In Double Gameweek 36, Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United meet Arsenal and Leeds United respectively, before facing off against each other at St James’ Park next Thursday.

As the only two teams playing twice, there is lots of interest in their assets, but which of their Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players have the best chance of hauling?

Here, we take a look at two weaknesses Brighton and Newcastle will be hoping to exploit in Double Gameweek 36.

ARSENAL: LEFT FLANK

Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.1m) is an excellent player who offers a lot offensively, but his hybrid role between midfield and left-back can sometimes see him get caught out of position.

You can see how he moves around the pitch in his touch heatmap below, from Gameweeks 32-35.

Above: Oleksandr Zinchenko’s touch heatmap Gameweeks 32-35

This weakness showed against Newcastle United last time out, when Zinchenko offered a lot on the ball but defensively, left Arsenal exposed, so it wasn’t necessarily surprising when he was taken off after an hour.

In that match, right winger Jacob Murphy (£4.2m) hit the post in the opening minutes and created some good chances, while in Gameweek 34, Zinchenko completely lost track of Noni Madueke (£5.4m) – another right-sided player – for Chelsea’s only goal.

He also got caught out of position for Southampton’s second goal in Gameweek 32, with William Gallas later saying “Defending is not his strength. One versus one is often a problem”.

Now, we’ve since found out Zinchenko will miss the remainder of the season, having picked up a calf problem last weekend. His replacement will, in all likelihood, be Kieran Tierney (£4.6m), who is more of a conventional left-back who tends to overlap his winger.

However, in his last league start against West Ham United in Gameweek 31, he was asked to try and replicate Zinchenko’s inverted role but didn’t look entirely comfortable. As you can see below, he often stepped inside, but in doing so, allowed Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m) – who netted the equaliser in the second half – to play with more freedom.

Above: Kieran Tierney’s touch heatmap v West Ham in Gameweek 31

If Tierney tucks into midfield against Brighton and the Seagulls transition quickly, the visitor’s right winger can take advantage. That would usually be Solly March (£5.3m), so it’s a shame he’s probably out, but in his absence, Facundo Buonanotte (£4.5m) and/or Julio Enciso (£4.6m) could step up.

The pair could even combine down Albion’s right if one is deployed as a no. 10, with Pascal Gross (£5.4m) in support from right-back if Joel Veltman (£4.6m) is ruled out.

Added to that, left-back Dan Burn (£4.5m) is generally regarded as the weakest link in Newcastle’s back four, who Brighton will be up against in the second part of their Gameweek 36 double-header.

It is, of course, difficult to predict how Roberto De Zerbi will line up, given that he often changes his system to exploit opposition weaknesses, but if he does hint at a start for Buonanotte/Enciso in Friday’s pre-match presser, as he has done before, they might just be worth a punt.

At this stage, we should probably remind ourselves that Arsenal and Newcastle are two of the best defences in the league. Even after a wobble, the Gunners have looked a lot more assured of late, with Jacob Kiwior (£4.0m) partnering Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) at the back, so these will undoubtedly be very difficult games for Brighton.

Really stuck this gw. It’s really really close in my mini league between 4 players.

    2FT 0.7 itb

I’m not convinced with A) because I don’t really want isak or Wilson for more than 1 gw and I’d be using up both my frees before the better double next week. If Newcastle blank it’s a real waste, there’s no guarantee isak out scores martinelli by much and it gives me a real benching headache.
    B) saves me a transfer and enables me to do anything I like next gw but no newcastle attack this gw.
    C) I’d like TAA and Stones out opens up the third city slot but is that wise before Everton?

    A) Solanke Ming’s -> isak/Wilson, bueno
    B) solanke -> Greenwood
    C) solanke, stones -> Greenwood taa

    Ederson
    Stones trippier estu
    Salah martinelli macA mitoma rash
    Haaland Kane

Thoughts on March & Grealish > MacAllister & Mahrez? (No hits)

You have good bench so I wouldnt do sideways move Mahrez -> Grealish. Mahrez might only play 1 or 2 games of the remaining season. Grealish more nailed

I think Marhrez plays this GW. He didn't play at all in Madrid.
But .... it's the pep roulette, so we will never know.
City has a double next week.

      Agreed on Mahrez.
But why MacA? I think getting Brighton players is a trap - its the temptation of the double GW and not logic when looking at the opponents.

Agreed. He’s been fortunate of late. Wouldn’t be surprised if he only gets 4 points across the DGW

they have 4 games when others have 2 and they are fighting for maybe even CL spot. Free scoring team. What else you want?

Correct on the scoring. But what if MacA doens't score and they lose against Arsenal, Newcastle and City? Then having most games is not an advantage and there could be better alternatives.

what is your better option for March? What if they blank? More minutes equals more chances not to blank

              You could have a point.
I would consider Eze, Willian or possibly a Newcastle asset if you can afford it.

If he doesn't score and loses vs Arsenal, Newcastle, and City, he's probably getting 8 points minimum from appearances in 36 and 37, vs 4 from others. Even the worst case scenario you mention is not terrible, before you even consider penalties etc.

    TAA Burn Stones Dalot

    2 FT, £0.0 ITB

    1) do a transfer for 37/38. If so, what?
    2) March > Willock
    3) March to McNeil
    4) March to Schlupp
    5) Burn a FT

I have similar save Mitoma for Ode, Mahrez for Grealish and Alvarez for Jota. I am benching Rash so I don’t think crazy. But in your case I think I would be concerned that Grealish and/or Jota might not start this week. Monitor team predictions but if I had to pick now, I’d bench Grealish.

I am between Rashford and Grealish and can't decide. 2g 3a in 10 for Rashford which isn't great and goals drying up a bit for ManUtd, but they might be a bit more refreshed for tomorrow having their first free midweek in months and the extra day off the players were given. Still, a hard call

Tough 1 but I’d go Grealish n hope he does nowt plus gets minimal gametime with Champs League. I’d play Mac as on pens n agree he’s been fortunate recently but could easily haul over 2 games imo. If Mac had 1 I’d bench him but he hasn’t

ATM I’m on Wilson but I’ll check Captain Sensible later before making a final decision. Either is good in my mind though. From what I’ve seen so far Wilson’s stats are slightly better, but may get less gametime plus obviously is a bit injury prone.

Best option, probably to be benched this week:
    A) Coufal to White
    B) Coufal to Stones
    C) Coufal to Schar (triple New def!)
    D) Coufal to Guehi
    E) Greenwood to Solanke
    F) Greenwood to Awoniyi/Johnson

If you are benching them this week get Stones in. If you'd start him then I think Schar is a great option. He's been unlucky not to have scored recently including a VARD goal.

I'm looking at getting another City player in myself but I wouldn't go for Stones. I don't think he plays both.

City defender doesn't have to be Stones. Whichever one that has a high chance of playing both games.

However I actually do think Stones starts both games at the moment. UCL final is on the 10th June so it shouldn't impact Pep's selection and they are still trying to win the league

Yeah fair enough. I'd def get a City defender in that plays both, its worth that transfer.

You could well be right about Stones too, we're all just taking wild stabs in the dark where Peps concerned. Good luck if you go for it!

It's the first game I'd be more worried about after the SF 2nd leg. Really all depends on if he plays v Everton I guess, he hasn't played 60+ mins more than 3 games in a row since his return from injury

Weds-Sun turnaround but like you said the game could go to ET. I expect Stones to be rested in the Everton game

That's where I am at the moment. I don't think there much difference in EV between City Def doubler and Isak/Trippier in 37. It would be nice to have some fun in 38 with 2FTs

Yeah 2 FTs in GW38 could be fun. Arsenal mids, Kane, mid/attacker for a team battling to stay up all could be options. 2FTs gives the option to play around with funds.

For what it's worth, I have Stones and am heavily contemplating moving him out this week with one FT and rolling the other so I can get KDB next week. I think all of the City backline are prone to rotation next week and I don't expect a clean sheet v Brighton, might not even expect one v Chelsea given they will likely target City on the break which will suit some of their players

Yeah I don't have Stones down as a start this weekend but I don't think you need to transfer him out (obviously team dependant)

Need to raise 0.1m to get Big Mac. Which route would you take?

    A) March + Watkins > Mac + Toney
    B) March + Watkins > Mac + Alvarez
    C) March + Watkins + Botman > Mac + Wilson + Lindelof (bench)

leeds will fly out the traps tomorrow, such a hard game to call. they could be picked off or overwhelm toons especially with that crowd behind them. i think even a draw is no good... have isak and tripps, now stuck on whether to get schar or wilson....

Hope they do, could be a goalfest. Even if they win I can't see them keeping a cleanie. Could be one of those mad end of season 5-3 games like we had last week.

They'd lost the crowd and if Newcastle score on 20 mins that could easily deflate them again.

Their defence didn't actually look too bad against city, the keeper makes a big difference. If Newcastle score in the first 10/20 I'd be very worried for Leeds as I think the flood gates will open

Leeds frustrated Newcastle at SJP by playing narrow and not playing out from the back. BFS will play this like this as well. So much of Newcastle's attacking threat is based on turning the ball over high up the pitch. If teams don't do that we can struggle to break teams down, hence so many draws. Isak and ASM (probably off the bench) could provide the quality to break Leeds down.

Given Gnonto's speed and height I worry about him against Burn. Can see Burn's "robust" defending giving away free kicks with Gnonto's head at Burn's elbow height. Then again Howe might start Targett for this one.

Would you say at least one for Wilson or isak is essential this gw? I'm tempted to save transfer and play Watkins v spurs or maybe transfer Watkins to Alvarez. My rival owns Wilson in ml by the way and I lead . Cheers.

    Play Dunk or Stones?

I was set on Dunk cos of DGW but not sure I'll even get 4 points.
As I have 2FT and FH for next week, other option rather than bench is to sell one of them .
Already have TAA, Trippier and Kilman

I'm not so sure tbh, I've seen a fair few teams around with people unwilling to shift forwards like Kane or who have other priorities (removing March, for example) that won't end up with either. I can see a lot of people going with Wilson simply because he has more pts in recent weeks, regardless of minutes or expected minutes

Got 2 fts and 0.4m itb. Thinking of using only one transfer this week and reassess GW37:

    Steele
    TAA Trippier Botman
    Salah Mahrez Rash Mitoma Mac
    Haaland Watkins

    Kepa, Shaw, Gabriel, Greenwood

    A) Watkins --> Isak
    B) Watkins --> Wilson
