The first Premier League match of 2023 takes place in north London, where Tottenham Hotspur host Aston Villa in the 14:00 GMT kick-off.

Antonio Conte’s side can overtake Manchester United into fourth place with a win, whilst Unai Emery’s men will remain 12th regardless.

Sticking with their usual system, the hosts have made four changes to the line-up which drew at Brentford, welcoming back World Cup finalists Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) alongside Ben Davies (£4.9m) and Bryan Gil (£5.0m).

The latter means there is no Dejan Kulusevski (£8.0m) at all, due to a slight muscle injury that will be scanned tomorrow. Eric Dier (£5.2m), Japhet Tanganga (£3.9m) and Fraser Forster (£3.9m) also make way.

Ivan Perisic (£5.5m) and Matt Doherty (£4.6m) continue at wing-back but Conte will be frustrated to have nine substitutes that are mostly defenders.

Aston Villa are unchanged from the 3-1 defeat against Liverpool, meaning Emiliano Martinez (£4.9m) and Matty Cash (£4.6m) only make the bench.

It’s another start up front for bargain midfielder Leon Bailey (£4.5m), edging out Danny Ings (£6.5m) and Philippe Coutinho (£6.6m).

GAMEWEEK 18 LINE-UPS

Tottenham XI: Lloris; Romero, Lenglet, Davies; Doherty, Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Perisic; Bryan, Kane, Son

Subs: Forster, Dier, Tanganga, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Emerson Royal, Spence, Sarr, Skipp

Aston Villa XI: Olsen; Young, Konsa, Mings, Digne; McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Kamara, Buendia; Bailey, Watkins

Subs: Martinez, Cash, Bednarek, Augustinsson, Chambers, Sanson, Coutinho, Ings, Archer

My biggest difference compared to the GW17 template, trio of Saka/Martinelli/Nketiah, have been on fire for the past two gameweeks. 15, 18 and 14 points are great scores in general... but Odegaard has been on another level lately. 53 points in 5 games is just ridiculous. Arsenal are blessed to have a player and captain like him. I really hope he's here to stay for a very long time.

He's such a good player. I'm sure if you can seal a UCL place this season that would help tie him down long term.

Looking at Arsenals recruitment over the past few seasons there really had been very few duds, Pepe being the only real example.

Mitrovic, despite his penalty miss, is more consistent. But maybe wait and see how Chelsea do against Forest later

The way my FPL season is going:

    A) Opponent has Cancelo who stays on bench. He gets the Bueno points.
    B) I have Foden. Comes on. Bueno points stay on bench.

Has happened once in every three gameweeks.

What a frustrating season till now.

Feel your pain. I went with Cancelo, James, Kulu and Wilson on unlimited transfers as wanted “nailed” players in my team.

When it comes to City, its best to avoid players like Foden who is always a rotation risk

I've gone from being around 450k OR in GW9 to being over 2.1m currently. Foden came on to block Pereira, White's 1pt coming in for Dalot and now Patterson's 1pt likely coming in for Cash. I feel your pain, nearly every week has been like this, I've seen a fair few rivals getting in anything from 5pts up to 13/14pts in the last couple of weeks and before the break, just really sucking any fun out of the game

    Pope Ward
    Shaw Robbo Trips Cancelo White
    Martinelli KDB Almiron Rashford Andreas
    Martial Haaland Darwin

    0.1 ITB
    1 FT

I'm undecided on how to approach the double gameweek. I think Fulham and Chelsea might be a bit of a trap with player rotations, yellow cards, etc. Looking at the fixtures I'm not sure I like any of the attacking options on either team. With Robbo on a knock I'm thinking a Chelsea defender might be the best long term bet as I want to hold on Cancelo. Only other option I can see is Mitro. Obviously I'll wait to see the game tonight to decide on Chelsea.

    My choices are:
    A) Robbo > Cucu
    B) Robbo > Thiago
    C) Martial > Mitro
    D) Darwin > Mitro
    E) Other?

    Roll the transfer or G2G?

    Kepa
    Trippier - Shaw - White
    Salah - Martinelli - Rashford - Odegaard
    Haaland (C) - Darwin - Martial

    Ederson - Almiron - Botman - James

I think Arsenal will roll Newcastle, Newcastle are good but they're not at the level of the Gunners.

    1. Darwin > Mitro
    2. Salah > Andreas

Are my other two considerations, however rolling gives me greater flexibility for upcoming doubles.

Well suck me sideways! Wc differentials Kulusevski and Wilson instead of Almiron and Martial went swimmingly. I just love it when a gut feeling pays off! And it’s not like you have to keep them for weeks instead of transferring out injured players. Amazing hobby this! Que the Coke jingle!

Are Fulham players are a trap? Leicester away who conceded one goal in six before the World Cup then a rejuvenated Chelsea, who most people will have defenders for anyway.
