Fantasy EFL Double Gameweek 29 has seen 92 goals scored in 36 matches across three divisions and we’ve still got nine encounters left.
Here are the top lessons we’ve learned from Double Gameweek 29’s action. Please note that this will mainly focus on the teams playing twice.
DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 29: CHAMPIONSHIP
Hull City have a blinder
The Tigers ended Sunderland’s unbeaten home record in the Championship, securing three vital points in a 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light.
Anthony Patterson’s (G) mistake from a corner saw the ball slip through his hands as Joe Gelhardt (F) fired in the set-piece, which was his second goal contribution in six games.
However, Sean McLoughlin (D) was the Fantasy standout, making 10 clearances (+3) and helping them to a fifth clean sheet. All their defensive assets benefitted from the shut-out. Despite having 17 shots and two clear-cut chances, Regis Le Bris’ side lost two consecutive games for the first time this season.
Hull are now three points clear of the drop zone and travel to 21st-placed Cardiff City tonight. A massive six-pointer is in store.
Cardiff held by the Pilgrims
Speaking of the Bluebirds, they were held to a 1-1 draw at relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle but it could prove to be a vital point.
Yousef Salech (F) scored his third goal (+5) in seven games to bank eight points for 0.1%. However, Dimitrios Goutas’s (D) second-half red card for a last-man challenge proved to be a turning point. Momentum shifted, allowing substitute Muhamed Tijani (F) to equalise.
Against the Tigers, Cardiff will be looking for revenge after their 4-1 loss in September’s reverse meeting.
Things go from bad to worse at Boro
Is the pressure piling on Michael Carrick? Middlesbrough lost 2-1 at Bristol City and have lost five games in a row, sitting 13th in the table, seven points off the play-offs.
George Earthy (M) made a huge impact off the bench for the Robins, scoring twice and registering two shots on target for a total of 14 points in just 27 minutes. Despite Earthy’s heroics, it was Tommy Conway (F) who opened the scoring (+5) for Boro, assisted by January signing Kelechi Iheanacho (F).
They need to bounce back quickly when facing Stoke City (A).
Stoke lose at Carrow Road

The Potters have just lost 4-2 at Norwich City where the home side moved up to 10th, three points from the play-off spots.
Josh Sargent (F) was their standout, scoring a vital brace to bag 13 points for 3.7% – meaning it’s 16 goal contributions in 20. Borja Sainz‘s (F) assist brought his first attacking contribution since Gameweek 22.
However, plaudits must be given to Stoke’s Lewis Baker (M), who banked a 17-point haul for 0%. He netted twice, made one interception (+2) and shot twice on target to see him maintain his impressive form.
Mark Robins’ side will be hoping to make it five unbeaten when hosting Middlesbrough. Although they currently sit 19th on 35 points, a victory could put them eight clear of Plymouth.
DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 29: LEAGUE ONE
Barnsley defeat local rivals
South Yorkshire derby day went the way of the Tykes, defeating Rotherham United in a 1-0 away victory.
Captain Adam Phillips (M) scored from the penalty spot (+6) and made defensive and offensive efforts throughout to nail 12 points for 1.5%. Popular pick Davis Keillor-Dunn (M) provided the assist, bringing five points to continue his impressive form.
Defensively, James Earl (D), Marc Roberts (D), Corey O’Keeffe (D) and Maël de Gevigney (D) were all excellent and banked 10+ points for their efforts at the back, keeping a sixth clean sheet of the campaign.
Darrell Clarke’s side are 10th in the table, seven points away from play-offs and get to face 17th-placed Northampton Town (A) tonight.
Latics secure valuable point at Adams Park
Wigan Athletic banked their 12th clean sheet in 31 games while securing an impressive point away at Wycombe Wanderers. The definition of ‘defensive masterclass’ comes to mind.
The Chairboys had 12 shots on target but couldn’t get past Sam Tickle (G), who made three saves (+2) to secure nine points for 2%. Jason Kerr (D) was the Fantasy standout, making 12 clearances (+4) and two blocks (+2) to bring 12 points to 0.4%.
Will Aimson (D) wasn’t far behind with his own 11, while Jon Mellish (D) banked 10. It was the first clean sheet in five for Shaun Maloney’s lot, putting a slight dent in Wycombe’s promotion hopes.
Tuesday pits them against fifth-placed Huddersfield Town (H), aiming to win for the first time since Gameweek 25.
Birmingham continue unbeaten run

The Blues made it 16 unbeaten with a hard-fought 0-0 away at Reading, ensuring they are six points clear at the top.
Scott Wright (F) was unfortunately subbed off early in the game due to a twisted knee, likely caused by the poor pitch conditions. This was bad luck for the few managers that had selected him for their Fantasy team.
On a brighter note, Ben Davies (D) was the only player from the Blues to score 10 Fantasy points. He achieved this by making nine clearances, contributing to Birmingham’s impressive 15th shutout of the season under manager Chris Davies.
In a surprising turn of events, Alfie May (F) – expected to fill in for the injured Jay Stansfield (F) – was benched for Lyndon Dykes (F). This decision was unexpected and left 25.4% of managers disappointed, as May only made a brief 29-minute appearance to reach a mere one point.
Birmingham next face Leyton Orient, hoping to win their 13th home game in 16 attempts. As it stands, their unbeaten record at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park remains intact.
Huddersfield shocker
Meanwhile, the Terriers were dealt a play-off blow by losing 1-0 to relegation-threatened Peterborough United at John Smith’s Stadium.
Hector Kyprianou (M) scoring just before half-time proved to be the difference, banking 10 points. Tayo Edun (D) assisted him, helping Darren Ferguson’s side to only their third clean sheet, securing 12 points.
Sam Hughes (D) and Oscar Wallin (D) both returned double-digits from this shut-out. However, the hosts were without vital 3.4% central defender Tom Lees (D), who will be absent for the foreseeable future. Their next task is visiting Wigan, who they defeated 1-0 in December.
O’s lose to Trotters
Leyton Orient’s three-match winning run came to an end with a 2-1 loss at Bolton Wanderers. Charlie Kelman (F) scored just before half-time to fire the visitors ahead but John McAtee (F) equalised to reach 11 goal contributions in 31 outings.
Then, after being awarded a penalty, Aaron Morley (M) scored from the spot to nail 10 points for 0.1% – credit to those who selected him!
Richie Wellens’ side travel to St. Andrew’s and will be hoping to upset the Blues.
DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 29: LEAGUE TWO
Sarcevic continues to deliver for Bantams

Antoni Sarcevic (M) has been in excellent recent form and scored a brace here, making it 11 goal contributions in 17. For 0.7% of managers, he produced 17 points and it’s his second double-digit return in five games. His goals helped Bradford City to a 2-0 win over MK Dons, and defenders Aden Baldwin (D) and Callum Johnson (D) also secured 10 points for the shutout and contributions.
The Bantams have now won nine games at home in a row and are still in the hunt for automatic promotion, sitting level on points with AFC Wimbledon. On Tuesday, they travel to Hayes Lane to take on Bromley.
Bromley go four unbeaten
But it won’t be easy, as the Ravens have won three consecutive matches. Michael Cheek (F) scored a great header to bank 10 points for 6.8% and he also provided an assist. It moves him to 16 goals and three assists in 31, totalling 151 points.
Jude Arthurs (M) scored the other goal, one of three players to return a dozen points alongside Ayodeji Elerewe (D) and Byron Webster (D).
Andy Woodman’s side will want revenge on Bradford, after their 3-1 loss in August.
Walsall extend lead at the top
The Sadlers are now eight points clear after beating 23rd-placed Morecambe 2-0.
A shut-out and defensive contributions for David Okagbue (D) delivered 11 points for 2.2% of managers. Ryan Stirk (M) provided an assist and added defensive returns, with Oisin McEntee (D) securing 10 points for the first time this season.
Furthermore, Taylor Allen (M) scored to make it made it six goals and nine assists in 31. This is from a centre-back! The only disappointment was Jamille Matt (F), who blanked for 1.1%.
Walsall visit Cheltenham Town tonight hoping to make it four unbeaten.
Cod Army lose to Mariners
Finally, despite Grimsby Town defeating his Fleetwood Town side 2-1, James Bolton (D) still returned four points for 2.5% due to 10 clearances and other efforts. It would’ve been five had he not received a yellow card. Up next, Fleetwood face Gillingham (A).
