League leaders Arsenal will appear just once in Double Gameweek 29 but it’s at home to relegation-threatened Leeds United.

This creates a difficult decision for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who want to maximise the potential of having a dozen teams play twice, many of whom intend to use their Bench Boost chip.

With the help of Hot Topics and some Pro Pundit opinion, let’s delve deeper into the debate.

FPL review: Goals for Martinelli, Salah, Saka + Odegaard 4

IN-FORM GUNNERS

With the more experienced Manchester City chasing them down, it would’ve been easy for Arsenal’s season to derail after a run of loss, draw, loss over Gameweeks 22 and 23.

Instead, it’s been six successive wins, with 19 goals and a renewed confidence that they’ll actually win this title. Mikel Arteta deserves great credit for that.

Conceding 15 goals since the World Cup has been bettered by seven teams and could become a concern when studying the number of shots on target they’ve allowed.

Just three home clean sheets have been kept this season, with nine on the road. In fact, they’ve conceded almost twice as often at the Emirates (17 v 9), which doesn’t bode well for the visit of Leeds.

INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS

Attacking assets continue to excel. This six-game winning streak has brought 12 goals and three assists from Bukayo Saka (£8.6m), Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) and Martin Odegaard (£6.9m).

They are three of this FPL season’s five top-scoring midfielders and, as shown in their sole 3-0 outing during Double Gameweek 27, some one-match players will still excel and outperform the doublers, so they can’t be completely discarded.

FIXTURES

It can even be argued that Arsenal’s one fixture is more appealing than several teams’ doubles. It’d certainly take a brave manager to bet against Saka after an 18-point haul or Martinelli’s run of six goals in six games.

However, those planning to Free Hit in Gameweek 32 may choose to downgrade their triple-up as part of a calculated risk, considering the trips to Liverpool and Man City.

FPL Gameweek 21: How many Arsenal attackers?

How have Leeds been looking defensively since Gracia took over? Not sure whether to play BB in GW29 with Odegaard and White.

I'd expect Arsenal to score at least 2 goals. Ode and White are fine to BB with imo.

Defensively maybe a drop better, but it’s not enough to stem the flow.

I'm not seeing much of a difference tbh, think we've just had a bit more luck in picking up some of the results that performances have (sort of) merited for a while. In terms of xGC, apart from the Southampton game (0.38), it doesn't make for particularly impressive reading: 1.46 (che), 1.89 (BHA), and a whopping 2.78 at Wolves

Agree, particularly since the interaction has actually got worse over the years. Remember when the Scoutcast featured questions asked in hot topics? Now it's questions asked in the Youtube chat. I get that it's to drive engagement towards Scout content from people who might not otherwise use the site, but it's a bit sad nonetheless.

I used to really enjoy the old Scoutcasts too, and agree the priority is to engage more with their followers / viewers online.

However, I feel the comments section on this site has improved again over the past few months and I love to see the regular posters who give up so much of their time to help others being referenced in the article.

I would also like to see in the closed season several "meet the manager" Scoutcasts with community members from here - the knowledge on here is often on a par if not superior to the "pro pundits"

I think we all know who they are and it'd be good to see them get more recognition for all the support they give others

I guess the nature of the way these comment page work, the real nuggets of information can get lost in some middle page of some irrelevant or uninteresting article. I have always wondered whether the +1 button should be put to better use to highlight really good bits of information from the community.

      1. notlob legin

Good point. I think after many years on here you get to know who to listen to. I remember a few seasons back someone was advocating Doherty (when at Wolves) - if i'm honest I'd never considered him - but following the post / advice I did some more research and he didn't leave my team to the end of the season.

Unfortunately though quite a few just answer random A or B questions before they post their question and don't put any real thought or justification into their answer. All they really want is their particular post answered.

I feel the +1 button should be monitored by FFS and some recognition / reward offered monthly for the most useful contributor - or something like that anyway.

Rambling over now from me - back to work!!!

        I

Yeah I agree. I always try to give a bit of justification. I find the thought process is more important than the suggestion and is often what swings me towards an option ahead of sheer volume of responses. Better to know someone likes a transfer I am considering because of their FPL potential and not just because they have good hair.

I guess issue with the +1 is that you need to distinguish between the humorous quips about something that just happened in the league, jokes and other nonsense. Its almost like you need to separately log a +1 for great advice

BB with Arsenal is fine, the bigger question is whether players dropping like flies prevents the BB. Haaland, Rashford question marks I'm mainly thinking of.

Wondering this too, I was going to have to sell Tark and Ward to bench boost anyway and now have Rashford and Botman flagged also.

    Thoughts, BB'ing this week, FH32 - 1FT, 5.9 ITB:

    Kepa* - Raya*
    Chilwell* - Trippier* - Zinchenko - Henry* - Botman*
    Saka - Rashford* - Odegaard - Mitoma* - March*
    Kane - Toney* - Watkins*

    A: Zinchenko to Shaw/Estupinan
    B: Odegaard to Harrison/Mac Allister
    C: Saka to Fernandes
    D: Zinchenko & Odegaard to Shaw & Harrison/Mac Allister (-4)
    E: Zinchenko & Saka to Shaw/Estupinan & Fernandes (-4)
    F: Zinchenko, Odegaard & Kane to Shaw/Estupinan, Fernandes & Isak (-8)
    G: Other

Personally, I’d be more inclined to move Henry than Zinc. His double is a terrible double. Your dilemma is a funny. At this point, I’d probably stick with the one I mentioned above. If you had 2FT, F isn’t crazy, but it’s hard to take a -8

I have the exact same team except Pope and Mac Allister instead of Kepa and March. My plan is:

So, United now say Rashford is a “concern” for the weekend. Who to captain if he is either a doubt or ruled out? A Brighton Mid? Bruno? A SGW player like Saka?

Cash 3 week injury very annoying for potential BB:

    Kepa,
    Chilwell, Trippier, Shaw
    Rashford, Mitoma, Saka, Maddison
    Toney, Watkins, Kane

    Bench: Steele, Cash*, Odegaard, Gabriel

Had planned to swap Ode and Gabriel out for a BB, but now thinking to hold for 2 FTs next week and get Haaland back in.
When is another time to BB? 34 with Brighton and Liverpool?

    A: Hold FT (no BB)
    B: Ode + Cash for Bruno + Estupinan (-4) + BB?
C: Cash for Estupinan + BB?

Your team is very well structured for a BB this week. Either B or C are totally legit strategies. Plus consider this:

      1) Steele may not keep his place until 34, if not, you will need to make a GK change
      2) the number of doubles is much more limited in 34.
      3) the SGW players you are starting are all high quality. You would be happy to have an arsenal player v Leeds coming off the bench
      4) after your BB, you can downgrade one more asset to bench fodder, which gives you tons of flexibility that you don’t have when you are trying to keep a full bench in advance of a DGW.
      5) nobody really knows Haaland’s status. It’s good to have a plan to get him back, but there isn’t a guarantee on his fitness.

    March Rashford Saka Martinelli Maddison
    Kane Haaland Toney

    Current transfer plan:

    29. Ode and Zinch to Bruno and Shaw (-4). Bench boost.
    30. Toney to Haaland
    31. Raya to Ederson
    32. Free Hit
    33. Saka and Kane to Salah and Greenwood (-4) (could postpone these moves to gw 34)
    34. Botman to TAA. 10 doublers plus Trippier

Injuries will of course impact it but looks good on paper.

    Thoughts?

Zink is on the chopping block for me, even with Rico’s slightly dodgy double and fixtures after.
Leeds can score, so could see that as a 3-1 to Arsenal. Could also see a 1-0 however which haves me hesitating.

      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Rico is benchable through the tougher fixtures, probably not the same for Zinchenko so a move to someone like Shaw, who has a middling double but good fixtures beyond makes sense.

Would you do Martinelli to Bruno for free? Will have enough cash to move Toney -> Haaland.

    Shaw* Trippier* Estu* Henry* Schär*
    Mitoma* March* Rashford*

Its one I am agonising over. If you can FH32 then you've got to think Bruno will outscore Martinelli over the next 4-6 weeks.

But at the same time, selling the guy who has scored 6 in 6, doesn't have a multitude of mid-week games and is playing for the title seems wrong.

          I think they’re decent options.

But just not the high ceiling punt the poster is looking for. Neither side likely to score more than 3 goals across the 2 games so realistic ceiling isn’t that high.

A - largely because 30 and 31 not looking too hot for Brighton. I'd probably look at a second Brighton mid around 33 when Arsenal's fixtures turn and Brighton's improve for the double

In the same boat mate here too, have Kepa and Sanchez and can’t make my mind up who to sell Sanchez for, don’t have FH left so Alisson is and option for me too

Ah that’s good then mate for you, I don’t have WC left either so need to give it more thought, would go for Fabianski if I knew he’s back

Previous article had some good suggestions for Keeper Combo. A and B are at risk if their manager's whims change again. C probably but becomes an expensive pairing to maintain, or books a future transfer.

You probably only need to bench Kepa in 34 and 37/38 so i'd say B is a slightly better option than A

DDG in isolation, but you might need the cash further down the line. It also blocks you from af trio of Shaw, Bruno, Rashford.

... I would go Steele over Iversen everyday, as it gives you a lot more fixtures until the end

But is Steele likely to play all these matches? Maby nothing to worry about in DGW 29, but who knows who from Sanchez and Steele will play DGW 34

What would you do here? 2 FTs, 5.2M ITB and planning to use my BB.

    DDG Raya
    Trippier Botman Chilwell Estupinan Henry
Rashford Mac Allister March Maddison Saka
    Havertz Toney Kane

I was thinking Saka & Toney > Fernandes & Isak. Planning to FH32 so not very concerned with losing Arsenal for DGWers. Toney > Isak would need to happen to be able to afford Havertz > Haaland in 30.

I don't rate those moves. Agree with the sentiment about Arsenal, but Saka is above that. The guy at the end of the article had some excellent things to say on that front.

I can see why Toney to Isak, but that could wait. You've got a decent BB and feels like you're looking for improvements that may not be there

Brighton double up is nice but 30 and 31 not too appealing for them. Too early for C.

It’s a flip of coin for this week really leaning Bruno for their fixture of Everton week 30 vs spurs for Brighton

    Kepa, Raya
    Trippier, Botman, Mee, Estupinan, Gabriel
    Rashford, Mitoma, Martinelli, Saka, Maddison
    Kane, Toney, Watkins

    2FT and uncertain on options

    a. Gabriel & Mee to Chilwell & Shaw
    b. Gabriel & Maddison to Shaw & Bruno

There are variations on B (Martinelli out instead of Maddison, Chilwell instead of Shaw) but all essentially mean a hit to get Haaland back in place of Watkins or Toney.

I'm not personally sold on Salah, but given you have him I would presume you are so stick with it.

I'd say just look to sort out Ward and roll

WC depends on your team, but sense is either this week or to take advantage of doubles in 34. FH probably most suits 32 as a lot of the blankers double in 34 so you can bring in and hold without worrying.

        Steele
        Shaw trip estipinan
        Rashford saka Maddison mitoma
        Kane Toney Watkins

        Forster. Martinelli. White. Pinnock

Part of me thinks I could do my best to navigate this ganeweek with my FT or -4???

Its a solid team - I am on a BB myself, but have 9 of your 11 and will likely have 10 of them by the deadline.

I'd probably roll that. Certainly doesn't need a WC or FH. Clearly that bench needs a bit of work but with a WC in hand you are pretty well placed to react if you get a few injuries

Yeah save your chips for now, you have a strong 11 already. Could FH in 32 since you have 5 blankers already (plus Haaland I assume), or in 34 (if, e.g. you only want Liverpool players for their DGW)

Hi team, would appreciate thoughts on using or saving my BB... no other chips available!

    Raya
    Chilwell, Mee, Tripps, Cash*
    Madison, Rash*, Mitoma
    Ferguson, Watkins, Toney
    (Ward* Zinc, Odegard, Saka)

With possibly 3 injured/out players and 3 singles - i'm now leaning towards the save?

How many FTs? Suppose its mostly guesswork with Rashford but most expect he'll be fine. That's still a really strong bench. Think I would replace Cash & Ward and go for the BB

      1. Matty172
        • 6 Years

Only the 1FT... guess a -4 wouldn't be too bad to remove Cash & Ward, potentially an extra one to get another doubler in for one of my Arsenal players! Thanks for the advice!
