Our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2025/26 team previews continue with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Here, their best FPL picks for the upcoming campaign are discussed. We’ll also attempt to predict the line-up for Gameweek 1, review pre-season, detail the best players for defensive contributions (DC) and more.

What is Zophar still debating with one week to go?

The data and graphics in this article come from either our Members Area or Statsbomb, with whom we are again partnering in 2025/26.

Fantasy managers can get access to the wealth of Statsbomb numbers, as well as the usual Opta stats, new defensive contribution (DC) points, recalculated points from last season, exclusive articles, transfer planner, tools and app, with a 47% discounted Chief Scout membership today.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

FPL pre-season: Isak’s future + Arteta on Gyokeres' pens

THEY’VE BOUGHT A FORWARD

Last season’s 69 goals were very low for a supposed title contender, far less than the 88 and 91 of their second-placed finishes in 2022/23 and 2023/24.

Bournemouth had more overall attempts, while the Gunners ranked seventh for shots on target (180) – below both the Cherries and Brighton and Hove Albion. They only narrowly pipped Crystal Palace to sixth for expected goals (xG, 61.58) – yes, these 69 strikes were actually a big overachievement!

Arteta has long been chasing the purchase of a top-class striker, so the hope is that £64m man Viktor Gyokeres (£9.0m) can help turn all those draws into wins. Arsenal dropped 21 points from leading positions, enduring a February-to-May spell of three wins in 11.

Not that Kai Havertz (£7.5m) had been particularly bad, bagging nine goals in 21 pre-injury league starts.

STRONG DEFENCE

If Arsenal eventually better their three years of being runners-up, a big reason will be having the bedrock of a good defence.

No side conceded fewer goals (34), expected goals (xGC, 35.08), shots on target (120) or big chances (58), keeping 13 clean sheets along the way. David Raya (£5.5m) was the joint-winner of the Golden Glove.

Two seasons ago, they were also the best in these four areas, with even better numbers of – in order – 29, 28.42, 83 and 40.

Whether it’s from Gameweek 1 or once fixtures improve, FPL managers absolutely need coverage of this backline.

SET-PIECE THREAT

As is often discussed by pundits, Arsenal are good at dead-ball situations:

They ended 2024/25 as the fourth-best for set-piece shots (153) and second-best at preventing them (86). Alongside Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, the Gunners scored 17 times from such moments.

REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

FPL notes: Saliba ban, Arteta on Saka 1

ILL-DISCIPLINE

With Gyokeres one of many signings – more on them below – not much should concern supporters.

Even so, it’s worth mentioning that Arsenal collected a league-high of six red cards. That’s despite conceding the joint-fourth fewest fouls (401) and accumulating the third-least bookings (66).

If Arteta can calm everyone down, maybe those wins stop becoming draws and there will be more lineup stability.

FPL Marc Broadcaster, writer and overthinker. Hoping that ‘differential potential’ will catch on.

Yep, and the third sub is a 4.5. I want all the money on the pitch and I can only remember one time in the last years where I've actually had to use more than 2 auto subs in a GW.

Anthony and Edwards are their wingers. They have just brought Brunn Larsen back too so would seem unlikely that Ramsey would be anywhere near the pitch.

There's a tactic no Salah no Haaland bench boost gw1 load the squad with potential big hitters
        Then free hit gw2
Wildcard gw3 when you have a little bit more info as to who is in form & starting .

I commented yesterday that I'm not convinced about having either of those two in my team but I just end up with too much money on the bench or in the bank otherwise. So, I'm going with Salah as it could save me a wildcard if either him or Haaland do indeed become essential.

I'm coming in. Not because I think its a good idea necessarily but I want to have some fun with different caps each week bar those two. That said if I was playing seriously I still wouldnt touch Haaland. There were like 6 strikers who outscored him last season? Watkins has outscored him twice now I think

I would like to have both Wirtz and Bruno, but downgrading Watkins to Evanilson gives me only two millions, so I would have to downgrade also Gabriel to Esteve. Not sure it's a good idea, especially if I want Gyokeres later. Might force me to gw7 WC. Which is better?

Sesko coming in reduces the appeal IMO.

Cunha-Sesko-Mbuemo leaves little room for Bruno playing in his best position. When he's sat deep it's just endless hoof-balls and throwing his arms up in the air to the ref every 2mins.

Sorry for srupid question. How can I check easily in which games players would have got CBIT (CBIRT) points? Finding players who do well in easy fixtures with higher CS and attacking pts is important for rotation. Has anyone done a study about them?

              Sorry, that’s WC4

Right, yes, I've weighted up the same option. I need to give it more thought. WC4 is my standard, but I'm completely unprepared this season, and might need more time to digest the changes this season.

Ended up stacked with 3 Liverpool, 3 Chelsea and 3 Forest now, maybe over tinkered

        All good. I have 3 Forest, 3 Chelsea, 2 Liverpool, 2 Villa, 2 Leeds on BB1.

      How does this look?

      Kelleher | Dubravka
Neco Williams | Diouf | De Cuyper | Tosin | Rodon
      Salah | Palmer | Wirtz | Gakpo | N'diaye
      Watkins | Bowen | Guiu

Tosin can be swapped out for another 4.5 defender if he doesn't look like starting.

So, not sure how I can afford this, no Haaland (but 3 premium), 11 (H) players for GW1 (won't be playing BB though due to bench)... Seems balanced... Decent DEF...

      Sanchez | {Dubravka}
      VvD | N Williams | VdV | {Wan-Bissaka} | {Esteve}
      Salah | Palmer | Wirtz | Kudus | Anderson
      Watkins | Joao Pedro | {Marc Guiu}

With £0.5m still in the bank... Thoughts?

                I dream of a top 20k.
My problem is I have limited patience and end up spending all my hard earned points on transfers. 🙁

Been reported as a minor ankle injury and not been ruled out of GW1. You are picking a player beyond GW1 right?

Villa were always going to sign a winger as Emergy doesn't seem to fancy Malen or Bailey.

Looks like Guessand is that guy

Lewis Potter (5.0m DEF) playing LW tonight, Schade still injured.

      Kelleher not in the squad

Brentford are playing another friendly tomorrow so likely using split squad

Nothing on FotMob or Sofascore but the friendly tomorrow appears on Google.

Strong 11 tonight, not far off their main starting 11

Ouattara heavily linked with Brentford so probably plays LW if he signs and Schade is still out

No Wissa to be seen. I keep fancying a punt on Thiago.

      A) Rogers + Kudus + Palmer
      B) Malen + Wirtz + Saka

Have been on A for a while now, but the Maddison injury and Rogers uncertainty is making me lean B. Thoughts?

        A) if Rogers is good to go for GW1,
        otherwise maybe
        C) Sarr Wirtz Palmer
