STARTING SEVEN

GOALKEEPER
Fleetwood Town’s Double Gameweek at home makes them a prime target for defensive investment. However, the lack of convincing defensive options pushes me towards goalkeeper David Harrington (G). With two clean sheets in his last three outings, along with a cool 21 points, Harrington goes into his home matches against Colchester United and Doncaster Rovers in great form.
DEFENDERS
Although tempted by a back three, I also really like this week’s attacking options. Therefore, I’m going with just a couple. Although they too have a Double Gameweek, Colchester seriously lack viable attackers and because of this, I’ve opted to grab two from their defence.
To add a bit of spice, both full-back Ellis Iandolo (D) and Mandela Egbo (D) come into my squad. Iandolo has started all 16 of Colchester’s league matches this season, proving he is reliable for game time, whereas Egbo scored recently, which is promising.
The latter is very much a risk though, as he currently sits on four yellow cards. If I get cold feet on him, then I’ll instead switch to youngster Aaron Donnelly (D), who has started his side’s last four matches.
MIDFIELDERS
Peterborough United have one of the best fixtures, on paper. League One’s second-highest-scoring side will be facing rock-bottom Burton Albion and one player who could punish them is Kwame Poku (M).
He has already amassed a huge 10 goals and five assists, where four of those contributions came recently against Cambridge United. This shows just how explosive he can be.
Joining Poku in midfield is a player I think is going under the radar again, Alex Gilbey (M). MK Dons are at home to Chesterfield, providing a good opportunity to add to the huge 27 goals they’ve already netted. Gilbey comes into the game fresh from scoring in four consecutive matches.
FORWARDS
Fleetwood’s Double Gameweek makes them very appealing from an attacking perspective and, unlike Colchester, they have an individual who I am immediately drawn to. Penalty taker Ronan Coughlan (F) has been one of their most effective players, banking six goals and one assist in 12 league matches. With two occasions to score – even if he only features in one of them – it’s very difficult to resist.
Filling up the final spot is Borja Sainz (F). Norwich City ended Gameweek 16 with eight goals and star man Sainz contributed to three of them. There have also been a trio of times where he’s managed three attacking returns in the same match, meaning he’s one of the most explosive assets around. Next up is Luton Town and a defence that has shipped eight goals in three.
CLUB PICKS
Being an aggressive manager, I’ll always look to select those with a Double Gameweek and that’s the case here. Having multiple opportunities to win, score and keep clean sheets, statistically we know that both Colchester and Fleetwood are likely to outperform most other sides across all three leagues.
CAPTAINCY
My armband is currently on Ronan Coughlan. However, my gut feeling says the form of Kwame Poku could easily outscore him, even with one fewer match. This decision will go right to the deadline.
OTHER KEY TARGETS
Of course, there’s a huge likelihood that this team could change. I’m very interested in Middlesbrough duo Finn Azaz (M) and Emmanuel Latte Lath (F), along with Watford’s Ryan Andrews (D) and Crewe Alexandra centre-back Mickey Demetriou (D). In fact, Boro’s line-up will be pivotal to my plans.
