Why are people so sure Stones is nailed in this city team? See him in most of the teams

Considering Gvardiol is going to be joking city soon, isn’t their best back 4 going to be Walker Gvardiol Dias Ake/Cancelo?

Sure he is a solid pick to start with but not guaranteed to hold his spot down if all players are fit right?

    1. Holmes
      • 12 Years

Could start as RB over Walker or over Gvardiol until he settles. Most of the City players face rotation, so you just need to be prepared for it

I dont think you have watched or followed City for a while? Stones has played and flourished in midfield the past season and this pre season. Gvardiol not really an issue, one could even argue his arrival strenghtens Stones case assuming he increases citys clean sheet potential.

"Sure he is a solid pick to start with but not guaranteed to hold his spot down if all players are fit right?"

Good thing we're given a FT every gameweek.

Right now, he looks like a DMF on the best team in the world that also gets clean sheet points, and has nice early fixtures. Seems a risk worth taking to me.

Keep up with the play lad, Gvardiol is a left sided player LB LCB, doesn't threaten Stones minutes

Ah, but Pep is more canny than that. Both are ball-carrying defenders. Pep could start Gvardiol with Dias, Ake and Akanji in some games. He has a wealth of options, and each defender could be rested in a dozen PL matches this season.

    RMT

    Onana (Areola)
    Gabriel Stones Chilwell Estupinan (4.0)
    Salah Saka Bruno Mitoma (4.5)
    Haaland Alvarez (Simms)
    0.5 ITB

    My thoughts:
    A) The only real punt here is Alvarez, but with Jesus and Nkunku injured there isn't really anyone I like more than him to start the season with.
    B) If Nketiah starts the community shield then he's in for Alvarez and Mitoma gets upgraded to Foden while still having 0.5 ITB.
    C) Does the bench look too thin? I could upgrade my 4.0 defender or 4.5 mid to a more playable 12th player, but I like the idea of having 0.5 ITB to start so I'm not immediately priced out of hot players.

Exactly the same as mine, except I have Johnstone instead of your Pickford (not a fan of their defence). I’m thinking Salah captain gw2 and Pedro for the first three games and then re-evaluate and see if there are any must-have forwards. If there are any surfacing (Watkins/Nkunku/Darwin etc) then it’s an easy two transfers: Salah to any other in-form midfielder in the game and Pedro up to my chosen forward.

I’ve heard it said that jam is nice on a Yorkshire pudding. I can’t reconcile with this … I cannot accept it. I could eat a bucket of Yorkshire puds every day, drizzled in gravy. But you come at my puds with any sort of jam and you’ll be wearing my bucket … and I’m not a violent man. I even sense your carrying marmalade as you eye my puds, I’ll call the cops.

I question a perp about this, as we all love cranberries with a savoury. The sick sod was adamant it’s with a sweet jam, if memory serves, it was strawberry but I was enraged at this point, so could have been raspberry. I’m all for people being able to make their own choices in life but this is just trying to shock.

                Assume nothing.
                Never go against your gut.
Everyone is potentially under opposition control.
Do not look back; you are never completely alone.
Go with the flow, blend in.
Vary your pattern and stay within your cover.
Lull them into a sense of complacency.

Thoughts on this Salah draft with what I see as only 1 weak link in Tarkowski.

    Onana
    Tarkowski Gabriel Chilwell Estu
    Saka Rashfrod Mitoma Salah
Haaland Nkunku (can be changed if not fit GW1)
    4.0 Beyer Nakamba 4.5FWD

I don't mind it, although not sure 4-4-2 will be a good formation this year. Lots of good midfield options out there.

I was on a very similar draft (But with Jesus and Bruno instead of Nkunku and Rashford), but have since decided to downgrade the 2nd forward to upgrade the 4th defender.

Definitely A, then D if you want to risk Pep Roulette, C if you want to have a punt on an unknown quantity in the PL, and B if you want to go dull.

Foden the most fun but frustrating. Mbuemo the most sensible. Mitoma feels a bit maybe he won’t maybe he will. His returns really dried up towards the end of last season. Mbuemo for me.

    4. Ahsieuwbb

D and C. Both slight risks given city rotation and Diaby new to the league, but I think the upsides are much higher.

Mitoma has high potential too, but there’s rotation risk at Brighton too. Mbuemo could do well, but I doubt Brentford will be as good this year.

So my main uncertainties are about defence now. Gk, mid and fwd sorted.

    Currently it’s

    Gabriel Estupinan Ake Baldock

with Colwill on the bench for Gw1.

I’d be curious to hear any better suggestions using the same £££. I’d go Akanji if I knew he was more nailed?

True, but anyone can be ill last minute or get injured in a warm up. If you're going with rotation risks (Foden, Tross), then you need a couple of bench options. Plenty of good nailed 6.5 mids.

Good benches are overrated early doors. Even if they don't start Foden and Trossard could easily come on for the last 30 or 40mins ( now they're adding extra time) against tired legs and score more than most starters. Pickford and Ake would worry me more in this team

    1. Piggs Boson
      • 14 Years

I think he'd be a great signing. Sounds like he'll be relatively cheap too.

I think he'd provide more depth to the midfield, particularly Casemiro's position when he's serving suspensions.

I'm not sure he'd be a regular starter. Maybe he'll play in the big games alongside Casemiro with Bruno pushed out to the RW, like we saw with Mainoo against Madrid.

      1. Andy_Social

Casemiro get so many red cards. He'll be a regular backup, but will prove himself fully next season. Shame for Mainoo really, and Liverpool which is the club that really needed him now.

Very similar to my team except i got Onana, a 4.5 def instead of Stones, and Alvarez instead of Wissa.

I'm not really convinced by Stones at 5.5, it seems too much, Man City defensive coverage is good on paper but in reality the Man City defenders on their own don't score well over the season and are beaten by the likes of Botman and Mings.

      Onana (Areola)

      Botman, Gabriel, Estupian (Mings, Baldock)

      Rashford, Eze, Salah, Mitoma, Saka
