THE STARTING SEVEN

Gameweek 23 went fairly well for me with a return of 81 points.
This week with some L1 and L2 sides doubling, but all Championship sides doubling, I have opted for a very Championship heavy side this upcoming week. It is a side made up of both differentials and popular picks, but all out on the double gameweek assets.
I have also backed the 1-3-2-1 formation again, with their being limited Double Gameweek forwards available.
GOALKEEPER
In between the sticks I have gone with Illan Meslier (G). This one was a straightforward pick. Leeds take on Sheffield Wednesday followed by Norwich City, both at Elland Roadl and it is hard to see either side truly challenge this Leeds side, especially in front of their home faithful.
DEFENDERS
The first of the defensive selections is with Harrogate Town’s Anthony O’Connor (D). His previous displays speak for themselves with the defender racking up a considerable 40 points in his last four outings. His side host two consecutive home ties in Gameweek 24, with Cheltenham Town up first followed by Colchester United and if the FDR is an indicator then the defender could be well on for a sizable haul in this Double Gameweek. For that reason, he also takes the armband for me this week!
Alongside him I have opted for my second Leeds United asset in Jayden Bogle (D). It is a tough decision when backing against the Whites defensive assets, simply because of the significant returns that they have all managed this season. I would’ve gone for Pascal Struijk (D), but given his injury, the attacking upside of Bogle is too appealing to ignore. He’s banked 156 points in 24 and provided an assist last time out.
Finally, QPR’s resurgence hinges on defensive stalwart Jimmy Dunne (D), who boasts 164 Fantasy EFL points and looms large in their Double Gameweek against struggling Plymouth Argyle and Hull City. With favourable fixtures and a penchant for attacking contributions – four goals and two assists – Dunne is a prime candidate for another double-digit haul. He offers clean sheet potential, defensive returns, and even offensive upside.
MIDFIELDERS
First up in the middle of the park is Milwall’s Casper De Norre (M). The Lions midfielder has a great reputation in Fantasy EFL courtesy of his impressive interception rate. He has amounted an incredible 45 interceptions (+90) this season, averaging 5.8 points per game. Two consecutive home ties against sides struggling towards the bottom end of the table: Hull City and Cardiff City, makes him even more of a favourable asset with the potential to add to his one goal (+6) and one assist (+3) this season.
Alongside him I have backed the increasingly popular Fantasy EFL asset, Middlesbrough’s Finn Azaz (M). Boro’s playmaker has been excellent for his side, especially in an attacking sense, racking up an outstanding 165 points, with the majority of them being thanks to his eight goals (+48) and ten assists (+30) this season. His side travel to Portsmouth in their opening tie of the Double Gameweek before returning back to the Riverside Stadium where they host WBA. I’m anticipating a double-digit haul.
FORWARD
Leading the line, I’ve opted for Watford’s Kwadwo Baah (F), a somewhat unconventional but potentially high-reward pick. While Vakoun Bayo (F) is the obvious attacking choice, Baah’s recent form has been electric. This differential pick could be the key to climbing the overall rankings, especially as manager Tom Cleverley seems to be favouring him as a starter. Watford face Derby County away and then host Preston North End, presenting ample opportunities for Baah to contribute significantly across both fixtures.
CLUB PICKS
My first club pick heavily echoes my player selections. Leeds United are backed, making it the third time I have selected them this season. I think two consecutive home ties, with favourable opponents would suggest they could be well on their way to the maximum 18 points if they can win, score 2+ goals and keep a clean sheet in both matches.
The same goes for my second club pick, Bolton Wanderers, who also have consecutive home ties, which also enables them the maximum of 18 points in this Gameweek. First up they host Cambridge United, followed by Charlton Athletic. Based on the FDR, these are winnable ties and as I am yet to back them, I am putting full faith in them for this Double Gameweek!
