Who would you bench here? Davis (EVE), Dibing(LEI), Lewis(wol),TAA(CHE), or Saliba(bou). Just need to bench 1. Ty. Kind of keen to play the first 2 as it is probably the only time I will give them a runout.

Which premiums to downgrade to get Haaland in for his next two great fixtures? And which ones to lose?

    1) Watkins, 1 of Salah/Palmer/Saka and TAA ---> Haaland, Johnson and Ait-Nouri

    2) Ui-Jo + 2 of Salah/Palmer/Saka ---> Haaland, Johnson and McNeil

    3) Go without Haaland

Marc Cucurella: “There are too many games. We're not robots. We can see how many injuries... now Carvajal and Rodri, that's bad"

Some footballers really are the most entitled people on the planet and/or are just plain thick. He currently plays once a week and earns £175k in that time

    1. Haa-lala-land

I'd love them to be asked how much of their wages they would be willing to lose, in a trade off for them playing less games.

      1. Qaiss
        • 9 Years

Barely any of them would do that. They never have a solution to it as well, which could be telling their manager to rotate a 25 man squad

Then they’d be telling us how hard it is being on the bench

One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Cucurella and other players are talking about what appears to be an unsafe work environment. Oh but you get paid 175k a week? Be quiet then.

Such a tiresome argument equating your earnings with what the human body is capable of. He has every right as do son Rodri mgginn to say that they are playing too much football and it's causing more injuries. Fifa and uefa just want to hoover up money at their expense. Rugby as a sport and nfl have out grown what a human can do safely and the lawsuits now and in the future will prove that. football is going in that direction if Fifa and uefa don't check themselves.

      1. Qaiss
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 29 days ago

Why does he have every right? Injuries happen in football. It’s a 25 man squad. Rodri was talking about the schedule but Guardiola had been playing him in every match for years. Cucurella plays once a week and is talking about the schedule

And if some players believe they play too much, what’s the solution? How many more games are played compared with 10/20 years ago? Was the human body not capable back then?

I said some footballers, because the vast majority are playing only once a week. Earnings are relevant, because like the poster above said, if you asked them if they want to play less and therefore earn less, they’d go quiet

I’m not a fan of the new CL format or the nations league btw, the latter is a waste of time

        1. boc610
          • 13 Years

Cuccurella played every game for Spain at the euros then pretty much went straight into a new season after a pretty gruelling campaign with Chelsea the season before. He could be getting a symbolic wage of a euro a week or playing for free and the argument still stands. Footballers play too many games. Any blank on the calender fifa fill and its down to greed. The solution is obvious. More breaks, less football and you will get less injuries and a better product overall where the best players aren't sidelined for the big games. But the notion that someone's wages means an unsafe work environment (which is what this is ) is somehow acceptable and they should suck it up is ludicrous

      2. Haa-lala-land

Noone here will know whether injuries to footballers have increased over the years, or the the types, all we have is players telling us they're playing more games, and they don't like that.
Certainly in FPL it feels like a lot less yellow and red flags this season so far!

More games = more money = bigger wages + bonuses

It's obviously demanding playing all the time, but top players are compensated extremely well for it. It's massively out of touch to expect sympathy from the masses when you make more in a week than the majority of the country do in years.

FIFA and UEFA are obviously bent as a 9 bob note, but they've already made changes to the game (more substitutions, bigger sub benches, etc) to encourage more rotation. Managers are actively choosing to work with smaller squads and how many times have we seen the likes of Guardiola refuse to make subs or Klopp trot out the same starting XI every single game over the years?

Players know their own bodies better than anyone and I'm sure managers would be willing to rest them if they're feeling the strain - problem is you don't get your appearance fee if you're sat in the stands...

        1. Qaiss
          • 9 Years

Exactly this, it’s only a minority of the players saying these things and they’re the ones that have the biggest squads, best players, best facilities to be able to rotate their squad, which they dont seem to do

There must’ve been a few games last season for instance, where Rodri didn’t need to play over Phillips or Kovacic, yet he was still used like a bar of soap and blames the scheduling, rather than his own manager

They want the upsides of being a professional footballer and aren’t willing to take any of the slight downsides. When you give them what they want, they ask for more

In my opinion there are too many games if you are top player. However what is clear the vast majority of top players are able to play those number of games without serious injury. Ok some will get injured as a result of too many games and some will be serious but it’s an occupational hazard.

Does anyone know how many games is deemed acceptable by the players rising concerns ?

Player wages are market driven, in the same way that bank manager bonuses are market driven. Don't like it, then fine. Cancel all your football TV subscriptions, never buy an Arsenal shirt again, and never go to the Emirates again, otherwise you are a hypocrite.

If you not happy at your workplace you’re free to find different employment.
Why should it be different for footballers? If Cucurella is really that unhappy or worried he can hand the notice in\terminate his contract and find a job in which he will be happy.
        Maybe Cypress Hill tribute band?

Can he actually terminate his contract though? If only there had been anything in the news recently about how footballers are restricted in finding alternative employment.

Maybe a high profile court case about how footballers don't actually have the same rights as other workers? I wonder if anything like that has happened recently? hmmm

      2. Qaiss
        • 9 Years

I wasn’t complaining about player wages in particular. They can earn those wages but they need to play the games

Increased workload = more pay. Football player wages are so high because like you say, they’re market driven. Players want to take those wages and play less games though, which is not how it works. That’s the problem

Do you think players would half their wages, in order to play less games? Highly, highly doubt it

As for suffering physically, they have big squads, they have brilliant facilities to help them recover from playing matches. If you go far in all competitions, you have to use the squad and rotate. Some managers don’t rotate, players get injured and they blame the schedule

If my employer increased my workload to the point I can’t cope, I would have to stop working for him. Most footballers love their job and the vast majority don’t complain about the amount of games there are to play

It’s just a few, at some of the top teams, complaining as their manager won’t rotate or they want to reap the rewards of being a football player, whilst somehow telling us they should play less games. That’s entitlement

Why do these footballers keep moaning at fifa and uefa . These bodies are not making them play. That's their managers job. This is all deliberate misdirection.
Fact is these clubs have large squads for a reason. Rotation. And its depth of squad that sorts the wheat from the chaff , the good football club from the elite club worthy of trophies.
If you're manager keeps playing you in all comps to point of burn out that's an issue between you and your club.

      1. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years
        1 year, 29 days ago

        Exactly.

Rodri started 34 league games last season, playing over 85% of available minutes. His deputies Kovacic and Nunes combined didn't even come close to that, with the latter playing less than 900 minutes across the season (for £50m btw). Three games were missed via suspension, so it's likely he would have played even more (like the previous season).

City played a total of 59 games last season (not including friendlies) - Rodri played in 50 of them, missed 3 via suspension, 1 via injury, and 5 via benching/squad omission. From the Community Shield to the first international break (27 days), they played him in 4 league games and 2 glorified friendlies (the CS and Super Cup).

This isn't a scheduling problem - this is a squad management problem.

I tried counting up their WC posts but ran out of fingers when it surpassed 15.

Haaland and Palmer averaging 9.5 points per game is insane, barring injury it almost feels sustainable aswell. 360 point season loading?

Haaland for the next 2, gw10 & 11 Liverpool probably best then I think Palmer will get most of my captaincies, no Europe is a big factor too

There was some doubts with FPL pricing Palmer 0.5m more than Saka and Son from one season worth of data but looks like they might have actually underpriced him as I think he is the 2nd best premium in the game

Funny that, considering Palmers price jump was massive, Salah shouldve been similar price I think, bit of hindsight of course but that wouldve made it more of a dilema if they were both over 11m-ish

I think they got Salah price right. Normally compared to Haaland rather Saka/Son and the total points over a number of seasons

To be fair he has racked up the points still despite not quite seeming his usual self, maybe thats just my bias as I bet against him whenever possible haha

Palmer definitely a better value. Costs a whole 4m less.

Footballers playing too many games is more about the strain on their bodies than their salaries. High wages don’t reduce the physical exhaustion or risk of injury from constant matches with little rest. The demands of frequent games, travel, and minimal recovery time take a toll on performance and long-term health. While their pay might be high, it doesn't change the fact that excessive game schedules can lead to burnout, impacting their ability to perform at their best. The focus should be on protecting players' well-being, not on how much they earn.

Whilst this is true, their wage accounts for hazard pay. Their wage reflects the risk of injury. Performance decrease is overstated I think.
Simply losing some of the World wide friendlies that clubs choose to play in the off season of Summer, should make life easier for the footballers. I'm not on their side, yet!

I don't think you necessarily need to make that move when you can bench Semenyo and start Wood

    From GW12 onwards, which combo?

    A) Solanke & Semenyo
    Or
    B) Welbeck & Mbeumo

I don't see why you wouldn't have Mbeumo regardless of fixtures. Pretty much ticks all the boxes as an FPL pick and plays in front 2 when against difficult opposition.
