Hey mate, great team - similar to mine and yeah I did want Salah but that 2.5 m saving you get with Son makes a huge difference.

How often will we captain Salah with Haaland in the team as well? Probably not much.

Andy Robertson just returned to some light training yesterday and seems quite a bit away from starting. Slot has favoured Tsmikas in that LB position during pre season. Could he be a gifted £4.5m that we're missing here?

Cheers for the update. Yeah could be - only seen Tsimikas in one team here that I can recall. I guess there's also Gomez but doesn't seem like he's such a good fit for Slot on what I've seen & read so far.

From what I've read he's still quite a bit away from being ready to start. Could wrong obviously. Tomorrow's 2 friendlies for Liverpool should cast a light on where he is. If he's omitted from both games you'd assume he's nowhere ready to start vs Ipswich.

Breakdown of Liverpools Inside Training video.

          - Full squad back. Including Alisson!
          - Robertson taking part in full training it seems

Gym work followed by fitness/movement and then ball work.

Ball work including the usual passing rondos where they were counting how many passes they could do before losing the ball.

          Then, 11 vs 11!

Team (non-bibs), you can clearly see Kelleher, Robertson, Van Dijk, Quansah, Alexander-Arnold, Jones, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Salah, Jota

Vs team (bibs) you can see the likes of Allison, van den Berg, Endo, Núñez, Gomez, Carvalho, Elliott…

Then they change to attack vs defence!

We can see Elliott and Bradley join team non-bibs before you hear Slot shouting for more changes with Gakpo coming in for Diaz and Carvalho for Salah. Clearly they are interchanging to give everyone a good go! We can then see Tsimikas join, Núñez and Gomez too.

Could that first non-bib XI be what faces Sevilla on Sunday?

Who didn’t I see? Unless I’m mistaken, Mac Allister

EDIT: I can see Mac Allister. Towards the end of the video

    Moved to new article:
I've finally bottled it and succumbed to having Salah and Haaland.
What do you think of this team? Very light on defence but honestly I think defenders are pretty rubbish anyway.

    Flekken
    Gabriel, Mykolenko, Konsa
    Salah, Eze, Nkunku, Gibbs-White
    Haaland, Isak, Solanke

    Bentley, Rogers, Barco, Harwood-Bellis

Solid. Personally I'd prefer to have another 4.5m def to rotate with Myko rather than play him at Spurs & Villa away, but if Barco starts regularly he could do that job

    3. Tommy Template

I think there's too much compromise by having them both, hardly surprising as you're taking out over a quarter of the total budget on the two of them. I'm not actually thinking of your defence so much here either its the midfield. I mean the defence isn't ideal but its probably only a 4.5m instead of one of the 4.0's away from being okay so nothing drastic there. Its this lure at the moment of these 5.0-6.5 midfielders to enable it with a lot of potential upside but also a lot of question marks over. One, maybe two of them max is fine but you've got three of them and I think its too many question marks in an area of the park where typically most of the FPL points come.

      • 12 Years

My attempts at salah haaland drafts come out with a very similar structure.

      I prefer these changes
      MGW to ESR
      Solanke to Havertz
      Eze to Gordon

I think those picks score more. But other than that I quite like it. Some other different choices, like the premium defender, but yeah, I like it.

not sure about the changes suggested, all good picks dont get me wrong but solanke and gibbs white have fab opening fixtures. eze to gordon is worth it only if gordon doesnt leave newcastle though. gl 🙂

Cheers everyone, lots of food for thought here. Maybe Eze+MGW > Gordon+ESR and using the extra 0.5m to upgrade one of my 4.0m defenders is the way to go with this structure. But I do also see DERBZ87's point about the gamble on these cheap mids working compared to the more tried and tested ones... but is that worth it to have Salah and Haaland? Maybe

  6. FPL Sanky

Why is everyone ignoring Mbeumo? He has shown good form in pre season....with Toney's situation, he would be the talisman and on pens.....he was on fire at the start of last season as well.

Toney hasn't played a single minute in the pre season...agreed with the fixtures though....LIV and ARS are tough in the first 5 but still feel he can score in any of the fixtures....might be a good idea to start with him and if he doesn't perform, move him to any of the 6.5's

Eze probably a better option as he is on pens? Similar teams in terms of where they are likely to be this season. Probably similar fixtures? I haven't paid that much attention to be honest to Brentfords. That said I'd prefer Mbuemo to a lot of the 6.5 punts if I could find the 0.5.

Considering him. Just the fixtures are the main drawback - looked up his record against the opening 6 & it wasn't great. Tempting captaincy option in GW3 though & don't mind the Spurs game; wouldn't even mind starting him v City if it was GW1-3 but by GW4 I think they'll be back to full strength with Rodri & co

    Morning all,

    Two questions if I may;

    1) do we know who Forests keeper is likely to be yet?

    2) is Szoboszlai likely to be a starter for Liverpool and worth picking or would you rather TAA and re shuffle the cash?

    Cheers

All roads point to Sels at the moment, but that isn't for definite.

Honestly I prefer Elliott over Szob. We still have no evidence on how liverpool will set up once everyone returns. So it's an avoid aside from salah for me.

Cheers. Forest is definitely the 4.5 keeper I want but they seem to enjoy getting new ones in.

Fair point on Liverpool. Hoping to avoid the early wild card so getting an insecure keeper & mid might be best avoided.

Early season Spurs went top by startling everyone with their pressing, but as we all knew, it was at the expense of defending. Then as the players got the hand of Angeball, the defence all got injured. Right now they all appear to be fit and familiar with their roles - my hunch is that they'll defend better this time around.

Kinda depends on the rest of your team. In theory both good, but Havertz can play every GW, whereas ESR is a bit more of an unknown quantity and you probably don't want him for tougher fixtures.

There's lots of potential in the 5.5 bracket - ESR, Andreas, Semenyo, CHO, Elanga, Minteh, Ramsay, Murphy, Kamada, Sarabia... But it's a question of picking the right one, or jumping on and off at the right times based on rotation, fixtures, etc.

      False...

      Ange Postecoglou:

"I have always felt that if you get the recruitment right then whoever it is hits the ground running. We signed Micky van de Ven three days before the first game last year, against Brentford, and we threw him straight in. He literally hit the ground running.
We are trying to identify players who fit into our style of football. There will be a bit of adjustment but hopefully they will already have those qualities to come into the group and contribute straight away. That is my expectation when we sign someone - they will be ready to contribute from the moment they arrive."

For those jumping around the 5.5 midfielder bracket, I think starting with Murphy regardless of whether you have Isak and Gordon, is the best bet.

5 goals 3 assists in pre season, he’ll be nailed for the excellent first 3 fixtures. Then you reassess and jump on whoever emerges in this price bracket (Minteh/Kamada/ESR etc)

    No brainer?

I reckon Havertz. Arsenal in great form. Good in preseason. Seems certain to start. Keeps popping up with goals and assists.

Best value route into Arsenal attack, would like Solanke mind, can Johnson keep up with him?

Very similar to mine. 9/10 for me. I’m avoiding arsenal defence because villa spurs and city in the first 5. That change allows you to upgrade one of those 5.5 mids.

What do we think of this? Think it's my final team.

    Henderson (4.0)
    Gvardiol Mykolenko Robinson (Barco HB)
    Salah Eze Nkunku CHO (Winks)
    Haaland Watkins Isak

Hiow does this look? It's quite light on the bench, bit I don't really like licking funds up in bench players at the start of the season anyway.

    Raya
    VVD | Gvardiol | Porro
    Salah | Son | Gordon | Nkunku
    Isak | Havertz | Solanke

    4.0 | Winks | Harwood-Bellis | Barco

Its one of the best non-Haaland teams I've seen. Obviously no bench but I'm with you, especially now we can bank more transfers, we don't need a bench. You get an injury you ship them out, hardly as if your bench is 3 non-starters so you'll get something coming in even if its not great. I think you've got enough there from the others to offset a lot of what Haaland might do and that is the key with non-Haaland teams, focus on the upside with what you can do instead. Obviously he'll score goals but then so will Salah, Son etc etc

What if I told you Rogers = Palmer last season?

People too obsessed about seeing money spent in certain positions, it’s about identifying bargains, I’ve got the most expensive mid, a mid priced (7.5), as well as a 6.5/5.5 where there is a plethora of options to jump on.

Then Rogers is the weak point yes, but Palmer was 5.0 last season and he didn’t make it look weak…

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years

Might turn out a decent pick & I'm not particularly against him, but I don't think it's realistic or helpful to use Palmer as a benchmark for emerging 5m options. 244pts from nowhere is too exceptional to expect a repeat

          1. Fat Frank
            • 8 Years

I know, but even if he scored say 60% of that he would be a bargain at 5.0, I don’t literally mean repeating Palmer’s performance, merely proof of concept that price does not equal potential.

I actually think I agree with you on structure though - there's quite a few players I like around that 5.5m mark. One of my drafts has Bobb, ESR & Rogers (rotating for 2 spots)

Structure wise he is stuck on Rogers though. No other 5m mid that can do well longterm. That 5.5m slot has many options but if Rogers flops he has to take a hit and downgrade somewhere else before upgrading.

Not a problem with transfers rolling to 5, plus Rogers will be nailed at the start, perhaps even in the second striker Diaby role

    Haaland, Isak, Solanke

    Fab, Rogers, Barco, Faes

    Out of 10??

7/10. I think Solanke may not go straight into the first team, but definitely a good long term pick. Still not sure about Jota’s minutes under Slot, so it’s a wait and see. I think there’s better 4.5 options than Konsa too, maybe Robinson

What do you fellas think of this draft? Not sure about Hall, but if he has nailed that lb spot for Newcastle, he’s great value:

    Henderson (4.0)
    Saliba, Robinson, Hall, Barco, Faes
    Salah, Eze, Nkunku, CHO, Winks
    Haaland, Isak, Watkins

How about this one….thoughts? What to change? For example Bailey to Rogers would enable Sels to Raya and Andersen to Muniz….

    Sels Bentley
    TAA Gvardiol Andersen Hall Robinson
    Saka Eze Nkunku Bailey Hudson-Odoi
    Haaland Isak Muniz

Why are people going for Sels over Areola, Flekken, Henderson...?

I think I'd even prefer Neto, Sa or Muric.

      Looks good other than that.

    4.0, Rogers, Barco, Bellis

If Palmer plays as one of two attacking 8s like we expect, then you'd think so. He'll probably be subbed early most weeks for a Madueke/Sterling/Mudryk though

Yeah I'm not sure why so many seem to assume Neto will displace Madueke. Isn't LW more of a problem with Sterling/Mudryk unlikely to be good enough to nail it down?

    Quite like this:

    Pope, 4.0

    Saka, Jota, Eze, Nkunku, Rodgers
    Haaland, Isak, Solanke
