STARTING SEVEN

GOALKEEPER
I can’t think of another goalkeeper across all three divisions I would want to own this week. Michael Cooper (G) has helped his Sheffield United side keep a huge 12 clean sheets this season. Gameweek 19 could well see him add to that, especially considering he faces a woeful Plymouth side up next.
DEFENDERS
Another side who have maintained elite defensive stats at home this season thus far is Wrexham. The Welsh side have been formidable in their own ground and star defender Max Cleworth (D) has been a standout performer in Fantasy EFL. As well as offering clean sheet potential this week, Cleworth also offers attacking threat, having managed six goal contributions already in all competitions this campaign.
Adding to my Welsh coverage, Joe Low (D) also makes the cut. It’s top versus bottom this week, as Wycombe come head-to-head with Shrewsbury Town. Low is averaging 4.6 clearances per game in the league but more significantly, he has also produced an impressive three goals in his previous five league matches.
MIDFIELDERS
No side have shipped more goals than Morecambe this season (34). For that reason, and considering his talismanic form this season, Ethon Archer (M) is a shoo-in this week. The 22-year-old has amassed five goals and five assists up until now, which shows a fine balance of both creativity and goal threat. This indicates he has multiple routes to points going into any given game.
Completing my midfield, and a player who has served me well this campaign is Alex Gilbey (M). Although unconvincing in parts of their journey up to now, MK Dons have netted three goals in all three of their last league matches. They take that scoring form into a clash with an out-of-sorts Gillingham defence, and main man Gilbey could benefit. He has been in excellent form recently, notching a cool six goals in his last five league games.
FORWARDS
Playing at home and facing a Bristol Rovers side who have shipped five goals in their last two matches suggests backing Birmingham frontman Jay Stansfield (F) is a good move. Recently rested in the cup, Stansfield heads into Gameweek 19 fit and firing – after bagging five goals in his last five matches. His penalty-taking duty also adds another dimension to his overall appeal.
Walsall sit top of League Two after a hugely impressive start to their 2023/24 journey. Having scored more goals than any other side in the division, my hope is they add to that in their clash against Bromley, who have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 league outings. Leading their frontline is the scintillating Nathan Lowe (F). Lowe banked a whopping nine goals and four assists in his first 14 matches, making him one of the most in-form strikers in the game thus far.
CLUB PICKS
With Double and Triple Gameweeks coming thick and fast, I need to be very careful to avoid teams like Leeds, Sheffield United, Wrexham and several others. For that reason, and taking into account I haven’t selected them at all this season, both Wycombe and Walsall come into my thinking. As well as having favourable fixtures, both sides sit top of their respective leagues after excellent campaigns.
CAPTAINCY
Five clean sheets on the bounce and a home match could be enough for me to settle my captaincy on Cleworth. As mentioned the Welshman also has considerable attacking threat, and the ability to pick up additional points via defensive actions. The armband may be currently on Cleworth, but I also think Jay Stansfield could have a very good round, which forces him into the captaincy debate.
