Fantasy EFL Double Gameweek 28 has seen 75 goals scored in 36 matches across three divisions, and we’ve still got 12 matches in store as 22 sides feature twice this week!

Here are the top lessons we’ve learned from Double Gameweek 28’s action across the three divisions. Please note that this will mainly focus on the teams playing twice, with a short section mentioning those that featured once.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 28: CHAMPIONSHIP

Millwall held by the Baggies

Jake Cooper (D) scored his third goal of the season (+7) in 22 appearances for the Lions and banked 12 points for 0.5% of managers through other defensive contributions also, opening the scoring at The Den. However, an own goal from Joe Bryan (D) levelled the scoring for the visitors and the match. Femi Azeez (M) banked his sixth assist for the goal and now has 11 points in two games.

Up next, Millwall face PNE (A) and will be hoping to do the double over the Lilywhites.

Luton’s miseries continue

The ‘new manager bounce’ for Matt Bloomfield feels short-lived, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United, with Anel Ahmedhodzic (D) scoring the only goal and nailing 15 points for 13.6%. He now has goals in back-to-back games for the Blades and is in top form. There was very little to cheer about for Fantasy managers – Elijah Adebayo (F), backed by 5.7%, blanked, while Alfie Doughty (M), returned five points for one interception (+2) and two key passes (+1).

The Hatters now find themselves bottom of the Championship and are three points adrift of safety, losing four of their last five games. They’ve got a huge six-pointer on Wednesday night, as they welcome Plymouth Argyle to Kenilworth Road. Despite having an impressive team on paper, they’ve only scored 30 goals in 32 games – the lowest rate of any side in the division.

Plymouth’s impressive run is ended

The Pilgrims were on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions, including a historic 1-0 win over Liverpool (H) in the FA Cup and a 5-1 win over Millwall (H). However, Miron Muslic’s side were defeated 2-0 by Blackburn Rovers (A). Tyrhys Dolan (M) wrote the headlines for the hosts, providing both goal contributions (+9) and further attacking returns (+2) to bank 13 points for 0.3%. The only visiting player who had something to cheer from a Fantasy perspective was Victor Pálsson (D), who continued his impressive form and banked six points through clearances and tackles.

A win for Plymouth could see them leapfrog Hull and Derby into 21st, one point clear of relegation. All eyes will be on Kenilworth Road.

Off-field issues dominate in Deepdale

Burnley recorded their 24th clean sheet of the campaign, drawing 0-0 with PNE (A). They are now three clean sheets off Wigan’s record, and haven’t conceded in 1,000 minutes, keeping 11 clean sheets in a row! From a Fantasy perspective, Ryan Porteous (D) was the standout for the hosts, banking 11 points for 0.1% – credit to those who selected him! Since joining, the centre-back has nailed 20 points in two matches and is already proving his worth in Paul Heckingbottom’s side. As expected, all defensive assets from both clubs scored well.

However, the Football Association is investigating allegations of racial abuse involving Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri (M) and Milutin Osmajic (F). This incident has dominated headlines, but the outcome of the investigation is yet to be announced.

PNE will be hoping to make it three games unbeaten when they face Millwall at Deepdale on Tuesday.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 28: LEAGUE ONE

Burton Albion slip up

Gary Bowyer’s side had gone six games unbeaten and are dreaming of a late escape from relegation. However, they were defeated 3-1 by Bristol Rovers (A), who ended their impressive run.

Rovers’ Chris Martin (F) was excellent for the Gas in their 3-1 win over Burton (H). The striker scored once (+5) and provided two assists (+6), as well as other attacking returns, to net 14 points for very few managers. Fábio Tavares (F) featured as a substitute for the visitors and did bag the equaliser in the 82nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to hang on. Ryan Sweeney (D) provided the assist and secured five points for 0.3%. Although big things were expected from the lethal duo in recent weeks, Rumarn Burrell (F) and Jon Bodvarsson (F) both blanked.

The Brewers will be aiming to secure their sixth win of the season when they face Stevenage (A) on Tuesday.

Goals galore at Bloomfield Road

Mansfield ended their six-match losing streak with a 3-3 draw away at Blackpool, although may feel disappointed given the circumstances.

Following Sonny Carey’s (M) opener for the hosts, Keanu Baccus (F) and Will Evans (F) provided a quickfire double to fire the Stags 1-2 ahead. Lucas Akins (F) joined in on the act in the 64thminute to make it 1-3 – Baccus banked 11 points for his efforts in front of goal, while Evans and Akins nailed eight and seven. However, the Seasiders also scored two goals in six minutes to seal a point for Steve Bruce’s side.

Nigel Clough’s team continue to seek their first win in seven games, hoping it’ll come against Lincoln City (H).

Wrexham close the gap on Wycombe Wanderers

The Red Dragons bagged their fifth win in 14 games away from home, and their second consecutive victory, with a 0-2 success over Northampton Town. They are now just two points off Wycombe [60]

January signing Sam Smith (F) and Oliver Rathbone (M) both got on the scoresheet in the first half to seal the three points for Phil Parkinson’s side. Rathbone was one of four players to nail 10 points, alongside Lewis Brunt (D), Mark Howard (G) and Eoghan O’Connell (D). Both defenders contributed as expected, while Howard provided an assist to the opening goal (+3) – his first attacking return this season. Notably, Max Cleworth (D), backed by 8.1%, returned six points and would’ve scored seven had he not been booked.

Up next, Wrexham welcome Leyton Orient to STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday, hoping to bank their 13th home win of the campaign.

Wycombe return to unbeaten ways

The 19-game streak under Matt Bloomfield in 2024 was highly commendable, and the Chairboys make it five unbeaten with a 1-1 draw at Crawley Town.

Sonny Bradley (D) maintained his top form for the visitors and secured eight points for 0.1%. The centre-back made 18 clearances (+6), taking his season total to 111, and is yet to blank for Wycombe. Daniel Udoh (F) scored the equaliser, his first goal since Gameweek 12. Unfortunately for 5.1%, talisman Richard Kone (F) missed his second consecutive game through injury and thus blanked.

Despite being without their star striker and with no news on his return, Wycombe will host Bristol Rovers at Adams Park on Tuesday, hoping to maintain their top-two position.

Matt Bloomfield at Luton: what can Fantasy EFL managers expect? 1

Stevenage held by the Posh

The iffy run continued for Alex Revell’s side as they drew 1-1 with Peterborough United following a three-game win streak. They’ve lost two and drawn this in their last three and are nine points off the play-offs.

In terms of things to cheer on Fantasy, Daniel Kemp (M) scored his fifth goal in seven games for Boro and made one interception to nail 10 points for 1%. Midfield partners Eli King (M) and Jordan Roberts (M) also scored eight points for their efforts. Although selected by 9%, Carl Piergianni (D) only secured four for six clearances, having the lockout wiped out by Cian Hayes (M).

They’ve now only kept one clean sheet in five and will be hoping to rectify that against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Leyton Orient win at home again

Richie Wellens’ side secured a 3-2 win over Lincoln City at Gaughan Group Stadium. Sonny Perkins (F) scored a first-half brace to return 13 points for 0% of managers – his first goal(s) since Gameweek 20. Elsewhere, Ethan Galbraith (M) made it back-to-back 14-point hauls for 0.4% – credit to those who selected him! The number 22 provided a hat-trick of assists, one interception (+2) and three key passes (+1), taking his total to 10 goal contributions in 27 matches for the O’s. On the other hand, the only other player who nailed double digits was Lincoln’s Lewis Montsma (D), who made the score 2-1 and made defensive contributions throughout to return 12 points. Charlie Kelman (F), who scored the stoppage-time winner for the hosts to return eight points for 0.3%, now has 15 goal contributions in 30.

The O’s travel to Wrexham and hope to upset their fairytale story in League One so far.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 28: LEAGUE TWO

AFC Wimbledon go 10 unbeaten

Matt Stevens (F) scored (+5) his 16th goal in 30 matches for the Dons as they overcame Salford City 1-0 (H), returning seven points for 7.2%. Johnnie Jackson’s side secured their 10th home clean sheet of the campaign, which saw Owen Goodman (G) bag nine points. However, Ryan Johnson (D) continued his standout form and nailed 10 points for 1% through defensive efforts. He now has 170 points in 27 games – the most of any Dons player.

The win saw them leapfrog Bradford City into second place in League Two. Now, they take on 14th-placed Fleetwood Town (A) on Tuesday.

Grimsby end record form against Donny

Doncaster Rovers suffered a disappointing 1-2 defeat at home to Grimsby Town, despite a previously strong record against the Mariners.

A bright spot for the 17.7% of Fantasy managers who selected him was Luke Molyneux’s (M) six-point return, which included an assist. He would have earned seven points were it not for a booking. This was only Doncaster’s fourth home loss in 16 games, putting extra pressure on their upcoming Tuesday fixture against Morecambe (A) to maintain their play-off gap. Grimsby’s Harvey Rodgers (D) was the highest scorer on either side with eight points, but no player managed to reach double figures.

Morecambe triumph in front of home faithful

The Shrimps faced 21st-placed and Lancashire rivals Accrington Stanley (H) in a huge six-pointer. Those who put their trust in Derek Adams’ side were rewarded nine points after their 2-0 win!

Fantasy EFL Double Gameweek 28: Scout Notes

Lee Hendrie (D) shone as the Fantasy star, providing an assist for the opening goal and helping ensure the shutout was maintained, scoring 11 points. Liverpool loanee Rhys Williams (D) also impressed, scoring 10 points for his efforts and contributing to their fourth clean sheet of the season. They were then just two points off 22nd-placed Tranmere Rovers and could potentially leap out of the relegation spots with a win over Donny on Tuesday.

SINGLE GAMEWEEK NOTES

Elsewhere, Birmingham City’s Jay Stansfield (F) scored his 16th goal in 23 matches, helping Birmingham City defeat Charlton Athletic 1-0 and continue their unbeaten home form. Blues face Reading (A) and Leyton Orient (H) in Double Gameweek 29.

Watford won their fourth away game in 17 attempts with a 0-1 victory over Middlesbrough. Three players scored double digits, including Imran Louza (M), who provided the assist to the winning goal and is in good form. Up next, the Hornets take on local rivals Watford at Vicarage Road in Double Gameweek 29.

Stoke City made it two wins in three games with a 3-1 victory over Swansea City (H). Wouter Burger (M), Bae Jun-Ho (M) and Lewis Baker (M) all got on the scoresheet with 12, 10 and nine points respectively.

Ellis Simms (F) fired a brace in for Coventry City at Hillsborough to return 12 points for 5% and send the Sky Blues within one point off the play-offs, defeating Sheffield Wednesday 1-2.

Cheltenham Town made it three home wins in a row with a 3-2 win over Barrow. Matty Taylor (F) scored a 10-minute brace off the bench to return 12 points for the hosts, while Sam Foley (M) also scored 12 with a goal and two interceptions.
