The season is in full swing, with 48 of the 72 clubs already having played in Fantasy EFL. Gameweek 2 promises to be an exciting one as the Championship returns to action, meaning all 72 clubs will be competing from Thursday – Sunday.

This Gameweek also gives managers their first real opportunity to strategise with the new One Club Chip.

Unlike the Max Captain Chip, which can be used twice, the One Club chip is a one-time-only game-changer. Given its single use and the potential for a massive points haul, choosing the right time to deploy this chip is a crucial decision in this 40-Gameweek season.

What is the One Club chip?

Introducing the One Club chip, a new addition to the season that lets you select an unlimited number of players from a single club. This chip overrides the usual two-player restriction, allowing for more strategic flexibility.

Unlike other chips, the One Club chip can be used at any point during the season.

You can activate this chip on the “My Team” tab by clicking the lightning bolt icon before the first match of the Gameweek begins.

You can also change your mind and reset the chip anytime before the Gameweek’s kick-off.

While the chip allows you to select as many players as you want from one club, you don’t have to put all your eggs in one basket.

You can mix and match players from different clubs to create your ideal lineup. For example, you could have:

  • Seven players from a single club.
  • Four players from one club and three from another.
  • Five players from one club and two from another.
  • Six players from one club and one from another.

How effective could the One Club chip be?

It’s hard to predict the long-term impact of a new feature, but early results are promising. We’ve already seen how stacking players from a single club can lead to huge Gameweek scores.

For instance, during Double Gameweek 25 last season, managers who invested in Burnley assets would have been handsomely rewarded. After a goalless draw against Sunderland (H), the Clarets thrashed Plymouth Argyle 5-0 away from home.

A lineup with defenders James Trafford (G), Maxime Esteve (D), CJ Egan-Riley (D), and Connor Roberts (D) would have racked up an incredible 40 points from clean sheets alone. This doesn’t even include Trafford’s two penalty saves, or any other returns points from the defenders.

Meanwhile, midfielders Zian Flemming (M) and Josh Laurent (M) also delivered significant returns, with both assets scoring two goals.

If this small sample is any indication, this new feature is going to shake things up!

Focusing on the upcoming doubles is a good strategy, as they offer the most opportunities for points.

Upside of playing it in a single Gameweek

As previously stated, many players will likely choose a pick in a Double Gameweek, since more points lead to more prizes.

Occasionally, a single game can result in a massive score, which significantly increases Fantasy returns.

Fantasy EFL Gameweek 39: Scout Notes 1

For example, in February 2025, Leeds United defeated Cardiff City 7-0. Six different players scored goals and three provided assists.

Dan James (M) had three goal contributions, Junior Firpo (D) provided a hat-trick of assists, and Joel Piroe (F) scored twice.

While we don’t have access to the exact fantasy data from that specific match, we can make an estimation based on the latest game updates.

If a manager had selected all the aforementioned players, along with Illan Meslier (G), Joe Rodon (D), and Ao Tanaka (G), their team would have scored a minimum of 74 points.

Gameweek 2 potential

One of the most obvious standouts for the upcoming weeks, Leicester City host Sheffield Wednesday in Gameweek 2 for Sunday’s blockbuster in the Championship.

Despite being relegated, the Foxes are strong contenders in the Championship, led by new manager Martí Cifuentes.

The team had a solid pre-season and has retained key players like Bilal El Khannouss (M) and Abdul Fatawu (F) at present.

In contrast, the Owls are in disarray. The club has faced multiple issues this off-season, including delayed wages for players and staff, registration embargoes, and the departure of manager Danny Röhl.

The EFL has even expressed doubts about the club’s ability to fulfill its fixtures.

Even with captain Barry Bannan (M) signing a new contract, the Owls currently have only 15 first-team players. Given all this turmoil, now seems like the perfect time to back against them:

Double Gameweek conundrum

When using the One Chip, it’s crucial to avoid selecting players who might be rotated.

While this can be difficult to predict, certain teams are more likely to have a stable starting lineup than others. You’ll be able to identify these teams once the season begins.

Unlike the Max Captain chip, which automatically chooses your highest-scoring player, the One Chip offers no safety net. If your selected players blank, are rotated, or don’t score as hoped, those points are lost permanently.

This is a significant risk, especially compared to a regular Gameweek, where you can see the starting lineups and make last-minute adjustments.

We have no doubt there will be opportunities for massive scores, such as Leeds’ masterclass against Cardiff last season, these are rare.

This strategy – targeting a single Gameweek – reduces the risk, while still offering the potential for a large point haul.

One Club chip conclusion

We feel the most effective strategy is to initially target Double Gameweeks, particularly when “big clubs” have two home matches.

In total, managers can look forward to 16 scheduled Doubles. This will undoubtedly increase, just like it did last season.

Leicester players could be great assets for Gameweek 2, but there are some risks. Since it’s their first game, we might see some player rotation. Plus, rumours that key players could be leaving might limit their time on the field.

It’s also worth remembering that single Gameweek teams rarely outscore Doubles.

In Double Gameweek 19, every Championship team plays twice, presenting a huge opportunity for high scores. Here are some of the “big clubs” that have the advantage of playing both of their matches at home:

  • Ipswich Town: Coventry City (H), Stoke City (H)
  • Sheffield United: Stoke City (H), Norwich City (H)
  • Southampton: Birmingham City (H), WBA (H)

Moreover, with managers holding out hope for a Triple Gameweek, the upside could be enormous.

Unless you’re certain a single Gameweek side will produce a monster score from multiple players, it’s best to wait for a Double.

For now, hold off until the transfer window closes. After the transfer window closes and squads are finalised, we’ll have a much clearer picture of how the seasons for the 72 EFL clubs are shaping up.

Since you only get one One Club chip, you definitely don’t want to waste it!
