Suspensions

In this regular article, we look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are a caution away from a one-match ban and reveal who is now in the clear.

We also round up which FPL assets are already suspended ahead of Gameweek 21.

A reminder: punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Most clubs have now passed that point following the weekend’s action, with only five sides yet to contest their 19th fixture of 2022/23:

Team19th fixture falls in…
ArsenalGameweek 21
BrightonGameweek 21
LeedsGameweek 21
LiverpoolGameweek 21
Man CityGameweek 20 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

A total of eight players are still at risk of an imminent suspension, the most notable of whom is the foursome from Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka (£8.1m), William Saliba (£5.3m), Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) and Gabriel Jesus (£7.9m) all have double-digit ownerships in FPL, although in the latter’s case, ‘dead’ Fantasy teams will account for his 28.5% ownership figure. Jesus is currently injured, so likely won’t feature in Gameweek 21 anyway.

No-one from Liverpool or Manchester City is a risk, despite last season’s top two having not contested their 19th fixture of 2022/23 yet.

Everyone else not listed here on four bookings, including Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) and Harry Kane (£11.7m), has avoided the threat of a one-match ban.

As mentioned above, the next target to avoid for FPL assets is 10 yellow cards by their side’s 32nd league fixture.

Ruben Neves (£5.4m) is the most-booked Premier League player on seven cautions.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

FPL review: Felix sent off on Chelsea debut

Casemiro (£4.9m) picked up his fifth booking of the season in the midweek draw with Crystal Palace, so will miss Manchester United’s Gameweek 21 clash with Arsenal.

Only one other Premier League player is currently sidelined – and it isn’t for yellow card accumulation.

Chelsea new boy Joao Felix (£7.5m) was dismissed for serious foul play in Thursday’s loss to Fulham, so is now one match into a three-game ban.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

Is a move to triple Newcastle Def and bringing in Odegaard for Almiron a good idea?

Form always changes quickly, no? The peculiar thing right now is how its last season's top 4 that are all looking rubbish, and the budget options outperforming premiums. Its a fun shakeup

Woke up still feeling hurt and disappointed by the Saka assist removal.

Not to mention the lack of emotional from members on here.

I'm halfway through my stern letter to FPL towers. Currently 5489 words.

😆 Keep it going. 10,000 word minimum.

You know how salty matchdays are. I'll gladly concede it should have been an assist even as a non-owner

I do sympathise but at the time my immediate thought was he crossed it diagonally backwards slightly, the defender deflected it across the goal where Lloris bundled it in to his own net for an own goal. As neither the first two were on target it’s the defender who has assisted. It’s clear though without Saka’s involvement there wouldn’t have been a goal so he definitely created the opportunity directly.

Agreed, don't understand all of this fuss about it, FPL rules are clear. And let's face it if it was Adu-Adjei cross and assist removed nobody would say a word but it's 20% owned Saka so...

Anybody going for a strong bench this season due to the good cheap players and woeful premiums?

I mean even if Salah and Son etc find their form its not like the likes of Odegaard, Saka, Rashford will suddenly lose theirs.

The only problem is leaving points on the bench but at least you have them in your squad to begin with

    Kepa Ward
    Trippier Shaw White Beuno Patterson
    KDB Rashford Martinelli Odegaard Almiron
    Haaland Kane Mitrovic

    1ft
    2m itb

Patterson to Schar sound like a good idea?

Looking easier and easier to prepare a BB without needing a WC beforehand. Time to clear out the filler (Ward and Patterson) for decent cheap options who will double.

No. Benching dilemmas, hard enough for me to pick players with less variables! Some decent cheaper bench options. Hoping it'll give me a better 11. Plus a bit of extra cash to help avoiding more hits.

Hmm, unpleasant line up for this week, some tough fixtures for my boys. The plan was to bring in White for Cucu but the Utd fixture is tricky, any ideas on moves this week or sit tight?

    Kepa (Ward)
Trip / Shaw / Cucu (Lewis / Bueno)
Ode / Rash / KDB / Almiron (Pereira)
    Mitro / Haaland / Kane

Not that many appealing defensive fixtures this week so either get White, or save the FT and be better prepared for the next double announcement.

Will wait and see Wednesday and Thursday games. City need a bit more variety than plan Haaland. 4 goals and 3 yellow cards in last 6 games. Opposition are smarter to him than in his early season goalfests.

Similar dilemma re: Brighton mids, I think. All good underlying numbers; both teams scoring well, and fairly even chance of any one asset being involved. Saka on pens, yes, but also more expensive?

Hard choice. Think they'll all be on a level come end of season.

Not a very helpful response, really haha.

I'm looking at Nketiah as third Arsenal and Forward choice as I want to cover a lot of teams in midfield and don't want to worry about picking the wrong one each week. Just gonna stick with Martinelli.

Think I'm moving Mitrovic to Nketiah for their double, Odegaard has been tempting for a while but hard to free up a midfield spot, so many options. Nketiah could have had 2 goals yesterday if not for a slightly better touch

Would you do any transfer or save it?

    Kepa, Ward
    Trippier, Shaw, Gabriel, Doherty, Cancelo
    Rashford, Odegaard, Martinelli, Almiron, Kulusevski
    Haaland, Kane, Wilson

Would be nice to bring in a better keeper, another newcastle def, Mitoma/March..
But is it worth a transfer, or better to save and get 2ft following gw?

Yeah it's one of those transfers i'm thinking about doing, if any.

Martinez has been a disaster move for me. I took him in straight after the WC as i didnt have the budget to get to Shaw and the other defenders werent nailed on. Unfortunately, he hasnt reclaimed his place in the team.

similar here. i wasn't straight after but a week or two. couldn't afford shaw and thought he would come back in. cameo's of 2 mins and 1 minute has been the returns.

Would you do any of the following moves this gw?
    A) Almiron to March
    B) Almiron to Odegaard
    C) Roll
I want Odegaard surely from next gw but not sure about March

Understandable folks have itchy fingers with Miggy but Newcastle have good upcoming fixtures. I would save FT

Yes I know… and Palace are bad actually but I love Brighton mids are massive differentials and also need Odegaard asap for the double

1 FT 1.2 ITB... Cucu seems like the urgent one to get rid.. Should I get another newcastle defender or brighton?

    Kepa Ward
    Cucu Trippier White Bueno RLewis
    KDB Rash Martinelli Almiron Kulu
    Darwin Mitro Haaland

Newcastle better defence. Just owning Trippier isn't enough to increase OR

thanks, Schar the best out of the lot or Botman?

Botman - I don't think Schar has enough upside to warrant the extra 0.5m

    Kepa Ward
    Trippier Botman Shaw Cucurella Bueno
    Kdb Rashford Almiron Martinelli Andreas
    Kane Toney Haaland

    1FT 2ITB

    What to fix here ?

Sort out Cucurella to start ahead of Shaw or save FT

Midfield options suddenly feel poor and bad value.

    Current midfield;

    KDB Martinelli Rashford Almiron Andreas

Thinking of doing Marti and Andreas --> March and Odegaard

The only "poor and bad value" player is KDB! You need to alter expectations with the other cheaper midfielders imo. They are at that price point for a reason.

Not sure I would upgrade Andrea to march unless u play with a midfield 5? Also I would keep Martinelli

I have the same midfield. Almiron to Odegaard sets me up for the DGW23 but I’d really want at least one Brighton mid so idk where I fit him there

Mount>Saka for free or roll transfer?
I wanna save but feel like mount just has to go

Mount plays a poor pool team and saka has utd. Save one more week imo

Saka is one yellow away from a ban, would be annoying if that happened. Also plays Utd next, that game has 0-0 all over it.

Anyone getting Bruno as well as rashford rather than doubling on Brighton or arsenal attack? Just feel Bruno will do well and could be a nice differential from gw22. Issue for me is that I couldn't afford another arsenal mid if I have bruno

Only if they double again in 22

Bruno was lucky to get that goal. Prefer arsenal and Brighton attackers over Bruno

He's playing great for United but not so much in FPL terms as he was when he first joined. I am not sure he provides enough value, although most of us do have some £ to spend.

      Ode Saka Mitoma Rashford xxxxx
      Haaland Kane xxxxx

Next GW looks like a low scoring one for this team but struggling find a transfer clearly worth it. Maybe it will be best so save and reassess?

    Kepa
    Trippier Shaw Martinez
    Salah Rashford Martinelli Mount
    Haaland Kane Mitrovic

Ward Andreas Bueno Patterson - 1 FT, 0.8M ITB

    A) Save
    B) Mount > Odegaard
    C) Mitrovic > Toney
    D) Salah > KDB

I think C or D move your team forward, even if it might not mean big points gains this week. Equally A - especially (as per my response to Malk below) you can then better spend any surplus from Salah sale.

B easily for me but you might want to wait a week and have 2 frees going into week 22 when we will have clearer picture around blanks/doubles

A'noon all. 1FT, 0.7 ITB. Any thoughts on this? Save FT?

    Kepa (Ward)
    Trips - Shaw - Stones
    Salah - KDB - Rashford - Almiron
    Haaland (c) - Mitro - Nketiah

    Subs - Andreas, White, Bueno

Will be looking to get in an arsenal mid for the double, pope for gk, maybe some brighton.

    Ta !

Downgrading Salah probably worthwhile, lot of money tied up in him. Guess you could roll and have 2FT to spend the money, but i'd be tempted to do Salah-> Brighton mid this week

OK, thanks. I only got Salah in a few weeks ago as was sure he would still score but looking poor at the moment.
