I recon this is about the best non haaland draft I can make and also goes heavy into Liverpool who are top of the ticker for the first 5 games

    That bench though

    Henderson
    Porro Trent Gvardiol
    Jota salah palmer saka CHO
    Isak muniz

    4.0 4.0 4.0 4.5

Would you risk it? All those starters are pretty nailed and should have at least 1 starting 4m def

If wildcarding GW2 I probably wouldnt have Gvardiol away to Chelsea there. Prefer Saliba / Gabriel. Also prefer Wood to Muniz GW1 and Bruno for Palmer. Play the fixtures if wildcarding GW2 imo

Risky. Haaland has relatively low ownership. If he blows up int he first couple of games, his ownership and price will rocket, and you're in no position to get him in without a WC. I think it's worth the risk if you're willing to jump on the WC early. And anyway, your defence could well make up the difference in points.

That defense is way too heavy imo. I'd downgrade the defense and make Muniz > Solanke. And then yeah, I like it.

The bench isn't the concern, it's the ability to move funds around and you're too heavy at the back imo.

Has had an excellent pre-season scoring goals for fun.

Plays wide right, so not competing directly with Gordon/Barnes. Almiron receiving offers from MLS.

A punt, but worth taking depending on funds and how much you want to back Newcastle

ESR, Bobb. Johnson was a shout, but Solanke joining makes me worried as Son will play on the left. So that leaves Johnson vs. Kulu on the right.

    Hi Guys,

I wish you an exciting FPL season. Instead of writing my team and simply "RMT" I spent some time explaining my thoughts for picks so I really appreciate your experienced advice from my point of view.

GK: Raya, 4.0 - Yes Arsenal is at the bottom in the first 10 games in the sense of defense but hey they were the best team in the sense of clean sheet last season.

DF: Munoz - One of the best attacking potential defenders in the game. 5/13 clean sheet under Glasner. A decent fixture to start.
Mykolenko - In Sean Dyche we trust. Only Arsenal had more clean sheet than Everton. Everton has the best defense fixture in the first 10 GW.
Konsa: A promising fixture for a team that clinched the Champions League ticks my list for a 4.5m defender.
Barca: Seems nailed on for a couple of weeks until Estupinian returns. It would be great if he can play in GW 4 & 5.
Harwood-Bellis: A bench fodder that you know that he will play.

Mid: Salah: Great fixture. I think having him at the start gives me less headache than not. Against Ipswich, he can easily deliver a penalty goal + an assist and 3 bonus points. Then everybody will try to get him. To find the necessary funds, I may need to do 3 transfers.
Saka: What does he need to prove else? 16 goals and 13 assists. Always reliable and consistent.
ESR: At this point, I have to punt. Well, if you can say the second most-owned sub 5.5m midfielder is a punt. Let's hope LEI and ips games create a bandwagon.
    Rogers: Same reasoning with ESR.
Winks: A reliable 2-point bench fodder if it is necessary.

FW: Haaland: Look what I have written for Salah. Harder to bring him to the team than offload if he doesn't deliver.
Isak: Not much to explain here. 21 goals & 4 assists. He is the most selected player already.
Solanke: A proven FPL scorer with an inferior team. Hard to pass him with this price.

My opinions that I snubbed in my team:

TAA, Gvardiol, Porro: Except Arsenal, all the other teams' clean sheets only 1/3 of their games last season. After 3 Arsenal defenders, Porro was the fourth most-point defender with 136. 20 midfielders reached that point. One year is not a trend but I haven't seen any reason it won't continue where we left in May. Until we get more data I rely on my selection based on where we left and ommit premium defenders.

Nkunku: The last time I watched Chelsea, they were a mess. Now they have a new manager. Nkunku had only 2 starts last year. So what have he and his team proved to us so I pick him against City?

Eze: He was on my starting team last year. He was in my team initial team this season too. But I needed to ditch him to fund others. Olise is gone. Mateta returns from a heavy Olympics duty. So I convinced myself that Eze could have a slow start and then I could re-assess and find the necessary funds to get him.

I am very open to listening if you agree or disagree with my thoughts.

    1. Moxon
      • 12 Years

Very solid reasonings - I don't think Rogers is a good enough 4th mid and having two 4m defenders is generally inadvisable

        • 13 Years
        2 years, 19 days ago

yeah, I am aware that the team is a lot unbalanced with heavy hitters and penny players. I hope Barco plays well a couple of weeks so I will have enough time to reassess the underperforming heavy hitters and cash out to balance more.

      Nice format

re: Nkunku, I think last season was a write off due to injuries, that being said, 3 goals in 2 games is not bad at all. Also, if you apply the logic of avoiding the mess of Chelsea, you would have never owned Palmer all of last season, which is undoubtably a mistake.
You're not picking a team for GW1, there are fixtures beyond that... also, he can score against City, it's not impossible

1000000% agree with the defender stance. Midfield is where budget should be allocated most. There are the odd defenders who are outliers and score massively (200 pts), but they become more obvious to own during the first few weeks of the season. More often than not, expensive defenders underwhelm compared to mid-priced mids..

Some decent feedback there. As a Villa fan I disagree with you on Konsa though, West ham away is not a promising fixture for Villa at all and we have been awful in pre-season, Also Rogers is a wait and see, not nailed with Ramsey back (and looking decent in pre-season).
Re Eze same for me last season, started with him and quickly regretted it (Mbuemo was the pick in that price bracket last season)

      1. marco_atk85
        • 13 Years
        2 years, 19 days ago

Thanks a lot. I can sub him first 2 weeks. But do you have a more reliable 4.5m defender?

There is a reason why Rogers is 5m and I am very aware of the risks but given that I have all the heavy hitters with Haaland, Salah, Saka, Isak, and Solanke this is what it left to me. Again if one of them underperforms and I can downgrade him that allows me enough funds to upgrade Rogers but I couldn't find more upside 5m midfielder for now.

Gakpo and Darwin are already back. They both played 67 mins in the last friendly

Settled, just deciding to go for Rogers or ESR to start. (Other will be 1st bench)

    So here's my latest scheme...

    Week 1 - 2: Bobb, 5.0 GK, Porro
    Week 3 - 5: Nkunku, 5.0 GK, 5.0 DEF (looking at Cucurella)
    Week 6 - ?: WC Window

Thoughts? Don't feel like I'm missing out on a big Nkunku haul in the first two games + City's absent RW options (Savio, Bernardo, Phil?) will be back up and running by Week 2/3...

    a) Salah + Rice
    or
    b) Saka + Jota

I went rogue and got neither Salah nor Haaland. Makes for a strong team. Worth it?

    Raya
TAA, Porro, Muñoz / Robinson, Hall
    Palmer, Saka, Foden, Eze, Rogers
    Watkins, Isak

I could downgrade Hall to Barco and Rogers to ESR.

I would do those moves you mention. Would also start with Son in place of Palmer or Foden and probably Havertz/Solanke over Watkins, given uncertainty he starts GW1.

Would also be inclined to shift some of defense funds to midfield.

Yes, IMO. I would downgrade one of Gvardi / Saliba + Konsa > 4.0 (Barco) and use funds to upgrade CHO.

Seems pretty close to a coin flip to me.
