STARTING SEVEN

GOALKEEPER
I think I’m going for Burnley man James Trafford (G) this week. So far, the Clarets have racked up a whopping 17 clean sheets. As their defenders lack any attacking threat, instead selecting their goalkeeper makes sense. Facing Sunderland (H) and Plymouth Argyle (A), I can see Trafford keeping a clean sheet in both.
DEFENDERS
Leeds United have a pair of home matches, making the Championship table-toppers one of the most appealing sides for investment. Whilst I’m interested in Jaydon Bogle (D), there’s a slight concern that he either won’t start both or will get injured in the process. For that reason, the penalty-taking Pascal Struijk (D) takes his place at the back.
One player I can’t go without is Harrogate Town’s Anthony O’Connor (D). The centre-back has produced a mind-blowing 297 clearances (+99) since the start of this season. Combine that with his clean sheet potential, I have myself an easy captaincy option.
Another who could be considered for both selection and captaincy is Wigan Athletic’s Will Aimson (D). He’s another one hoovering up additional points via defensive actions. In addition, the Latics face two of the league’s worst attacks, giving Aimson multiple routes to points.
MIDFIELDERS
As always, midfielders are tricky to pick, though I have settled for Ebou Adams (M). As well as bagging three goals in his previous seven matches, he tends to rake in interception points – eight from the latest three matches. Opponents Leeds love to dominate the ball, adding to the appeal.
Joining him, bordering between safe and underwhelming, is Josh Brownhill (M). He’s not the most consistent asset when it comes to attacking output or picking up additional points but he does bits of both, which could be vital across a Double Gameweek.
FORWARD
Meanwhile, the lack of viable forwards pushes me into backing Leeds’ Joel Piroe (F). The Dutchman should start both matches, based on question marks surrounding the minutes of his attacking team-mates. As an alternative, I also like QPR’s Michael Frey, who’ll be facing two poor backlines.
CLUB PICKS
I’m playing with fire this week, or at least it feels that way. Picking Leeds here will be the fourth occasion of doing so this season. By choosing them, it means it could only happen one more time. Then again, they are relentless at home and not backing them could bring trouble.
When making my second selection, I was very surprised to discover that I am yet to pick Sheffield United. I’m not sure how that’s happened but that, combined with fixtures, has me going for them.
CAPTAINCY
Finally, I’m not completely set on Struijk over Bogle. The latter can be one of the game’s most attacking defenders and could therefore do very well this week.
Midfield is far from set. If I prefer a punt on Burnley’s Zian Flemming – possibly starting up front again – then it’ll be Brownhill making way. And Piroe could still become Frey, in case I feel too over-reliant on Leeds.
