In this piece, I am sharing my thoughts on the FPL-relevant teams for a Gameweek 26 Wildcard. I am skipping Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers as I don’t believe them to be Fantasy-pertinent at the moment.

Arsenal

FPL Double Gameweek 23 Scout Picks: ...

The league leaders have no doubles or blanks till the end of the season but do have great fixtures in the short term, against Bournemouth, Fulham and Palace. They also have Southampton at home in Blank Gameweek 32.

I think holding Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) through the doubles is a viable strategy that may allow you to avoid the Free Hit in Gameweek 32. Gabriel Martinelli (£6.5m) v Martin Odegaard (£7.0m) in the short-term is a toss-up; I think Leandro Trossard (£6.6m) playing as a striker is definitely better for the Brazilian than Eddie Nketiah (£6.8m) but just in case I want to keep Odegaard and ditch Saka in 29, I prefer the Norwegian.

Aston Villa

Villa have no blanks to the end of the season and one double in Gameweek 29, which isn’t that great on paper but not that bad either. What is worth noting is that their fixture run is incredible: Palace, West Ham and Bournemouth before the double and Forest right after it. Ollie Watkins (£7.3m) is the only investible pick from there, in my opinion, with the defence conceding a huge number of big chances.

Brighton and Hove Albion

FPL review: Bueno benched, Tete terrific, "never" sub Mitoma

Brighton are going to be a big factor for the remainder of the season. They have two doubles that definitely need to be rescheduled, v Newcastle United (a) and Manchester United (H), and likely another one, v Manchester City (H), if they progress further in the FA Cup. The Newcastle game is likely to drop in outside of Gameweeks 34/37, especially if they progress in the FA Cup.

The obvious strategy would be to triple up on Brighton but with blanks in Gameweeks 28 and 32, it’s going to be difficult to hold three outfield players through that run. Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) can be considered, therefore, as he is easier to hide in those blank weeks than an outfielder.

I think Pervis Estupinan (£4.7m) needs to be in our teams, fitness pemitting. He has been playing a very attacking role of late and the upside is absolutely massive for the Ecuadorian. The midfield slots are trickier – I think Solly March (£5.1m) would be my first pick and it’s a toss-up between Kaoru Mitoma (£5.3m) and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m). The numbers for the Argentinian over the last two games where he has played as a no 10 are insane but he could be dropped deeper at any time by Roberto De Zerbi. I am currently leaning towards Mac Allister as it stands, as he is on penalties as well.

Brentford

Brentford will likely form the core of our Wildcard squads with two doubles over the next four Gameweeks and no blanks till the end of the season. It is worth noting though that their double in Gameweek 29 isn’t great at all, away to Brighton and away to Manchester United, especially for their defenders. Moving one defender on for the likes of Luke Shaw (£5.3m) in Gameweek 29 could be a viable option. Stats-wise, there is not much to separate Ben Mee (£5.0m) and Ethan Pinnock (£4.4m): both have had similar shots since the restart and you might as well save the £0.6m with Pinnock. Rico Henry (£4.5m) is an option but his attacking threat largely depends on Brentford playing a back five, which I think they are unlikely to do against the calibre of opposition over the short term.

Ivan Toney (£7.6m) is currently on eight yellow cards, and two more would see him pick up a two-game ban – so that’s one we need to monitor.

Chelsea

FPL review: Kepa hauls again but James misses out on clean sheet 2

Chelsea are a tricky one. The fixtures are excellent on paper, especially in Gameweeks 26 and 28 and the double in Gameweek 29 looks promising as well. They will, however, likely blank in Gameweek 32, depending on Manchester United’s progression in the FA Cup. I think Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.8m) is still a good pick – he racks up saves and bonus points – but I am less convinced on Reece James (£5.8m). He does not have the license to get forward as much as he did under Thomas Tuchel and if Chelsea do progress in the Champions League, minutes are always going to be a risk for the right-back.

Joao Felix (£7.6m) has looked promising but Chelsea do not inspire any confidence right now at all. If I see some glimpses over the next couple of weeks, I might consider Erling Haaland (£12.2m) to Felix in Gameweek 28 with a view to getting the Norwegian back in Gameweek 30. The very thought of that feels scary, though, with Haaland facing a leaky Liverpool at the Etihad in Gameweek 29.

It’s also worth mentioning that Chelsea’s double in either Gameweek 34 or 37 won’t be a great one as the Manchester United (a) fixture will be tagged on to either a trip to Arsenal or Manchester City.

Fulham

Fulham blank in Gameweek 28 and will blank in Gameweek 32 if they beat Man Utd in the FA Cup. The latter would seem unlikely at present, which would make their double in either Gameweek 34 or 37 not that great with Liverpool away. If they do progress, though, then Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) is someone we will need to buy in 33/34.

Leicester City

FPL review: Maddison's elite numbers, Spurs' injury woes 1

Leicester have a great double in Gameweek 29 but no blanks or doubles after. They have an excellent fixture run from Gameweeks 30-38, as well, with only Manchester City (a) in Gameweek 31 and Newcastle United (a) in Gameweek 37 the off-putting fixtures.

I still don’t trust Brendan Rodgers with Kelechi Iheanacho’s (£6.2m) game-time yet so I won’t be investing in the short term but he is very much a target I have in mind for Gameweek 29, given that the Foxes play Bournemouth right after. James Maddison (£8.1m) versus an Arsenal midfielder for Gameweek 26 is a consideration but I just trust Arsenal a bit more at the moment and he will likely come in for me in Gamweek 28 for a Brighton midfielder if he can prove his fitness over the next two weeks.

Liverpool

The Reds have a confirmed blank in Gameweek 28 but it is worth mentioning they have an excellent fixture in Blank Gameweek 32, at home to Forest. They are a team I likely will load up on if I do decide to Free Hit in Gameweek 32.

They will also have an attractive double later on in the season, with Fulham (H) to be added on to either Tottenham Hotspur (H) in Gameweek 34 or Villa (H) in Gameweek 37. I don’t think we are done with Liverpool yet.

Manchester City

FPL Gameweek 21 Scout Picks: ...

The reigning Champions blank in Gameweek 28 and will blank in Gameweek 32 if they beat Burnley in the FA Cup. They don’t have a double in Gameweek 29 but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Haaland outscoring all the Double Gameweekers when facing Liverpool at the Etihad.

There is a case to make a move in Gameweek 28 for someone who has three fixtures vs just one for Haaland but it’s a scary thought, as you will definitely want to buy the Norwegian back in Gameweek 30 for Southampton and you will lose one transfer and some team value as well. I still haven’t found someone that gives me that confidence yet.

Manchester United

We discussed Wildcard picks and chip strategies in detail on this week’s episode of the FPL Wire, it’s the longest and most comprehensive one we have done this season so I would highly recommend it.

It’s timestamped with the relevant sections so you can go straight to the team of your choice. Check it out here.

Thanks for reading and see you next week.

I think Trent or Shaw has to be moved on to someone that plays in 28 and doubles in 27 & 29

    A: Nketiah + Mahrez -> Toney + Martinelli for -4
    B: Nketiah + Aké -> Toney, Zinchenko

I already have Odegaard & Saka in my team which looks the following

    Kepa
    Aké, Shaw, Trippier, Botman, Tarkowski
    Mahrez, Saka, Odegaard, Salah, Mitoma
    Haaland, Nketiah, Darwin

    Really appreciate your help

      I'm going Saka and Martinelli.

Martinelli has looked better than Odegaard since Trossard started playing. And also looked better than Odegaard when Jesus was starting.

That's league's toughest defense has not won a PL game in the last 7.

I think Newcastle are a bit overrated tbh. I'm still going to have 2x defenders because they play in 28 but I'm not super high on them.

Can’t decide whether to wildcard or not with this lot. If I don’t wildcard now I can’t see when I would - especially if I want to BB in gw29.

    Kepa (Ward)
Shaw / White / Trippier (Tarks and Patterson)
Salah / Martinelli / Rashford / Almiron (Andreas)
    Haaland / Kane / Nkeitah

    Thoughts?

Alright I've made my plans till GW38 lol
    GW27: 6 doublers
    GW28: 10 players
    GW29: 12 doublers + Saka Haaland Zinchenko
GW31: 5 doublers (likely Brighton v Newcastle here)
    GW32: Free Hit
    GW34: 9 doublers + Raya Trippier
    GW37: 10 doublers + Trippier

Only 1 hit till the end if all goes according to plan.

Ben Crellin says he has info that Brighton v United moves to 34 so it's pretty clear WestHam face City then. Also believes Liverpool double will be in 34. Then Chelsea v United and Brighton v City goes to 37.

I only have FH and WC left. Not sure which to use in GW29. How about:

    GW26: Nketiah > Toney
    GW27: Mahrez > Newcastle
    GW28: Haaland + KDB > Kane + Maddison
    GW29: FH
GW34: WC (Triple Brighton, Man Utd, Man City - maybe a couple Liverpool)

    Iversen
    Trippier Gabriel Badiashile
    KDB Mahrez Rashford Odegaard March
    Haaland Felix

    Ward | Nketiah*, Patterson*, Perraud | 2FT. 3.8 ITB

Deulofail, I always thought that you're a good lad and that's why I'd like to help you. Go on, activate wildcard and try to save your season before it's too late. GW34 is so far away and you could make up so much ground in between, but only if you decide to react and change half of that team now. Patience isn't always the right answer.

You've been stubborn with Ward/Iversen combo for 7 months. Mabye it's time to move on. Then I would certainly sell Badiashile, Patterson, Perraud, Felix and Nketiah. De Bruyne and Mahrez are debatable because Man City are in the title race, but I definitely wouldn't stick with both of them for the foreseeable future.

          1. Deulofail
            • 10 Years
            3 years, 2 months ago

Thanks. Sorry for long post. I don't expect a reply. Just hashing out my thoughts.

As you can see, I plan to sell 4 of those players in the next 3 GWs. I think there's even an advantage to having the Man City mids when others are selling in prep for the future.

So that leaves Perraud, who has a DGW27...

And the rest who I feel are just people I might sell if I was WCing, but not reasons to WC in and of themselves.

Patterson could be back soon, giving me a player in GW28. If not, he's cheap, and that's the main point of him (as with the GKs).

One or both the Chelsea players, I would sell in GW30-33, but they both help in GW28 as well (theoretically, I may only play them another 3GWs, and they are good fixtures)

I don't really see the advantage of WCing now (as opposed to next week or saving it). I would even be wasting a FT to do that, personally.

I can see that bringing in DGWs has a big appeal, but I can do that with FTs and FH29 too.. Looking at WC teams, people's XIs aren't that much different to mine imo (City mids could advantage me, then Badiashile, otherwise about the same).

Half of the squad difference seems to be accounted for by decisions made with BB in mind. And those players are stuck with more expensive options for longer, including Brighton players before Spurs, Chelsea and Man City. But I don't have BB, so I'm trying to adopt a strategy that gives me a benefit

They also have fitness risks like Maddisson and Estupinan (who I can get when they are fit by FT or FH, respectively).

Mine is Renan Lodi lol. Didn’t want to double up on Brentford defence this week so looked into him and he has really nice GW26, BGW28 and DGW29 fixtures.

I had him in my WC25 team once Aurier got injured, all the way up until deadline, switched to Ming's at the last minute, glad i did, NFO look very bad defensively.

Hm but they have a very good record at home and I’ll have him for EVE - NEW - WOL/lee so I’m not too mad about it. Plus he’s so cheap and accommodates my transfer plans so I’m happy with him

I’m very tempted to sell Haaland as I lose no value on him and then buy back in 30

And I’m guessing have Watkins/Kane/Toney instead?
I’m planning a Haaland > Watkins in 28 so I guess you’re saving a transfer over me I just am afraid to miss his NEW and cry games but I don’t hate your idea

Yep currently that’s it and it saves a -4 down the line. Reason was because I won’t captain him until 30 and won’t lose value. Think Newcastle are going to strangle him tomorrow and he’ll stay quiet. They’ve conceded 7 goals all season when Bruno G has been on the pitch. Ahhh I’m just trying to justify it really 🙂 will think about it more today

I'm with you. There's no reason to go without Haaland until GW28 imo. You don't need money and anyone you buy to cover 28 you can just use an FT on in 28 anyway.

Because one of the games is Newcastle and because if you go with him, you’ll have to bench Odegaard in 27 or not have 2 Brighton midfielders

He has great games until GW29 and then you change him to Bruno in GW29.

          The 2nd Brighton mid.

Everyone has the same 4 players locked:
Saka Ode/Mart Rashford 1 BHA mid

I don't know. Probably not. Maddison is the template choice for a reason. I'm probably going to get Maddison instead just for GW26 if nothing else.

What I find crazy is just 7 days ago all the content creators were shouting triple up on Liverpool etc., DGW joy and excitement

Fast forward - lets WC and triple up on Brighton & Brentford because they are like man city quality right...

if you look at Brentford over the season, they do much poorly away from home. Guess if they are travelling for their DGW..

    Am I missing something?

    1. Camzy
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I tripled on Liverpool because I couldn't field XI.

Got Salah, TAA and Darwin and even after a -8 I'm up 12 points on the deal. DGWs are worth attacking.

      1. Maxroma22
        • 3 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

But now you gotta sell at least one of them. If not more.

Also are you up on Darwin transfer?

Thats the point I am making - theres waaay too much group think going around, poor players are being suggested to be bought because they play twice. Like Brighton played H against Fulham, 0 returns from March Mitoma etc. Fast forward 10 days - lets triple up Brighton?

Brighton have West Ham, DGW, blank, DGW and then sounds like another DGW potentially. You're not going to get any of their players? I think you've missed the point....not all DGW players are going to come through (Darwin) but you give yourself enough rolls of the dice and you're more likely to end up on the right side more often than not

For a lot of people doing Kane to Darwin enabled them to get TAA instead of an Everton defender. If that was the case then the move was a success even for a hit.

they've got to have an angle each week to get the engagement and they tend to fall in line with each other.

They'll be advocating similar FTs soon.

be a bit boring for them when they all have to say roll transfer in x week!

Brentford has 5 fixtures in the next 3 GWs. Many other teams only have 2. Raya one of the best GKs right now. You can bench your Brentford players (except Toney) after GW29.

      1. Maxroma22
        • 3 Years

I agree that having 1, 2 Brentford assets is the way to go. But to Wildcard and bring in all 3, including guys like Pinnock who had as many attacking returns as Kepa is a bit cuckoo

    4. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

I wasn't that enthused by Liverpool but TAA did a good job for me as a blank filler. Now you're looking at a horror run of: MUN bou [blank] mci che ARS. So they were never going to be long-term holds. BHA/BRE have good doubles - be a skeptic if you like but if you avoid them entirely you're likely to fall behind

    5. Deulofail
      • 10 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

Well yes, you mentioned the DGWs, but seemed to have missed the significance of them. Even though Liverpool players disappointed, it was still worth hits for many people. It's not crazy to make moves and get points. Same could be said for Brentford purchases over the course X GWs. You could be getting an extra 3 fixtures over the next 4 GWs. Even 4, 5 or 6 extra fixtures if you're selling a dud or rotation risk.

The 'content creators' hate seems to be as much as a sensationalist spoonfed bandwagon of hysteria as the content creator sensationalist spoonfed bandwagon of hysteria itself.

Ode's benefit over Mart is his nailedness. That said, since Trossard started up top Mart has been back to his best and, with Jesus returning, you expect that to continue.

I don't see Arteta changing his backline much, it's crunch time in the title race. If Zinchenko gets subbed here and there that could be a good thing once it's after 60 mins.

Raya or Kepa for WC keeper alongside Sanchez?

Really just need a keeper for bgw28 and BB29 mostly. Sanchez will be in goal for the many double gameweeks that Brighton have and will rotate with Raya or Kepa for the other games.

Will FH in 32 and happy to go into dgw27 with 5 starting from Brentford and Brighton
