FPL 2022/23 'sleeper' picks: David Raya

80.8% of the shots on target that Sam Johnstone (£4.4m) has faced this season have been saved by the Crystal Palace goalkeeper, the best save percentage among current first-choice picks between the posts. The budget custodian has registered three clean sheets, four save points and five bonus points in his seven matches under Roy Hodgson.

37 save points accumulated by David Raya (£4.8m) in 2022/23, the most that any goalkeeper has managed and the equivalent of nine extra clean sheets (and a bit to spare) in terms of FPL points. Raya is level with Ederson (£5.4m) for shut-outs this season (11 each) but the Manchester City man has picked up only eight save points in the current campaign, just one of which has arrived since the World Cup.

2.37 is the expected goal involvement (xGI) figure of Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) in his last six matches, which is still higher than any other FPL defender including an ‘inverting’ Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m). Trippier leads his positional peers for xGI over the whole season (12.00), too, although has only one goal and six orthodox assists to show for it.

5.4 minutes per baseline bonus point (BBPS) recorded by Victor Lindelof (£4.1m) this season, an average bettered only by Trippier and Alexander-Arnold (5.0 each) among current first-choice FPL defenders. Lindelof has gained a bonus point in three of the last four games in which Manchester United have kept a clean sheet with him in the starting XI.

48 consecutive shots taken by Fabian Schar (£5.1m) without success since his Gameweek 1 goal against Nottingham Forest. Three-quarters of them have been from inside the opposition area, with eight of them classed as ‘big chances’ by Opta.

Auto Draft 77

15 of Pervis Estupinan‘s (£4.8m) last 16 appearances have seen the attacking left-back register at least one shot. He has attempted eight efforts in the box in his last six matches alone, a total that no other defender can beat.

51.8 minutes per chance afforded to Matías Viña (£4.5m) this season, an average bettered only by Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro (£4.8m, 48.4) among current first-choice defenders. Viña has already scored twice for Bournemouth in just 394 minutes of game-time.

Chasing as we speak about 40pts in my ML, got 2 FT 2.2 ITB... thinking of Marti + Isak to Bruno + alvarez? He's got similar team to mine (he also has 2 FT and might go Bruno)..

    Me:
    Kepa Raya
    Shaw Tripp White Mings Veltman
    Salah Rash Mac Mito Marti
    Haaland Isak Wilson

    him:
    Ederson Steele
    Shaw Tripp Pinnock Mee Estu
    Salah Rash Grealish Mito Marti
    Haaland Isak Wilson

Roll FT? and probably take out Grealish and Alvarez next week.

Seen lots keen on Alvarez but I’m thinking play Isak over him?

    DDG
    Trippier, Estupinan, TAA
    Salah, Rashford*, Grealish, Mitoma, MacAlister
    Haaland, Isak/Alvarez
    Kepa, Botman, Henry

I think the keeness is the assumption he plays in place of KDB vs Chelsea and in place of Haaland vs Brighton and so should get a lot of minutes. Don't see that personally and agree that Isak vs Leicester could outscore Alvarez if he is limited to one game.

Thanks. I will see how Isak looks tonight first. Will see how Rashford is anyway as if he isn’t fit I need to play both,

Minutes the main issue so in effect you would be lucky if he had the same minutes as a 90 minute single gameweek player. Plus there is the the question of how switched on City will be when they have the title won. It could be laboured stuff.

Hey peeps - I have a dilemma. Do I Free Hit GW 37 or 38?
    Current team is:
    DDG
    Estupiñán / TAA/ Trippier
    Olise / Mitioma / Salah / Odegaard
    Isak / Wilson / Haaland

Subs: Ward / Martinelli / Kilman / Mee

    Perfect scenario for tonight.

Wilson misses a penalty, then gets in an argument with Estupinan, both get two straight red cards after 10min.

    Mitoma free-kick, Dunk scores. Twice

    Tripper free-kick, Isak scores. Twice
    Willock counter, Isak hattie.

    Bonus:
    Isak 3
    Dunk 2

Look at each hit on its own merits.

I think a -4 for Kepa to DDG would pay off if your back-up to a benched Kepa is a poor option (Iversen, Raya etc). But I can't think many other options would, and not with a sensible alternative in your team already

Because he concedes sloppy goals, doesn't really get saves or bonus points? One last game doesn't hide the prevailing trend before that. Also we've already seen Ortega come in and got to imagine it happens at least once more?

DDG really good potential - he's a wall at OT and Bournemouth not the toughest game and he'll play all 270 minutes of the rest of the campaign.

Yes. I am in same position as you in having 2 United and choosing between DDG and Bruno. I think Bruno edges it for higher points ceiling, DDG more certain of returns. Comes down to whether you compromise too much to get Bruno in.

Anything worth a -4 here? Trying to gain around 10/15 points in the last few weeks, so a differential would be nice but don't want to fall any further.

    DDG
    Trippier - Taa - Shaw
    Mitoma - Salah - Mac10 - Mahrez - Rashford
    Haaland (c) - Isak

    Steele - Botman - Watkins - Zinchenko

Presently on Kepa Raya, not great for 37/38. However I have 3 Man U, 3 Brighton and Ederson probably will be rested for at least 1 game

That could be gone by tonight. Not sure who he has in place of Grealish and Ederson, but I wouldn't back you.

Anyway, what I am saying is you need to probably take a risk and go differential a bit more.

Thoughts on Raya Grealish to DDG Mahrez?
Would you add Watkins to Alvarez -4?

    Kepa
    TAA/Shaw/Estu
    Salah/Grealish/Rash/Mitoma/Mac
    Haaland/Isak

    Raya/Watkins/Tripp/Botman

I don't really see the point of the sideways move of Grealish to Mahrez.

Wouldn't add the hit either because you probably bench someone you will regret benching

      1. Atimis
        • 9 Years

Feel Mahrez plays more minutes and seems to be more effective recently. Yeah, not sure about the hit as playing Isak seems good.

Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't. Maybe he does and scores less. Minefield. I am probably sticking on the basis that Grealish + 1FT to use elsewhere (or next week) is likely better

I have the exact funds and 2FTs to do martinelli + isak > Bruno + awoniyi. But the critical press conferences are tomorrow and I have got rashford who is still a risk.

Yeah I want awoniyi for final day back up gw38. Forest may well be in need of goals on the last day and you never know who could get benched. I want someone who should be starting AND might even get returns.

For me, I think the maths works even if Kepa plays all 3 games for Chelsea as DDG should easily keep at least 1 more CS than him. Add the risk factor with Kepa and the fact that DDG is probably going to score more than any keeper over the next couple of weeks I probably would.

No easy way for me to bring Bruno in without a -4 to lose Salah or a -8 otherwise so seems the next best option.

Absolutely agree. Think I've already typed a similar argument somewhere else on this page. Bruno is better, but not if there are penalties for it. I can do Martinelli to Bruno in 1FT so a pretty clear move for me.

If you are playing BB and it gives you 15 reasonably assured starters (noting Alvarez is not an assured starter) then go for it. Will limit the returns but should profit overall assuming the other 12 are decent.

I'd take the punt on A personally. Wouldn't do B as Trippier might return one of these days

      C. It’s a good team and it’s not worth taking a -4 for the sake of it.
