Having missed Gameweek 36 thanks to a leg injury, Marcus Rashford was pictured back in training on Wednesday morning.

The full extent of his involvement is unknown but, in the featured clip above, he was sighted indulging in a spot of foot tennis with his Manchester United team-mates.

The Red Devils then confirmed his – and Scott McTominay‘s – return to training in an on-site article shortly afterwards.

Erik ten Hag’s side travel to Bournemouth on Saturday before entertaining Chelsea next Thursday, those two fixtures forming a ‘double’ in Gameweek 37.

The United boss should face the media to provide us with an update on Friday.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Elsewhere on the team news front, Eddie Howe talked to reporters on Wednesday morning ahead of Newcastle United’s Double Gameweek 36 clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Magpies boss confirmed that Sean Longstaff would still be absent with a foot injury but added that Jacob Murphy was his only other concern, the winger having remained an unused substitute at Leeds United because of a tight groin.

“I think we’re quite clear on the injury, it’s just how long it takes to heal.

“He made good progress yesterday so let’s see how he feels today. He won’t be involved in this game.” – Eddie Howe on Sean Longstaff

Matt Ritchie (knee), Emil Krafth (knee) and Jamaal Lascelles (calf) are out for the season.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Roberto De Zerbi also faced the media on Wednesday afternoon, saying that he expected to have the same squad available as he had at Arsenal.

Julio Enciso (knock) has been in training despite limping off on Sunday.

Joel Veltman (muscle) was also spotted on the grass but isn’t yet ready to return, while Solly March (hamstring), Adam Webster (unknown), Tariq Lamptey (knee), Jeremy Sarmiento (ankle), Adam Lallana (thigh) and Jakub Moder (knee) remain out.

Robert Sanchez, omitted from the squad at the Emirates, also won’t be considered for selection.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Nathan Ake (hamstring) is the only absentee for Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.

“Except Nathan, everyone is fit.” – Pep Guardiola

Gabriel Martinelli (knock) will reportedly miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. Two days ago, the Arsenal club doctor said the Brazilian was “sore” after his weekend withdrawal but added that he “should be OK”.

Hey guys. I’ve kept trying to use my bench boost but the injuries and rotation has ceased to end. Will be using it this week, but what transfers would you make? Grealish and now Kepa have become a problem. I have 1 Ft and willing to take hits. 2m in the bank.

Maybe wait to see what Lampard says in his Friday presser before committing to any Kepa transfer. A long shot but he might reveal that Mendy's run-out was a one-off, then you can concentrate on outfield changes.

      Moreno to Shaw maybe?

Roll the dice on Grealish. Wait for more info on Kepa/Mendy. Probably take a hit selling Kepa and a def or 2 defs (pending on Kepa update)

      I think Kepa plays.

So if you are not confident on Grealish swap him but that could be sideways to another Man City player.

Pick who doesn't start tonight out of Foden or Mahrez perhaps?

      Personally I prefer Gundogan.

Wilson or Isak night share pitch time but that might not be an issue, with lots of goal potential?

In theory yes, but have to think of the state of play around it. Going into the DGW on the back of a massive CL SF (after the first leg of which Grealish complained of leg cramps which he said he never has), and the league could be wrapped up in the first game, maybe even before it. There would have been rotation either way but definitely now. I'd expect one start in DGW and then again in GW38 for Grealish

Haha I sold him last gw can't understand why people kept him Ten Hag made it very clear - he was a major doubt. Plus Rashford has dipped in form a bit. The real points from Man United have been in defence.

      1. gart888

I kept him because I had a major benching headache. Even after benching him I still had Shaw on the bench.

Would have made no sense to sell him for that one GW.

Arsenal may be done but it doesn’t mean they won’t score in their two nice looking fixtures.
Would imagine they put a few in over their next two, and Odegaard is the form player for them recently.

Arsenal are supposedly interested in signing Cancelo

    1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

He's deemed surplus to requirements at City, of course we want them lol.
Tbf would be a massive upgrade on Ben White who is the weak link in the team (along with Ramsdale but he will develop rapidly due to the position/age profile).
BW utterly useless against pace and clever movement - Mitoma/Enciso and previously Grealish just ruin him. Fine for Carabao/lower league opp/backup but must be a position to improve.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

Will they want +£60m though? Wanted that from Bayern, to a direct rival I'd imagine they'd want more. Would White go back to CB you think? Might avoid needing to buy cover for Saliba

        1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
          • 5 Years
          2 years, 9 months ago

I think the fact that Bayern won't pay anywhere near that and the fact his bridges have been burned both ways at City means that 30m is more realistic, even for a rival. We picked up Trossard for cheap due to internal issues at Brighton and can imagine Cancelo being similar. If he was a disruptive influence before, Lord knows what he would be like in the City dressing room next season. I wouldn't like to see Tierney leave, but maybe a swap deal would be in order as I know City are interested in addition to Newcastle.

Would prefer White to become the new Maitland Niles really. Able to slot in in multiple positions when injuries pile up but no more than that. Arteta seems keen on at least one of the CBs at Real Sociedad so, considering Saliba and Gab are head and shoulders above the rest, cannot imagine White has a future at CB.

The only issue with going City deep this week, ie Toney & Martinelli > Alvarez & Grealish etc, is that you could be severely caught out if City win the league and rotate heavily in GW38 when you only have one FT left.

I'm starting to think two FT's could be very powerful in GW38. Maybe a mini-wildcard situation with a hit for three moves...?

    1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

Not sure a hit would pay off in final week.
Is there really a defender you can guarantee outscores e.g. Trippier by 4? A mid who beats e.g. Mitoma by 4? Isak by 4?
Don't fancy it although 2 FTs is required I agree there.

Just thinking about injuries, likely benchings etc. You don't want the likes of Mings and Bueno subbing in like I would have to cover two non-starters for example. Try and ensure a first XI that can score well and play first of all.

You think they rotate final week? If they play a strong 11 against Chelsea and rest them vs Brighton and Brentford then its 2 weeks between Chelsea game and cup final - feels a bit too long to be honest. I think biggest issue is that you probably going "city deep" for a double that doesn't give you a doubles worth of minutes

FA Cup final isn't until a week after GW38, CL final a week after that. Won't want his players to not have played a game for 10-14 days before those ties, I think GW38 will be a string team

        Yep

        Both Sunday's I think

        June 3rd and 10th.

Why is the FA Cup final on a Sunday tho?

Not sure, I know I read it was moved to an earlier KO due to policing worries but unsure on the day

            Yeah

They don't want people boozing till 5 pm and will probably ban alcohol on the train home.

Which will be nice for the unsuspecting few getting overwhelmed by Manchester fans on the way up north.

So Champions League is also Saturday night.

That makes sense and saved me checking the FA website!

That’s true. It’s DGW37 I’m most interested in. 180 mins of Bruno versus ????? Mins of KDB. That’s my concern

          Yep

120 mins of KDB if needed at Brighton is my best guess.

Possibly just the 90 mins at home.

Would you still take that over 180 mins of Bruno?

    Steele
    Shaw TAA Trippier
    Rashford Salah Bruno Grealish MacAllister
    Ferguson Håland

    Bench: Kepa, Isak, Botman, Henry.

I know it's too early but in order to get Bruno, would you rather get rid of:
    A) Grealish
    B) Wilson

    Leaning towards A...

    KEPA
    SHAW, ESTUPINAN, Trippier
    BRUNO, RASHFORD, MITOMA, MAC, Salah
    HAALAND, Isak

    Raya, Wilson, AKE, Mee
    Bank 0.5m, 1FT, no chips

Should do, if he stays in England. He hasn't had the injuries that Shearer had and no reason to think he'll start getting them now.

If tonight goes okay and they wrap it up in 90 mins, either way.

Do you think that KDB plays Sunday and then is benched for Brighton and starts against Brentford the following Sunday?

    Or sits out Chelsea?

He's arguably had his rest and Pep could play him through now.

Likely play Chelsea, bench Brighton, play Brentford.

I think if not too gruelling tonight, I see strong weak strong for the remaining three. Of course Pep could mix it up so that players play 2 of the 3, but you have to feel he will want a strong 11 vs Chelsea to seal the title in front of the home crowd and give him the option to manage his players

        I agree.

I think it will be tough tonight and an early Real Madrid goal would turn the heat up again.

    A. Grealish & Raya > Rashford & DDG (-4)
    B. Raya > DDG
    C. Chilwell > Shaw (and bench someone?!)

    Kepa/Raya
    Trippier TAA Dunk*
    Salah Grealish* Mitoma* Mac* Mahrez*
    Haaland* Wilson

    Botman Chilwell Greenwood

Assuming I keep Rash, which one sounds best from these?

    1. Watkins Grealish Botman to Alvarez Bruno Kiwior -4 (Benching Isak)
    2. Mitoma/Mac Watkins to Bruno Greenwood
    3. Trippier/Watkins Grealish to someone Bruno

    1. Atimis

Or keep Grealish and get second City mid for Mitoma/Mac?

I don't like the look of 1 simply because you're taking a hit and benching a player who could return nicely. Might put you 10-15 points down. With Alvarez feeling less certain of playing 180 than Grealish for me, I'd say high risk

Got to be 3 if you want Bruno. May have a different view following the Thursday game and it might be 2.
