In-form Newcastle United take on Chelsea in the first of two Saturday evening matches in the Premier League.

Kick-off on Tyneside is at 17:30 GMT.

There is some notable team news on either side at St James’ Park.

Callum Wilson is only fit enough for substitute duty after suffering from an illness over the last fortnight, so Chris Wood starts up top for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe’s other alteration sees Joelinton, who returns from suspension, replace Jacob Murphy in the front three.

The big omission in the Chelsea squad is Raheem Sterling, who has reportedly been suffering from migraines this week and was unable to travel.

Graham Potter has made five changes from his Gameweek 15 line-up, with Sterling among the names to make way.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kai Havertz, Marc Cucurella and Thiago Silva all drop to the bench as Mateo Kovacic, Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher, Kalidou Koulibaly and Lewis Hall are brought into the starting line-up.

The teenage defender Hall impressed in the EFL Cup on Wednesday and makes his first-ever league appearance this evening.

GAMEWEEK 16 LINE-UPS

Probably more likely Chelsea dropping him and letting him use a migraine as an excuse before the WC so his confidence isn’t knocked!

Why does Davies have the goal and no kane assist. Thought it was supposed to be a OG and Davies assist or kane would get another assist there?

As a West Ham fan, I usually always play players who are against us, that way if we win and my FPL assets do badly I'm happy. If we lose and my FPL assets do, I'm still relatively happy.

This week, I benched Ward and we lost... Big flop from me there.

Did anyone catch the game? Very rare for a 'keeper to save a penalty and not get 3 BAPs, so guessing Ward did a lot to keep us out, or were we poor overall?

Ward is just the Goat. Would be a sin to not give him all the bonus.

I was at the match. We were incredibly poor. Peppered ward with tonnes of low % shots. Never looked like scoring.

Again? I'm happy to keep Moyes, especially after looking into his history at Everton. With that being said what was wrong today, who didn't pull their weight in your opinion?

The team look lethargic but it's all on Moysey. Same clueless play every week. Needs to go.

A good European run is masking a pretty terrible season.

I said this when he was appointed to Man U, there's a reason that Fergie chose him as his successor, when we used to talk about teams breaking into the "big six" it was always Everton and he did it with next to no budget. Moyes second full season in charge of Everton they finished 17th, then they finished 4th, 11th, 6th, 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th following the year where he made large changes to the team. I have faith, I want him to stay, but will see what happens.

I am confused about the constant Keher pick at RB, bit of an insult to Johnson & Coufal.

It's a different game these days. Not that he isn't a good manager but his the football he plays isn't getting the most out of squad.

There's no point adding quality if we're not going to try and kick on.

Agreed in that sense. I was at the Bournemouth game and I was screaming at Johnson to push up on the right. If Johnson and Cresswell hold the width, it's PERFECT for Benrahma/Bowen to dart inbetween the CB/WBs

It's not rare for a keeper to lose 3 baps if they save a penalty but conceded the 2 goals scored in the match.

      1. Zenith UK
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 4 months ago

It actually is, I've remembered times where 'keepers have conceded 2,3,4 and still got 3 BAPs and people would always complain how OP the penalty save BAPs were, but happy to see it changed, just was curious about the game.

Don't think so but not saying you're wrong either! More likely to get 3 baps if the penalty save is a game changer.

We were absolutely woeful, can’t remember a single save that wasn’t straight forward for Ward.

One of the main issues is our fullbacks, Cress doesn’t have the legs to track & his positional awareness is long gone. Was evident in Europe last season & again in the league now. Kehrer is young and struggling to adapt to the pace of the Prem, means we get absolutely blitzed down the wings every match.

Moyes will go after the World Cup break, the owners can’t afford relegation and that’s a real possibility given current form.

You reckon they'll get rid? I don't think they well with "Europe" going well. I have faith he can turn it around but I do agree we need a proper LB and Johnson needs a run of games at RB again if we're not going to sign a natural RB (I feel Keher would be better suited at CB).

Frustrating to hear though. Was Scamacca invisible all game again, and how was Bowen today?

I'm really concerned about what has happened to Cucurella, I know he hasn't been the back at LCB, but to get benched for an academy prospect tonight against a dangerous and inform Newcastle screams concern, especially for a player who was so vital under the SAME manager at both their previous club... Why is he not LWB tonight? Glad I ditched when I did!
