STARTING SEVEN

GOALKEEPER

Burnley have now managed seven consecutive clean sheets, so investing in their backline during the double is a must. Considering they have two very nice fixtures from an attacking perspective, I think a defensive double-up could be limiting. For that reason, and the lack of convincing Burnley defenders, I’m going for James Trafford (G).

DEFENDERS

Yet again, there seem to be several nice defenders to pick from this week. Leeds also have a good double from an attacking perspective but hedging my bets and backing a Whites defender, especially when they have impressed defensively as of late, could be a good move. There aren’t many options who I think are nailed for two returns this week, so I think backing Jayden Bogle (D), who has multiple routes to points, may be the right play for the captaincy armband.

QPR have two tough fixtures, which I think plays into the hands of Jimmy Dunne (D). Dunne, as well as popping up with a goal every so often, tends to bring in points from defensive actions, so has multiple avenues to points.

Filling up my third defender slot, I’ve decided on Oxford’s Ciaran Brown (D). Oxford have managed two clean sheets in their previous three matches, showing considerable improvements at the back. Brown also ranks as one of the highest-scoring defenders among doubling defenders, mostly due to his additional defensive action points. An example of that is his recent efforts – securing nine points for clearances and tackles in his previous two matches alone.

MIDFIELDERS

I have also been considering Josh Brownhill (M), ahead of Burnley’s double against two ropey defences. However, based on the fact he’s been playing out of position, and has produced two braces within the previous four games in all competitions, Zian Flemming (M) gets the edge this week. Brownhill has also been coming off early recently, so if he hasn’t got the safety of minutes as well as lack of goal threat, it feels like he’s running out of reasons to back him.

Coventry are clearly picking up form recently, winning all three of their previous matches. Among the success for Frank Lampard’s men is Victor Torp (M), who has banked two goals and one assist in his last two matches. I would also consider Jack Rudoni (M), but he has been slightly disappointing this season.

FORWARD

Leeds are the top-scoring side in the Championship, so backing them offensively could be seen as a shoo-in this week. Impressing as of late is of course Manor Solomon (F). Solomon has managed at least one goal contribution in four of his last five matches.

CLUB PICKS

We are finally here: the final time I can pick Leeds in my team selections! Looking ahead at the schedule, Leeds double several more times this season, but what I did notice is that there are some great alternative teams with doubles in the same weeks. This week Leeds are a clear standout, with a very limited team pool with doubles to choose from. For that reason, I fully accept this will be the last time I pick them.

It’s also the fourth time I’m picking Burnley. They face two very inconsistent sides, so avoiding them also seems unwise. I expect at least three wins from these two sides this week.
