ACCRINGTON STANLEY – @acrosspitch / in house experts
Prospects this season
“Cautiously optimistic, survival is the first goal but mid-table would be nice.”
John Doolan had a disappointing first full season with the club as Accrington finished 21st in League Two. The club have not finished above 17th after being relegated to League Two in 2023. This is coming from fundamental problems in both attack and defence and there have been no significant signings to rectify these issues. 24-year-old Isaac Sinclair (M) seems to be the most impactful signing as he will be the starting attacking midfielder for the Reds. Accrington should be hoping for anything but relegation, with any concept of the play-offs definitely being a long shot.
Top-three assets
“Ben Woods (M), Tyler Walton (M) and Shaun Whalley (F).”
BARNET – @james_harpin
Prospects this season
“We head into the 2025‑26 campaign riding high after winning the 2024–25 National League with 102 points, showing dominant form and momentum. The mood among fans and the squad is optimistic, we seem to be regarded among several pre‑season previews as promotion hopefuls in League Two and seen as one of the strongest newly promoted sides thanks to smart recruitment and stability under Dean Brennan. The aim has to be to consolidate in League Two with ambitions of pushing for play offs or at least a top‑half finish.”
Top-three assets
- Callum Stead (F): 20 goals last season as a number 10.
- Danny Collinge (D): Great goalscoring record for a centre-back.
- Anthony Hartigan (M) – Set-piece wizard.
BARROW – @BirdsOfBlue1990
Prospects this season
“The mood around the club is fantastic at the moment. We have made some very good signings, and aiming to progress from the finish last season. Trying finish top-10 or even push for top-seven if possible with the signings we have made”
Top-three assets
“My top-three in order would be Innes Cameron (F), Ben Jackson (D) and Rakeem Harper (M).”
BRISTOL ROVERS – @FFJacob_
Prospects this season
“Despite relegation last season, there is a really good feeling around the club right now. With Darrell Clarke at the helm and a few key additions, I believe our squad right now is already better than the team that ended last season. I expect us to have a really good campaign and finish in or around the automatic promotion places in League Two. Macauley Southam-Hales (D) looks to be a top-signing at wing-back, although losing James Wilson (D) was a blow.”
Top-three assets
- Connor Taylor (D) – By far the most nailed defender for Bristol Rovers. He picked up 300 clearances, 64 tackles and 35 blocks last season. Furthermore, clean sheets will come more often for Rovers, which makes him an even better pick.
- Promise Omochere (F) – Will likely lead the line. Despite being out for most of last season due to injury, he still picked up seven goal involvements in a poor Gas side.
- Kamil Conteh (M) – Arguably the side’s best midfielder. He picks up a lot of interceptions (26 interceptions in his 19 appearances last season).
Favourite fixture run
“We haven’t got a ‘red’ fixture between Gameweeks 5 to 10. During that period, we face Newport at Rodney Parade and Barrow at home. Furthermore, between Gameweeks 34 and 39, we only have one ‘red’ fixture. Rovers’ assets will be popular during this time due to fixtures against Accrington, Harrogate and Tranmere and Cheltenham.”
BROMLEY – @bromleywithlove
Prospects this season
“Led by Andy Woodman who demands success every season – last season he was disappointed that his newly promoted side only finished 11th. There is no doubt he will be pushing his Bromley side to finish in the play-offs this season. That seems like a high bar but that is how he operates.”
Top-three assets
“Michael Cheek (F), Mitch Pinnock (M) and Omar Sowunmi (D) are our best players to target.”
CAMBRIDGE UNITED – @Goooolazzo
Prospects this season
“It’s a little mixed at the moment across the fan base. There is a general sense of relief that we are no longer in League One after a couple of tough seasons and feeling that we are now at the level we should be currently, but also a feeling that we haven’t addressed the top end of the pitch with a striker a massive need with the season now underway.”
Top-three assets
“Sullay Kaikai (F) and Ben Knight (M) are our main source for goals. Liam Bennett (D) will be looking to get back to his best as an attacking full-back.”
CHELTENHAM TOWN – @TristanDayCTFC
Prospects this season
“After reconciling a 15th-placed finish last season after relegation from League One, there could have been a case for optimism, especially with our pending new ownership at the club for us this season. However, with the lack of signings so far, the optimism is dwindling and therefore it is difficult to predict anything other than a 15th-18th league position as of now.
Top-three assets
- Ethon Archer (M): 90-minute man who’s versatility means he can play anywhere across the front line. An impressive seven goals, ten assists in FEFL last season
- Jordan Thomas (M): Cheltenham’s best player. Started to take set pieces towards the end of the season, including a penalty towards the end of the year. 14 goal contributions last season
- Robbie Cundy (D): Could have easily been George Miller (F), however I have opted for the defender due to his impressive stature and the nature of which we play. He looks likely to gain lots of points through contribution points
Favourite fixture run
“GW4-9 offers plenty of promise for the Robins with no “red fixtures” and four out of the six games at home, in which Cheltenham pick up the majority of their points. Targeting home fixtures for the Robins is something to take into account, as our away form can be inconsistent at best.”
CHESTERFIELD – @spirestats
Prospects this season
“Currently really positive, had a pretty ambitious transfer window and will be aiming for one of the top-three spots for automatic promotion, or at least the play-offs in my opinion.”
Top-three assets
“Safe picks are probably Armando Dobra (F), Dilan Markanday (F) and Chey Dunkley (D).”
COLCHESTER UNITED – @MattCUFC
Prospects this season
“After a slow start to last season, Danny and Nicky Cowley will want to start positively, the same way we finished the 24/25 season. Finishing 10th with a shout of the play-offs right until the end of the season was not something fans would have predicted before the half way point of the season.
It will be vital to keep Jack Payne (M) fit, he is able to unlock defences at this level and his enthusiasm provides the team a lift. Being named amongst the best players in League Two last season speaks volumes. Lyle Taylor (F) will be a big miss should he not sign, his goals and experience played a huge part in the club’s turnaround.
Despite the cut budget and minimal signings in the transfer window, I expect a play off push however I feel with the lack of depth in certain areas we may fall short. I predict ninth-place.”
Top-three assets
- Jack Payne (M): Our key player last season making 42 appearances in the league alone. Eight goals with 15 assists is a fantastic contribution. I think Jack would aim for 10 goals minimum this season.
- Matt Macey (G): A brilliant first season with 46 appearances with 21 clean sheets in return.
- Owura Edwards (M): although he scored just seven goals with four assists, Owura’s main threat is his direct running at defenders. An improvement on last seasons’ contribution is a must.
Favourite fixture run
“I think the first month holds difficult fixtures. The Christmas and New Year period will be crucial. Starting with Newport County (H) on the 20th December to Milton Keynes (H) on the 1st January will provide clarity which side of the table we will finish in what is an unpredictable season in League Two – Gameweeks 21 to 23.”
CRAWLEY TOWN – @CTSASimplyRedz
Prospects this season
“I think it is fairly positive around the club. There has been a change in ownership which is great news and we have signed some good players, without letting too many leave. Hopefully we can have a promotion or play-off push!”
Top-three assets
“I don’t think you will go wrong with Charlie Barker (D) in defence or Kyle Scott (M). I hope Harry McKirdy (F) will score those points for your teams!”
CREWE ALEXANDRA – @crewemainstand
Prospects this season
“The mood around the club is very cautiously optimistic after tailing off towards the end of the the last two seasons. Fresh blood has arrived via summer signings and key contract renewals hitting the right notes in terms of a rebuilding, squad that blends maturing academy graduates and promising additions.”
Top-three assets
- Mickey Demetriou (D): First name on the team sheet, started his career off as a striker and knows where the goal is from set pieces. His long throw ins into the box are always a threat and I’m sure he will grab some throw assist points on top of his already overpowered clearance numbers.
- Jack Lankester (M) / Matúš Holíček (M): I’ve picked two here, not sorry. Both players are midfield workhorses and always looking to get the ball forward and start the attack. Lankester was top goal scorer and Holíček had a number of assists.
- Emre Tezgel (F): Loan striker who will be hoping his time at Crewe will springboard him into the sights of teams higher up the division.
FLEETWOOD TOWN – @jkanalysis7
Prospects this season
“Current mood is great. Got a great midfield trio, one of the best strikers, if not the best in the division & our manager is much better. Our aim ahead of the season is without doubt play-offs.”
Top-three assets
“Denver Hume (D), Matty Virtue (M) and Ryan Graydon (F).”
GILLINGHAM – @MichaelNormNorm
Prospects this season
“After two failed promotion attempts, Gillingham will want to push for promotion and have the squad that is more than capable of winning the play-offs. I therefore expect them to achieve at least a top-seven spot.
Sam Vokes (F) and Seb Palmer-Holden (F) were signed to bolster the attack alongside retaining most of our squad from the previous season, including set-piece taker Max Clark (D) and interception machine Sam Gale (M).”
Top-three assets
- Max Clark (D): On set pieces and has scored 3 goals and 6 assists in 43 games last season
- Sam Gale (M): 41 interceptions in 22 games last season
- Glenn Morris (GK): Number one, 13 clean sheets in 36 appearances
Favourite fixture run
“We have ‘easy’ fixtures from Gameweeks 15 to 20 playing Bristol Rovers, Crawley, Barnet, Shrewsbury, Colchester and Barrow and I believe this is our most crucial period if we want to secure a play-off finish.”
GRIMSBY TOWN – @3Fishontheshirt
Prospects this season
“Extremely positive. A decent spine of players on the retained list bolstered by some great additions in the summer has maintained the fans optimism. Last seasons ninth-placed finish and only missing out on play-offs on the last day against Wimbledon has set expectation high this year with the goal that the Mariners go one better by getting into the playoffs at least.”
Top-three assets
“Got a great feeling about Jaze Kabia (M). Danny Rose (F) is always a threat, and George McEachran (M) in midfield for interceptions.”
HARROGATE TOWN – @RakzCameInHello
Prospects this season
“The club is in limbo. We did have a poor pre-season, no hiding from that – some fans see this as a reason for concern and worry ahead of the new season. Others, like myself, don’t view it as a reliable metric of performance at this level. A great start to the season with an opening day win nonetheless.”
Top-three assets
- Anthony O’Connor (D): Great FEFL campaign last season for his clearances and blocks, I’m expecting the same
- Ellis Taylor (M): Will be pivotal in almost every goal we score, no matter how little number that may be this season. his passing range and pace is lethal, can also be deployed centrally.
- Tom Cursons (F): Good option if we change attacking-play styles this season.
MK DONS – @MkDonsHub04
Prospects this season
“I would say the mood has improved massively, especially after Warne has come in. The main aim is automatic promotion.”
Top-three assets
“Aaron Collins (F) would be a great pick due to the amount of goals he scored in the division above. Craig MacGillvray (G) is a solid keeper and I would expect him to keep plenty of clean sheets next season. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (F) I expect to have a great season and get plenty of goal contributions.“
NEWPORT COUNTY – @NCAFCThoughts
Prospects this season
“The current mood around the club is mixed and probably sways into pessimism. We’ve gradually slid down the table, from an 11th placed finish in 2022, to 15th, 18th and last season 22nd. There’s frustration at the lack of experienced signings, and a lot of worry about the prospect of relegation. The aim for most fans will be to survive but I actually think there’s enough quality to push towards mid table. A lack of goals will be our biggest concern.”
Top-three assets
“Our defence will likely be stronger than our attack, and we’ve looked solid at the back in pre-season. Nik Tzanev (G) in goal, and Matt Baker (D) who can also score a few. Bobby Kamwa (F) was incredible last season and although it remains to be seen how he handles moving from winger to striker, he’s worth a punt in some weeks.”
NOTTS COUNTY – @JoshHD15
Prospects this season
“The aim for this season has to be promotion taking into account we’ve lost ‘Didzy’. Play-offs are a minimum, but would love us to get top-three”.
Top assets
“Jodi Jones (F) 100% if fit will be our player of the season again. Alassana Jatta (F) if he remains at the club always starts well . I also think Conor Grant (M) could be a decent midfield asset this season.”
OLDHAM ATHLETIC – @oldhamfanmedia
Prospects this season
“Better than it’s been for a long time, after decades of mismanagement and decline were ended with our first trophy win and first promotion in 34 years. Back-to-back play-offs is probably a big ask after having such a short pre-season, we’d be happy with a top-half finish.”
Top-three assets
“Mike Fondop (F) up-front was last season’s top scorer, and with the defensive colossi of Manny Monthe (D) and Donervon Daniels (D), we’d expect to keep a fair few clean sheets.”
SALFORD CITY – @OneUpFrontSCFC
Prospects this season
“The mood amongst the fanbase is quite positive for this season. I think our supporters are enjoying the change to a more possession based playing style, and I believe the aim for the season is to aim for a play-off place at minimum.”
Top-three assets
“Matt Young (G) will help us earn a high number of clean sheets this season. I’d bank on Haji Mnoga (D) racking up a good number of assists from the right flank as he tends to operate quite up the pitch. And finally, I think we’re banking on the striker Jay Bird (F) to be our main source of goals this season.”
SHREWSBURY TOWN – @AnalysisShrews
Prospects this season
“The season will be a very interesting one for Shrewsbury Town. Fears of a double relegation were very real at the end of 2024/25, but several decent signings on paper – Tom Anderson (D), Will Boyle (D) and Sam Stubbs (D), to name three – have allayed those fears somewhat. A season challenging for the play-offs would be considered a success.”
Top-three assets
- John Marquis (F) – 12 goals last season in an abysmal side means he should have a shot at netting at least as many this year, in (hopefully) a more functional team and in a division lower.
- George Lloyd (F) – Almost certainly guaranteed to start up front with Marquis as things stand. Five goals last year are not outstanding, but netted 10 goal contributions in 21 games the last time he was in League Two.
- Tom Sang (D) – Will probably start the season, either at wing-back or centre-back, and ideally be a part of a solid defence with plenty of clean sheets. Should provide an attacking threat too with his dead-ball ability.
Favourite fixture run
“Early season looks good, with only one ‘red’ fixture out of the first six. Failing that, GW35-37 see four ‘green’ games in three Gameweeks.”
SWINDON TOWN – @stfcsam09
Prospects this season
“The mood around the club is very positive and expectations are high with the aim being automatic promotion with the club full of confidence from both players and fans. With a positive pre-season, the mood is constantly improving positively. Under manager Ian Holloway, we endeed the season only eight points of play-offs from a relegation looming start.”
Top-three assets
“Will Wright (D), Harry Smith (F) and Darren Oldaker (M) are all capable of returning highly for your teams.”
TRANMERE ROVERS – @thisistranmere
Prospects this season
“After a dreadful season last time around, Tranmere will be looking for a vast improvement in 2025/26. The end of last season and the summer signings have given supporters hope that it will be a much improved team this year, with the signings of the likes of Ethan Bristow (D), Charlie Whitaker (M) and Richie Smallwood (M) seemingly impressive. I’d be looking at a top-half finish, pushing for a play-off place.”
Top-three assets
- Luke McGee (GK): Good-shot stopper, making 111 saves in 46, alongside 12 clean sheets
- Charlie Whitaker (M): An attacking-midfielder who has impressed at previous clubs, will be crucial in our side
- Kristian Dennis (F): Will likely be on penalties if he gets a run in the team, the most natural finisher at the club and someone who did really well under Crosby at the end of last season.
Favourite fixture run
“Always hard to tell with teams in League Two but I like the look of our fixtures in December against some local rivals.”
WALSALL – @MattDVale
Prospects this season
“Are we the ‘best’ side not to get promoted last season or the side that only won three out of the last 21 games? As ever, it’s probably somewhere in-between. The incomings have been mainly players from non-league or free agents.
“Player of the Season Taylor Allen (D) is a prime example of Walsall’s policy of finding cheap talent, improving them and selling them on. Aaron Pressley (F) has been signed from Stevenage and will lead the line next season. Wxpect him to be amongst the goals as Walsall were the highest-scoring League Two team last season.”
Top-three assets
- Harrison Burke (D) – A new signing from Chester who scored 12 goals in 48 games last season and has already notched a pre-season winner against Aston Villa
- Evan Weir (D) – He’ll step into the position vacated by Allen and is expected to try to match Allen’s 18 goal contributions from last season. A sweet left foot, he’ll take a lot of corners and free-kicks – expect a number of assists
- Charlie Lakin (M) – Only scored twice last season but is another who might benefit from Allen’s departure. He’s expected to take over the role as Walsall’s penalty-taker.
Favourite fixture run
“Gameweeks 13 to 20 see Walsall face a number of the sides expected to struggle this season.”
