It’s Wildcard week for countless Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers as we get set for Gameweek 13.

In a four-part series, we look at the stand-out FPL transfer targets for the four remaining Gameweeks before the World Cup break. So even if you’re not on a Wildcard, these are the names that you’ll be considering over the next month.

To do this, we’ll be turning to the underlying Opta player/team stats, the Season Ticker and Rate My Team’s projected points for assistance. All of these tools can be found by subscribers in our Premium Members Area, where you can still get a full year’s membership for £2.49 a month (billed annually).

These numbers are all correct as of Thursday afternoon, before the day’s Gameweek 12 fixtures have taken place.

SEASON TICKER

When ranking our customisable Season Ticker by attack, Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United sit ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Eagles face three of the six leakiest defences for chances conceded – Everton, Southampton and Nottingham Forest – whilst the Toffees are against three of the four sides to have let in at least 20 goals.

Meanwhile, West Ham have a trio of attractive home matches that surround a trip to Manchester United.

Blank Gameweek 12 caused pain for FPL managers with regards to Man City and Arsenal assets, with some of us having to either sell an asset or two from the title-challenging pair or proceed with an incomplete XI. The good news for ‘holders’ is that both sides have an excellent fixture run before the World Cup that follows Gameweek 16.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) is owned by almost 25% of managers but they’ll need a plan for Fulham’s final two pre-break outings.

Written before Aston Villa, Fulham, Leeds United and Leicester City conclude Gameweek 12, it’s no surprise to see that Man City and Arsenal have the best rates of expected goals (xG).

By combining this with their excellent starts to the season and the aforementioned strong fixtures, many managers will deem it essential to quickly get back to triple-ups of both sides. Erling Haaland (£12.1m) and Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) are already highly-owned, although the million or so who’ve recently sold the Brazilian could return if they can’t fit both Phil Foden (£8.3m) and Bukayo Saka (£7.9m) into midfield.

The teams whose xG rates have improved most over their last six matches are Bournemouth, Newcastle United and West Ham but, in fairness, their improved fixture runs have been a huge factor. Fulham and Crystal Palace are at the other end with a rate reduction.

What’s interesting about the Hammers is that their improvement precedes those imminent home clashes versus Bournemouth, Palace and Leeds. And which team is most underperforming, in relation to their season’s xG? Yep, West Ham (-6.05). Whether it’s profligacy or bad luck, they now at least have Gianluca Scamacca (£6.8m) to turn to, one of just two Hammers who is ‘overachieving’ their xG tally in 2022/23.

The biggest xG-to-goals overperformers, by some distance, are Man City (+11.26), although they still are number one in both separate categories. Arsenal (+4.59) and Spurs (+4.30) follow. That’s something we’ve come to expect and isn’t exactly rocket science: the better teams with the better players tend to convert more chances that come their way and exceed expectations.

I have Antony in my WC, plan was to bench him this week and have him ahead of GW14-16 but I am tempted to play him. Chelsea haven't done too well at Stamford Bridge against ManUtd in the past few years and it looks like they can be got at down their left side looking at some of the highlights from yesterday and it was similar against Villa (although part of that was down to Cucurella's poor performance in the first half at LCB). Thoughts? How did Chelsea look for anyone that watched yesterday's game?

I’d be tempted to do that but with Kulusevski and bench this week, depending on Conte comments.

I just think there are so many better midfielders in that price bracket.

Fair thought. I just don't really trust Spurs after their abject display last night, don't fancy banking on a player that's still not fit yet either, done that before and hasn't worked out well. I'm definitely going with Antony though, just about whether to play him or not

        1. Qaiss
          • 10 Years

Antony is a punt, as is Kulusevski, if you feel Antony will do well, get him. Going with your gut in FPL on a punt and then it paying off is a great feeling.

Yeah Spurs were woeful last night but Kulu definitely helps their attack. Bournemouth, Liverpool and Leeds are very good fixtures for them I think.

I'm still looking at bringing Kane in for the Liverpool and Leeds games, agree that they could be good, foregoing him now means I can get Nunez and Firmino (if we get early news he starts) or Robbo. Kulu could be an option then instead though. Little worried about their performances in the games against the top 4/6 though, last season they did so well but it's been the opposite so far this year

I like Antony as an option but can't really fit him in with Saka, Martinelli, Foden and Bowen in my squad, alongside Andreas who I can't bring myself to part with.

What does the rest of your wildcard team look like atm?

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

At the minute it's this and I doubt it'll change bar one player:

        Raya (Ward)
        Cancelo Trippier Robbo (Saliba Neco)
        Saka Foden Martinelli Eze (Antony)
        Haaland Nunez Toney

I know it's top heavy and will result in benching headaches, but it's for 4 weeks, I'm happy to take that risk and look for the upside. The one spot I'm unsure of is Eze, I may just retain Pereira instead. But given he's looked so good every time I've seen him of late I think I'll keep Eze. I'll move out Robbo after 2 GWs, plan is to give myself the chance to bring in Kane in GW15 if I think it's worth it, although right now I'm doubting it.

          Nice. I'm looking like this:

          Kepa - Ward
          Cancelo - Trippier - Saliba - Gomez - Dalot
          Saka - Martinelli - Bowen - Foden - Andreas
          Haaland - Toney - Kane

Tempted to downgrade Bowen so I can upgrade Toney to Darwin, maybe to Rashford. So still a few decisions to be made.

Nice team, I see you're going to have a few tough choices too! I was initially considering a Nunez - Firmino double-up but I'm convinced Firmino has to get a rest this weekend so I'm happy to hold Toney. I know he's on 4ycs but I figure with the headaches I'll have, if he picks one up then I'll have plenty of cover, same for Saliba

Yeah I reckon the draft is far from final yet! Possible changes include White instead of Saliba to avoid the YC issue and then Kepa out for Fabianski or Raya. Think I'm pretty set on the rest.

According to RMT, going Zaha to Saka is a really negligible points difference until the world cup, so second guessing that plan now.

    What would you prioritize?

    Pope (Iversen)

VVD / Cancelo / Trippier (Kilman, Neco)

Zaha / Bowen / Martinelli / Salah (Andreas)

    Mitro / Haaland / Solanke

                That may well be so.

But the fact Zaha has three away can't be held against him in comparison to Saka, when the same applies.

Just pointing that out for poster, who appeared swayed by it.

I got Zaha last week only and he returned luckily.
But on WC, I found getting Saka most logical and didn't find anyone but Zaha to sacrifice unfortunately.
I think Saka will score more than Zaha in the next 4 GWs, which is the basis of the decision.
I liked Zaha's fixtures but as a team Arsenal looks better, and 3x looks like the way to go.

Thinking of WC from top to bottom & spreading the Salah funds?

Gives 3 Pool, City, Ars & a benching headache but lots of depth?

    Team,

    Raya, Ward
    Dier, Trippier, Saliba, Cancelo, Neco
    Bowen, Salah, Martineli, Trossard, Andreas
    Firmino, Toney, Hauland

    1.0.

    WC,

    Alisson, Ward
    Cancelo, Trippier, Saliba, Gomez, Justin
    Foden, Bowen, Zaha, Saka, Martineli
    Hauland, Darwin, Toney

It seems a waste having to bench one of that front 8 every week. Downgrade Bowen or Toney and get TAA maybe

Anyone considering united defence? Dalot or shaw? Dalot with 4 yellows worries me but way more attacking.

Dalot if they continue & he clears the ban

"Any player earning five bookings from their side's first 19 Premier League matches will serve a one-match ban in the same competition. Yellow cards are not carried over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup. Players who accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches, up to and including their team's 32nd fixture, will serve a two-match suspension in the competition."

    a) Toney + Trossard + Doherty to Solanke + Foden + TAA
    b) Trossard + Doherty to Foden + Gabriel/VVD

Have exact money for Zaha > Foden this week, should I press the button?

    current team this week is:

    Pope:
    Castagne / Trippier / Romero
    Zaha / Barnes / Salah / Martinelli
    Kane / Mitrovic / Haaland

    Iversen / Guehi / williams / Andreas

Alternative probably involves a hit to do Pope > Kepa & Barnes > Foden....

Problem i have with a 4 man midfield is i don't know who to have as 4th man under 9mish

Saka, Foden and Martinelli are locks, but then its just punting on the 4th

    Bowen,Maddison, Zaha, Mount, Almiron etc

None really fill me with confidence

Its why im sticking with 3 man midfield for now

Salah, Foden and Martinelli although i would like Saka

Do wildcard transfers mess up FPL statistics or is that not a thing?

Seeing as United have Chelsea and West Ham in the next two, and Rashford isn't nailed for 90 mins, probably 2 l reckon.

Doing this on Wildcard... Welcome thoughts....

    Raya (Ward)
    Gabriel, Cancelo, Van Dijk
    Zaha, Foden, Rashford, Saka
    Haaland (c), Toney, Darwin

    Bench: Andreas, Trippier, Neco W

    Thoughts? 0.8m in bank

Might as well upgrade Williams to Guehi for 0.3m more seeing as you have 0.8m ITB.

Good shout... Any other areas of improvement?

I don't have any Spurs cover as u can see, no Salah, no Chelsea.... But can't have it all I guess

My bad, l would actually buy Andersen at 4.5m instead.

He has one less yellow card than Guehi and his expected goals and assists are significantly better.

Other than that, l think you're good to go. I really like your team.

Great thanks... How about the keeper situation...

I could upgrade Ward to Kepa perhaps and rotate with Raya... Or go for different keeper strategy altogether if I stick with Neco W

That's a tough one. Chelsea have 4 mediocre fixtures in a row but they have kept 3 clean sheets in a row.

If you really fancy Kepa, l would probably just replace Raya.

Arsenal XI: Turner, Tierney, Gabriel, Holding, Tomiyasu, Xhaka, Sambi Lokonga, Vieira, Nketiah, Saka, Jesus.

Subs: Ramsdale, Hein, White, Saliba, Cedric, Partey, Girjan, Nelson, Edwards, Odegaard, Martinelli, Marquinhos.

I'd wait until the game's finished. It'll be foolhardy to do it now and then watch him get subbed on and then injured.

Neither are anywhere near a price change, so you might as well wait until tomorrow evening.

I am still on the fence re Salah and would appreciate your thoughts.
Is he really worth bringing in? Can Saka do just as well? 1FT 3.5 mib

Can do -4 Kane to Mitro and Trossard to Salah…
    Or just Trossard to Saka?

    Ramsdale
    Guehi - Trippier - Cancelo - Castagne
    Foden- Martinelli - Zaha
    Kane - Solanke - Haaland
Bench: Ward - Andreas - Trossard - Dunk

Personally I'd much rather do Trossard to Saka for free than getting Salah in for -4 involving selling Kane.

I'm on WC and still tempted to go Kane over Salah.

Thanks Jaril. I am leaning more and more into just getting Saka.
Salah may score this week, but so may Saka. For now Salah is still not worth his cost I don't think.

Scraping the barrel a bit here, but for the coming week would you rather start…

    A) Anderson - Everton Away
    B) Justin - Wolves Away

Leaning Justin, but I’d imagine there’s not much in it.
