Very close to my team that, other than leaving out TAA for Gvardiol so I can have a better bench (and Muniz option up front).

Also doubt it’ll stick but …

Do you think it is crazy going with this team?

    Areola / Fab
    Gvardiol / Andersen / Mykolenko / Konsa / Bellis
    Saka / Palmer / Son / Eze / CHO
    Isak / Watkins / Liverpool striker (Darwin/Gakpo)

Main negative is liverpool striker due to rotation. Also west ham could play Foderingham.

First post of the new season! Fairly set (for now!) and deciding between the 2 below if you could vote either way please, and any other comments welcome:

    A)
    Sanchez (Turner)
Robertson Livramento MYKOLENKO (or any other 4.5m) (Barco, Harwood-Bellis)
    Salah Hudson-Odoi Eze NKUNKU (Winks)
    Haaland Isak WATKINS

    B)
    Sanchez (Turner)
    Robertson Livramento GVARDIOL (Barco, Harwood-Bellis)
    Salah Hudson-Odoi Eze GORDON (Winks)
    Haaland Isak MUNIZ
0.5 ITB to do Isak to Watkins, Winks to Rogers or 4m def to 4.5m.

    Thanks!

    Hey guys,

Just wondered how this Haaland draft looks?

I decided not go for Foden because I'm worried about minutes because of the euros, plan on going 3-5-2 for now. Appreciate I'm missing Saka, Palmer and Watkins but you can't have them all.

    Henderson
    Gvardiol Andersen Martinez
    Salah Bruno Nkunku Hudson Odoi
    Gordon
    Haaland Isak

    0.0 itb

    Paulsen Bednarek Johnson N Fraser

I think we'd all like to see Neale follow up his righteous £4m defender article with a player by player article about the best £4.5m midfielders.

Almost everyone here will be going 3-4-3 and I for one have no idea who the best £4.5m mid is.

Settled on this draft to start the season. Throwing a few punts here and there and making some bets against the template picks like Salah/Palmer/Foden/Watkins/Saka.

    Pope (Fabianski)
    TAA Gvardiol VVD (Barco, Harwood-Bellis)
    Son Gordon Eze Hudson-Odoi (Winks)
    Haaland Isak Wood

Im extremely bullish on Nottingham Forest seeing the way they ended the season and how well they’ve done in preseason. I think Son is a very underrated pick for the first two gameweeks as well, prefer his fixtures/price point to the other premiums.

I wouldn't start with VVD, talk of him being sold too. I think double Liverpool defence and the expenditure is far too risky under new management. I'd downgrade to a 4.5m defender and upgrade one of your 4m defenders to a 4.5 for balance/rotation options. Or, go for an Arsenal 6m defender (Saliba?).

If there is extra cash, consider upgrading Hudson-Odoi or your 5th mid as your midfield seems a little light generally. Doubling up on Forest attack and having a weak sub reduces flexibility if Forest has a tough fixture.

        • 10 Years

Interesting, I didn’t know about the VVD news!

I’ve thought about Saliba and Porro, the 0.5 from Porro is tempting to upgrade a 4.0.

Planning to get the Forest boys out, but you’re right that downgrading VVD could go a long way to upgrading to a Nkunku or Bailey. I don’t love the 5.0 defenders, but a 4.5 might be the play as you said

I'm generally not a fan of locking in a transfer before GW1. Things can go wrong that require an early fix. If it goes well then it would be better to stick with a solid team and save as many transfers as you feel the need.

What are your thoughts on attacking defenders playing for teams that concede, bearing in mind the new BPS rule?

Specifically looking at the likes of Trent, Gvardiol & Porro. Lots of attacking potential, but the additional negative BPS for goals conceded (and their team’s habit of doing so) reduces their likelihood of bonus.

Am considering all of these 3, but starting to think it makes more sense to go cheap in defence with solid teams (CPL, EVE etc) and use the funds for attack.

    1. Eze Really?
      • 11 Years

My probable route, albeit lacking a little logic is to go for Haaland, Salah and one of the defenders you mentioned. I want to have at least something to watch in my defenders. Probably Gvardiol. Fun yes. Logic not so sure.

For me, the only money I’ll spend on defence is Arsenal & City because like you say, the bonus is now penalised for conceding (& they concede the least) don’t see the value in spending 1m more on a good 4.5 to a attacking 5.5 from a team who concede frequently (Spurs for example)

    3. DaftPunk
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Save your funds for midfield/attack. If you have to pick one of those defenders, go with Gvardiol.

As for Everton, I don't think they'll perform as well defensively this season so I'll be avoiding their defence, but will keep an eye on the situation in case I'm proven wrong. If you're keen on an attacking defender, maybe give CPL's Munoz (£5.0m) some consideration.

Perhaps we are all reading too much into this. In the past, I don’t recall anyone saying they were going to get an attacking defender because of the additional bonus they thought they would get.

I agree with RD, a bit too much made of this. I am keeping it simple in my head, focusing on first five. Put off by Ars fixtures, Liv's look good for a couple of CSs you would think, so currently got Trent.

I totally agree. Are people really not going to pick an attacking defender who may get goals and assists just because he might not get as much bonus?

I think so Polis, said on here in the week, he’s been focussing on raising the level of the squad because that’s what you need to over take City (not just a strong 11)

Timber & Calafiori will add to that in defence.

Merino (sounds like that’s happening) & Partey (who missed most of the season) will add to that in MF

Jesus is fit & sharp now so he’ll add to that upfront & I know there’s talk of a winger coming in.

Last year he didn’t have the options to rotate as much as you need to in a CL season, he does now, it’s the next level for him to reach.

There are some that will be pretty nailed on still. I can't see Raya, Saliba, Gabriel, Rice, Ode and Saka not starting the vast majority.

Yeah sure but around CL games will be the worry, if he can make changes (like Pep) where the quality doesn’t drop, I’m certain he will.

Players like Nketiah, Smith Rowe & Nelson are all being moved out for better options, they were the options last year.

Nope, will settle on 3 and take what comes, with 5 subs even if a player don’t start, they are likely to come on at some point.

Are the likes of Martinelli a no go at the moment? What with Trossard.

I would put Martinelli in the 'wait-and-see' bracket. Had quite a drop-off last season, and Trossard often makes a big impact so he would likely be at risk of rotation or an early substitution. His price will be tempting if he can rediscover his 22/23 form.

Regarding Martinelli, I find that the majority of Arsenal's attacks come down Saka (and White's) side. It can be incredibly frustrating to watch if you've got him.

That’s because the left side wasn’t great last year, left back was a problem & Havertz had half a season on the left side being low in confidence, Martinelli suffered.

The season before he was in everyone’s team.

Calafiori & Merino looks like he’s trying to fix that left side.

Good to see that there isn't a clear and obvious template team yet, unlike previous seasons. Currently, there are only three players with over 50% ownership (but none of those are over 60%), and the usual suspects of Haaland and Salah are only the sixth and seventh most owned, respectively.

Should make for a great game this year.

Seems like all the pundits on here have shifted towards salah + haaland drafts.

I prefer the look fo the RMTs I have seen from the general public with no haaland but with isac and watkins uo front and strong midfields

There's logic of starting with them and being able to jump off to literally anyone, but I really don't love the fringe players you have to start if going with both.

Is a midfield of Salah, Eze, Gordon & CHO much weaker than a team without both Salah & Haaland? I don’t think it is.

Most teams with Haaland & Salah have a midfield structured like that.
