Hi Neale - aren't the Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton penalty takers in the wrong boxes?

For me week 3 seems an obvious early wildcard week

If not then there are no real fixtures turns till maybe week 9.

Week 3 has the following advantages

    - Spurs and Chelsea have excellent fixtures for 3-4 weeks

    - City require a triple up (Ederson, Alvarez Haaland)

    - Arsenal and United have ok but not great fixtures which could allow getting away with only 1-2 assets

    - Can get Trippier in for his fixtures from week 4/5 onwards

    - Liverpool had poor fixtures so can be avoided, ditto Brighton for a few weeks.

    1. If you are happy to potentially go 20/30 weeks until your next WC, then go for it. I've deliberately early WCed once (the Fodence year) and it was a disaster, but that's a very small sample size.

      - Can get a couple of their assets with free transfers.

      - City triple up is viable but certainly not required.

      - Arsenal and United have FUL and NFO respectively in GW3. Wouldn't want to be Wildcarding out their players.

      - Trippier can wait.

      - Most started without Liverpool players and if you did you can just change them to the Chelsea/Spurs players you want with your free transfers.

        To counter

Its not possible to get 4- 6 spurs + Chelsea assets with FT for that fixture run

Arsenal (Martinelli/ Defenders) seem likely to do some rotation now with the squad size

United dont have great attacking defenders and Bruno for me is not necessary

Trippier i agree can wait, hence the getting on WC and playing a different defender for 2 weeks.

Honestly I think the idea "City require a triple up" is a big trap. None of the defenders starting GW1 are nailed. None of the mids bar KDB really appeal to me, and even he seems to be less nailed than ever. Ederson is a horrible choice.

I am looking at WC5, although its not locked in given that it was largely all template players who returned this week (incl 9/11 of my starters) so maybe I can manage the fixture swings with FTs, we'll see

Ederson and Alvarez (due to KDB + Sales) are close to locked i believe for the next few weeks at least.

I think there is an edge their that the majority are not seeing yet

Hmm ok I don't really trust Alvarez's nailedness yet & Ederson is useless for save pts so I don't think I'd ever go there

    Hi Skonto,

Appreciate the post. This might sound a bit silly or tedious, but is there any way you can split the corners into left/right/in-swing/out-swing? Just I see Saka has four, Odegaard three and Martinelli one, but it would be interesting to know is Saka the primary corner taker or was it they were all on the left and he was an in-swinger and three were on the right and Odegaard was the in-swinger? Did Martinelli then take a corner when one of Saka/Odegaard was substituted off. Just as an example.

Might be a lot to ask, but ya never know!

Hey Zenith! Great suggestion, that. The data available in the Members Area is unfortunately just a cumulative total. I know we have Short Corners/Shots from Crossed Corners as Custom Stats Table options, but not much else.

I'll TopMarx (an expert on these things) if we've got any unused feeds coming through from Opta which could be harnassed for such a thing. I suspect not but you never know!

What did you think of Bournemouth defensively? I really like the sound of Iraola's tactics & think they could improve a lot this season, but that aggressive press does sound vulnerable for fixtures like LIV (A)

            • 16 Years

I think it takes longer to build a solid defensive set up than it takes to get a buzz around the attack. In time I think Bournemouth will be ok, but I can see goals at both ends for a month or so at least.

I actually thought they looked pretty decent, better than I expected. Kabore dealt really well with Mitoma. Few errors started to creep in late in the 2nd half but I'm not judging them too harshly yet; BHA have done this (4+ xG) to a lot of teams

Doesn't it make better sense to make a move now than GW3 when almost all top teams have good fixtures, like I'd want Maddison & Chilwell for akanji & maybe Martinelli but will be tough to do with Arsenal at home to fulham? Otherwise I can downgrade salah post Bournemouth when they're away at Newcastle & upgrade akanji?

A broadstroke policy of no hits or rolling transfers is clearly not optimal. However, making changes to players who are not injured or otherwise have game time concerns after a sample size of one GW is also not optimal.

Think he offers great value , particularly with his minutes.

There are however many other great midfield options, plus with JWP potentially stealing pens, plus his fixtures are pretty terrible…now would be the time if it was to be done.

        Chelsea
        Brighton
        Liverpool
        City

All in the next 5! Doesn’t get harder than that.

Those are fair points. But still, you already knew that when you bring him to your GW1 squad. And he did perform! But yes, looking to the fixtures and given so many options offering good value, I can see your point.

You’re right, I did know that. I wanted the differential for at least GW1. I even captained him this week expecting even bigger returns.

Planned on holding him on the bench for a few weeks until Luton is in the middle of those fixtures, but keen to capitalise on price rises.

Diaz, Diaby and others have peaked my interest. Bowen had a decent record against top teams, especially Chelsea & Liverpol but just seems like a sensible sell if no other burning issues.

Surely saving FT outweighs 0.1m price drop especially when the player coming in doesn't actually affect your starting 11

Martinelli owners a bit worried about him? Thought he was really wide and didn't manage a single shot which is surprising for him.

Wee bit concerned. Slightly isolated on the left with no support or link up play from Havertz/Rice (LCM) or Nketiah staying central

It’s GW1. I don't expect teams or players to be at 100% yet. He was fine and I expect him to be better in upcoming kind fixtures.

Sure, I'm just giving my opinion on the game. Arteta will change the setup depending on opponents e.g. Martinelli will have more involvement with Trossard LCM and Havertz CF as they will link up play and leave space in the centre for Martinelli to attack

Of course. I'm not even considering selling him until GW4 at the earliest, was just wondering how others felt about his performance is all.

I own Marti and am happy with him. I was toying going with Odegaard and if I had, I'd be a little concerned about him. As I'd feared, Havertz's presence causes him to stay a little deeper.

Odegaard had and created a few chances even in this different set-up. I'm not worried about him; he'll come good soon. If he scores that chance (https://youtu.be/4FzPIvzA3qc?t=478) at the end, we'd be looking at 9 points.

Yup, I'm looking to offload him or Foden for Diaz and then Maddison for the next gw. He is too wide, never shoots and that's how he always looks with Nketiah.

Can't conclude much from one game. Arsenal set up differently against a Forest bus and were attacking mostly through the right, so he hardly saw the ball.

Not thrilled to see Nketiah start tbh (probably will keep him wider, without the central spaces that Jesus would have opened up for him) but we got the assist at least. Hoping to see Trossard up top next game but no thoughts of selling yet

    Gabriel , Osula -- > 4M Def + Jao Pedro for -4 ?

Well, wasn't certain about Jao Pedro before 1 GW, but as I see he is a real bargain for 5,5M. I want him in my team so thinking about -4 before his price rises.

    MY TEAM 4-4-2 :

    - PICKORD ( Turner )
    - GABRIEL - SALIBA - CHILWELL - ESTU ( Baldock)
    - SALAH - BRUNO - EZE - SAKA ( Chukwyemeka )
    - HALAND - WATKINS ( Osula )

It was one thing people wanting to knee jerk out players that blanked but past couple of days I've read messages from owners of players that returned like Martinelli & Watkins wanting to get rid

Fpl especially in these weeks and less so later is about longterm bets of returns

People are always going to take risks to move funds around and potentially see reasons to move any player

Watkins and Martinelli are in that discussion (rightly or wrongly) due to cheaper alternatives in other sides which would give cash to invest elsehere + the potential for more minutes if Martinelli becomes benched

Exactly as you say though. It’s about long term bets. So surely they were aware of these cheaper options prior to the start of the season? There weren’t really any surprises in terms of who hauled were there?

whats worse is we may have upset him and his camp and he might now drag his feet and hope chelsea come back in for him.

What I dont get is why arent they looking beyond the prem, surely there are good dms across europe that could be brought in that are better than paying 65 or whatever for a 19year old that isnt even a pure DM

The worst thing for Liverpool (fans) is that even if the club raises their offer, Lavia could still end up at Stamford Bridge. I don't know what they were waiting for or how they dared to go into the season without a pure number 6.

They've been unlucky. They were trying to build with limited funds, had a plan in place then two players bog off to the desert without warning.

They got £55m for 2 players with 0 legs between them - that’s hardly unlucky. Their issue is their recruitment team have fell off a cliff since Edwards left.

            • 13 Years

The timing was unlucky. If Hendo and Fab had bogged off a few weeks earlier, the club could have met Saints' asking price and had him integrated into the squad in good time.

That's not to dispute your last comment though, and I'd add the further concern that Klopp's tactics are looking shonky even granted the problems over the #6 spot.

Has there been any news on James and Chilwell ?

James looked to have picked up an injury and Chilly went off early but could have just been to save his legs as opposed to a knock

I think the article earlier today said James was "tired." Chilwell came off on 90 minutes give or take so wouldn't read anything into that

Wingback is the most energy-intensive position and in GW1 players are not at 100% yet. Poch was clear he took them off cos they were exhausted and delaying could lead to injury,

I did set up my squad to be stable long-term, but I have a programme to do 1FT for GWs 2-5 then 2FT GW5. None of it fixed.

If people have stable squads and no transfers planned, there's always a 4.0 GK or 4.5 defender to reshuffle.

Unless you're going to get priced out of a move you're desperate to make or get injury news then I wouldn't make a transfer now. Much more useful to have 2. A few minor fixture swings after GW3 so that's when you can probably optimise your team a bit. You also never know when a legit injury is going to hit.
