There's no one that can match Douglas Luiz. His style is impetuous, his defense is impregnable, and he’s just ferocious. He wants your heart! He wants to eat your children! Praise be to Allah!

Fear is the greatest obstacle to learning. But fear is your best friend. Fear is like fire. If you learn to control it, you let it work for you. If you don’t learn to control it, it’ll destroy you and everything around you. Like a snowball on a hill, you can pick it up and throw it or do anything you want with it before it starts rolling down, but once it rolls down and gets so big, it’ll crush you to death. So one must never allow fear to develop and build up without having control over it, because if you don’t you won’t be able to achieve your objective or save your life.

I think the non template is doing really well this year and im cheering on the brave alternative thinkers!
I don't have the guts or savvy to do the same because I want to do well and I think there is a conventional wisdom of staying with the herd and not taking too many risks in the first half of the season. Be glad for that to be proven wrong as I would prefer fpl to be a less predictable game

thinking about changing Salah to Haaland, want to stay 1 premium.

Alvarez, Darwin, Salah, Porro ➡ Haaland fodder Johnson White. Leaves money itb to upgrade rest of defence later. fodder striker not ever playing. Would be a -8 but can justify with the restructure.

Why are you thinking Salah to Haaland now? Liverpool still have better fixtures after they play each other.

If you were set on your reasons I think you could do the restructure with 3 moves

        cheers.

just think City will deal better with fixture congestion and Salah has looked a bit off it since Liverpool lost to Spurs.

100% could do in 3 moves, will think about whats best as would need to downgrade Darwin anyways to find the funds to sort out the rest of defence.

How do you react with bad outcomes in FPL? Are you a Steady Eddy willing to wait out the troughs? Are you reactive, doubling down or taking more risks to shake things up and claw back a deficit?

I feel these past few game weeks have offered plenty of spankings no matter whichever philosophy you believe.

For me, my GW10 spanking was in doing too much. I offloaded Gvardiol for Gabriel and took a - 6 point swing. With Udogie benching I had only one defender play. With captaincy I had gone with haaland for 8 out of the last 10. This week I went Watkins and missed his haul.

For GW11 I had eyed up a simple Udogie to Guehi move one I had been planning . Yet after I missed Guehis price rise, though still affordable I rationalised to roll my transfer and wait out the variance with Udogie. This lack of moving cost me another 9 points.

I've never captained Salah despite owning him since GW1 and missing all his hauls I feel an impulse to go continue to go against him with the captaincy.

One thing I find interesting about fpl is how it offers us an opportunity to reflect on our psychology and decision making.

Yes interesting. Rage transfers, indecisiveness, bravado, worrying, gambles, etc. So many ways of reacting. It does tell us a lot about our approach to life.

        • 12 Years

Agreed! There might exist a way to interpret and translate FPL wisdom to conventional wisdom, but it would take a realistic lens as it would be too easy to tell ourselves our engagement with the game is self improvement

not to overact to 1 bad GW, way too much luck/randomness/variance etc in play.

tbh the main issue i find with FPL now is only 1 FT a week, squad depth had grown alot in the past decade and no. injuries increased. picking the right players can be skill but being hit by injury after injury (not even a player you own, injury to a key team-mate for a player you own etc) is tough. And then with the greater squad sizes a player who has competition and is priced accordingly, an injury occurs to the competition and suddenly theres a bargain you cant put in and others can. planning ahead has become almost impossible.

to your point about not captaining a player because you feel like you already missed out on his hauls, do this all the time. Applies to transferring players as well, you just have to think eventually a player reverts to their mean, so hauls means some blanks will follow.

      1. Fellaini's Fro
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 29 days ago

I hear you on that first point. You start to doubt yourself after multiple red arrows though - did I react too much or not enough?

It's I agree tough, some bad luck with transfers like if you bought and sold Botman or you picked Gabriel over Saliba at the start of the season and you are one or two behind the curve it's always playing catch up. Gotta take a hit somewhere to keep pace.

This season has been baffling (yes, i realise people say that every season!). Personally i have lost out on almost every transfer (sometimes by 15+ points) each week, but then i have often got it back the week after. Bad timing, but good decision. We all get it wrong sometimes but also trust your gut, just because it didnt work, doesnt mean it was the wrong decision. Long run it will pay.

It honestly depends if I’ve had a drink or not and if I can bring myself to just put the phone down or not.

Drink + phone = early wild card.

Just a bad week and a breather? Re-assess then go again, usually laughing it off any cursing whatever transfer/line up decision I made that went wrong.

I look at my team and next week’s fixtures with a fresh perspective, set my team up and see what I like/don’t like.

Then look to see who I want/don’t want, who is accessible with FT(s) and consider if I can make a better short term and/or long term move involving a hit(s) and then go with what I think is best.

Then it’s a case of hoping for the best and being comfortable with my moves, in the sense that I’ve made the decisions I believed to be right with the information I had.

It’s the 50/50 calls I get wrong that have such a big negative points deficit that I find hard to take… but switching off, coming back fresh and reminding myself of all of the above helps with that.

As the years have gone on I've learnt just to laugh at bad gameweeks.
I keep holding out making transfers till as late as possible, which this season has hurt a lot in team value.

There's just too much luck involved to get worked up about it. If I have a good gameweek then I try to really appreciate the good luck I've had which means when I have a bad game week I can shrug my shoulders and say 'you win some you lose some' and genuinely mean it.

it depends on what happened, it seems bizarre to say after a gw like the one just gone, but in gw6 i scored 63pts but then rage wildcarded as that was the week Gusto got sent off in a 0-1 loss to Villa and i had him and Chilwell (who didn't start) & Sterling, also i had no Spurs who hauled vs Arsenal or Newcastle in their 8-0 win vs Sheffield, so i had a huge red arrow + loads of players i wanted to buy or get rid of, if i didn't have my WC i would have took a big hit

this week i scored 14pts after a hit, but i'm actually really happy with my team, i have all the players i want, with a couple of very minor issues that can wait so i'm likely just rolling a transfer this week, i just need to remind myself this was just a freak gw that can happen occasionally so there is no need to panic

Turner can sit and rot, no point using transfer on him, can swap him for a 3.9 keeper to free up funds if no injuries or other transfers needed at end of week - as for Cash, just wait for injury news , maybe swap for a Palace defender if he's out, otherwise hold

    A) Gordon Alaverz > Bowen Nketiah

B if you want Bowen longer term, otherwise wait for injury news, Mitoma an option if you don't have him

I would not be selling Gordon ahead of BOU where he might be playing up front.

CHE defense is not impervious too, and MUN especially isn't (He scored against the in the cup)

EVE & TOT afterwards. Could be tricky, but EVE will be a homecoming & TOT, well who knows. Then fab fixtures till Christmas.
