Pep Guardiola has provided an injury update on Erling Haaland (£12.2m) ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Sevilla.

The Norway international was substituted at half-time of Manchester City’s goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund last week and subsequently missed Gameweek 14.

In Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Guardiola told reporters Haaland is not fit to face Sevilla but could return for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Fulham.

“Tomorrow he’s not available. He feels better compared to Saturday and Sunday but not 100 per cent and we don’t want to take the risk, it makes no sense.

Hopefully he will be back for Fulham. Every day he is feeling better” – Pep Guardiola on Erling Haaland

Guardiola was also asked why Phil Foden (£8.5m) had not started Man City’s past two league matches.

“No reason. When I take a decision it is not for a particular reason.” – Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden

On tomorrow’s match, Guardiola hinted at rotation with qualification already secured.

“We want to win the game. It is a moment to continue practicing things. I will have to see [who starts]. The players who didn’t play regularly are going to play for sure. Let me see the training session and tomorrow you will see it [the team].” – Pep Guardiola

Kalvin Phillips (shoulder) and Kyle Walker (groin) remain out, meanwhile.

“He is doing partial sessions with the team. Contact not yet but we will see his evolution. We know how important the World Cup is but we can’t use a player who is not ready. My feeling now is it will be tight [to make the World Cup]. There are many things involved. I don’t think [he will play] against Fulham and even Brentford – it will be similar games to Leicester. We need players in the best condition.” – Pep Guardiola on Kalvin Phillips

“I’m impressed with how quick his recovery is, but still a bit late compared to Kalvin [Phillips]” – Pep Guardiola on Kyle Walker

We’ll next get to hear from Pep Guardiola on Friday in his pre-match press conference to preview Fulham.

However, it’s worth noting City’s game against Fulham kicks off 90 minutes after the FPL Gameweek 15 deadline, so there is a chance we might get an early line-up leak, as we did last weekend.

Foden on bench third game in a row? Difficult to believe but can see it happening. Why the cold treatment?

    RP:

UCL team GTG? Have I overlooked any dubious starters here (besides Guerreiro & Mayer who I wonttake a hit for)? My UCL research has been pretty halfhearted this year so any help is welcome even if it seems obvious.

    Adan (Meyer)
Perisic / Porro / Mechele / Sergio Gomez / (Guerreiro)
    Vini / Son (C1) / Gonçalves / Kvara / Kudus
    Mbappé (C2) / Leão / Rafa Silva

Who would be your third City attacker besides Haaland and KDB? Considering Alvarez if Foden continues to be sidelined.

Grealish, Foden, Silva, Gundogan, Mahrez, Alvarez -- difficult to predict who will play at least 150 minutes in the next two. I should buy Rodri for the peace of mind.

          Thanks.

I sold Cancelo instead of KDB so that I could play 3 City attackers for these two games. Plan was to buy Foden but it is not a good time to buy him. Too much uncertainty regarding his game time.

    I think what I take from this is;

    1. Captain = KDB/Wilson/Rashford
    2. VC = KDB/Wilson/Rashford
    3. Haaland = Hold but don't captain
    4. Foden = Dependent on tomorrow, but I'll likely hold and start, taking the 1 point if necessary.

Ah you didn't trigger it last week?

It's a tough one mate, I'd definitely have provisions to get him in on GW16 though. Kane being the perfect placeholder.

Nope, I think my team was good enough last week, although I chose the wrong transfer of Haaland > Kane instead of Jesus or selling another player.

I think maybe Wilson is a good placeholder, since he has a good GW15 fixture. Or maybe I just go with Haaland with 5 strong mids in case he doesn't play, and so I have the GW16 BB option as well.

Think I would just get Haaland unless you think you can outscore him by spreading the money around. If keeping funds itb then WC/BB doesn't really seem to offer any advantage over the rest of us re: Haaland

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

Money ITB would be to bring Haaland in GW16. That's would be a decent advantage over people who would either sell him or see him on the bench this week, as I would have a replacement in Wilson or someone else and can plan the rest of the team accordingly.

    3. RogDog_jimmy
      • 5 Years

don't get him and don't bring him back until world cup break.

      that's what i'd do.

but i'm also guessing you can save the money easily only doing a 2 week squad. so that could make sense.

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

Thanks. I'll be making a transfer in GW16 anyway, so assuming there're no injuries to deal with, buying Haaland seems like it might be the obvious, most rewarding transfer that week, if I don't have him. It's not actually that easy to spread the money and make a lot of potential points back, I don't think.

    Hi All,
First post and need a bit of help.
Just done my 1ft for Toney to Wilson

    Ward,
    Dunk, Trippier, Robbo
    Almiron, Zaha, Foden, Martinelli, Rashford
    Wilson, Haaland

    Subs; Ramsdale, Mitro, TAA, Saliba

Debating on an -8 point hit for Zaha & Foden to KDB and Trossard. Just wondering whether with two games to go before WC whether it's worth it, as took an 8-point hit a couple of game weeks back and it didn't pay off (Robbo & TAA) as WC played a while back. Can just about make it now with nothing left in the bank before any further rises/falls. Help appreciated.

    Thanks

Sensible advice. Of course a hit does occasionally immediately bring home the goodies, but with a free wild card in 2 weeks time there is desperate need to make them unless you have fewer than 11 players.

Thanks both. Yeah even though very tempting to ship both Foden and Zaha, probably most sensible not to take hits at this stage with WC break so close.

I fully approve of the Foden - KDB switch as mentioned above. I tend to be quite liberal with hits, but a -4 for captaincy is something I'd do without question. A -8 with only 2 weeks to pay off does sound a lot. But if we evaluate each move on its own merits, Toney - Wilson is an obvious yes. So the only quesionable one for me is Zaha - Trossard, but I think even that has a good chance of paying off in itself so it seems a perfectly viable enabling move. Its a risk, but I would go for it

      1. General_Patton
        • 3 Years

Cheers. I've only took one 8 point hit so far and promised myself it would be the last as don't want to get into the habit. Knowing my luck KDB will play tomorrow and get crocked if I make the move now. May just wait and see if he plays tomorrow and decide.

Because Pep is being so obtuse about benching him. Feels like he's being taught a lesson / punished again. Its all speculative really - he might start, he might not. But in that case I'd prefer KDB, especially for captaincy if Haaland is a doubt

He'll probably drop before the weekend, so it's max £0.3m (assuming purchased at £11.5m). If he is benched at the weekend you've got to expect that to drop some more so may not be massive. Yet the upside could be.

How's this for a WC team?

    Pickford (Ward)
    Cancelo, Trippier, Martínez (Cresswell, Saliba)
    KDB, Trossard, Martinelli, Almirón (Andreas)
    Haaland, Kane, Wilson

Unlikely KDB will play in Champs league tomorrow then?
Need to get him in for Salah for a hit but need to do it before any more price rises/drops on either.

If you want to be a good manager, you shouldn't bother with having reasons for your decisions. That's why people bought Solanke, and that's working out all right.

I'm personally going to buy lots of players for the sole reason of having no reason. Just can't figure out how to choose who...

Good managers always make reasoned decisions.
Those that get luck on the side do well.
        Those that don"nt don"nt , it's that simple

      I haven't actually mocked this up on my team so I don't know if it's possible with team val, but I'd do something like this;

      DDG/Fabianski + Ward
      Cancelo + Zouma + Dalot + Trippier + Castagne/White
      Saka/Martinelli + Rashford + Almiron + Trossard + Benrahma
      Haaland + Wilson + Jesus

It needs some element of tweaking but I reckon you could make some great gains over the next two GWs.

Help us out please with the decisions below.

    Who to bench next GW:-

    A) Gabriel (Chelsea away)
    B) Mitro (City away)

Best Zaha replacement over next few weeks.

    1) Trossard
    2) Rashford
    3) Almiron (will have a newcastle triple up, with Wilson and Trippier)

Foden generally trolls us, but this season has been special. Started the first 10 odd GWs, scored plenty of points, and just when you thought you'd found a goldmine, boom. Benched for 2 GWs in a row and possibly this weekend as well.

All things considered, this lad might actually be a bigger troll than Zaha.

Started the season with trollden, sold before he hauled.
Gw13 brought him back, just rid of him again

He's the 3 best attacking option for one of the best teams on Earth.

      There will be some bumps.
You either take the risk or don't.

It's a 38 game season and he will feature 80 to 90% of the time as he already has.
