Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£5.0m) was the standout performer for Everton on Saturday, as David Moyes’ side were defeated 1-0 by Roma at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

In this Scout Notes article, we’ll cover the key notes and quotes from this clash.

The friendly involving Fulham is also summarised.

FPL pre-season: Gordon injury, Isak latest + De Cuyper goal 1

EVERTON 0-1 ROMA

DEWSBURY-HALL THREAT

Everton remain a work in progress but there were positives to take on Saturday, particularly from debutant Dewsbury-Hall.

Playing in a No 10 role, the £5.0m midfielder demonstrated his ability to drive forward with the ball and create, registering four key passes in just over an hour of football.

He was on set-pieces, too, another string to his bow.

“I thought Kiernan did well. I thought he gave us some quality and you could see the difference in his levels with some of the things he did, which were very good, so I’m really pleased with that part.” – David Moyes on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

With Carlos Alcaraz (£5.5m) and Iliman Ndiaye (£6.5m) deployed on the flanks, Everton were the better side for large periods and did create several opportunities.

Thierno Barry (£6.0m), however, squandered the most significant of those chances.

With neither Barry nor Beto (£5.5m) truly making a strong impression during pre-season, Moyes has a difficult choice of who to start up front against Leeds United in Gameweek 1.

As for Ndiaye, he missed a decent chance shortly after half-time and later forced a save from the Roma ‘keeper.

BRANTHWAITE RETURNS/MYKOLENKO INJURY

Jarrad Branthwaite (£5.5m) missed the Premier League Summer Series through injury but returned to the starting XI here, lining up alongside James Tarkowski (£5.5m) at the back.

The pair looked assured for the most part, with Tarkowski’s header from a Dewsbury-Hall corner shaving the woodwork.

Notably, both centre-backs would have hit the defensive contributions (DC) threshold in this match, with 11 and 14 respectively.

But Everton did lose Vitalii Mykolenko (£5.0m) to injury, as he walked off gingerly after only 10 minutes.

His replacement, Adam Aznou (£4.5m), showed some good touches but was caught out of position for the goal.

The extent of Mykolenko’s injury is yet to be determined.

“We’ll wait to see what the report says, we’ve not had chance yet.” – David Moyes on Vitalii Mykolenko

Everton XI: Pickford, O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite (Keane 79), Mykolenko (Aznou 11), Garner, Gueye (Iroegbunam 62), Alcaraz (Chermiti 80), Dewsbury-Hall (McNeil 61), Ndiaye, Barry (Beto 61)

FULHAM 1-0 EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

FPL notes: Raul's return to form, Rogers + Watkins superb

  • Goal: Jimenez

JIMENEZ GOAL/£4.5M KING STARTS

Raul Jimenez (£6.5m) scored a superb free-kick as Fulham triumphed 1-0 over Eintracht Frankfurt.

In the absence of Rodrigo Muniz (£5.5m), who apparently took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly between the two sides earlier in the day, the Mexican proved the difference maker, firing home from just under 30 yards.

Harry Wilson (£5.5m) was later denied when his low shot was smothered, while Josh King (£4.5m) performed well in the No 10 role and was slightly unfortunate not to win a penalty.

Influential in the middle of the park, King has now racked up 164 minutes of pre-season football as he aims to become a regular starter under Marco Silva.

ROBINSON + SESSEGNON INJURY LATEST

In his post-match presser, Silva confirmed Antonee Robinson (£5.0m) will not be ready to face Brighton and Hove Albion in Gameweek 1, simply saying “Jedi is not ready”.

In a further blow, Ryan Sessegnon (£5.5m) was taken off after just 22 minutes against Frankfurt.

“He felt something. Let’s see in the next few hours or few days how he reacts. We’ll do some exams on him.” – Marco Silva on Ryan Sessegnon

Losing both players would be a major blow to Fulham, with Jorge Cuenca (£4.5m) or Timothy Castagne (£4.5m) likely to fill in at the Amex Stadium. That could be good news for Brighton right winger Yankuba Minteh (£6.0m).

Fulham XI: Leno, Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Sessegnon (Amissah 22), Berge, Lukic, Wilson, King (Cairney 73), Iwobi, Jimenez

Can anyone convince me on who else to pick barring Haaland?

If I don't make Haaland team (Haaland+Watkins), then i will start with Watkins-Bowen, and monitoring the situation with Solanke (injury), Wood (NFO goaless), J. Pedro (minutes), Mateta (fixtures)..

Vvd and Salah looking way do expensive rn compared to form. Salah has the historic breakout potential but there are way too many elite mid tier players this year to spend so much on Salah or Haaland. Vvd shouldn’t even be on the radar imo

But whoever was there last season led to a Liverpool PL win, so it's not like Salah has been surrounded by crap until Wirtz and Ekitike

DEF: VdV, Konsa, Esteve - Play 2 of the 3 each week, great rotation
DEF: Rodon, Reinildo - play whoever has the better fixture each week
MID: Lots of Penalties, Corners, Free Kicks covered

Thoughts on this Fanteam Draft? Would cost 104 million in main FPL game but is 100 in Fanteam. Rutter and Bowen also had positions swapped

    Kelleher

    Watkins Mateta

    Valdimarsson Rutter Lacroix Esteve

    4.5
    5.5 / 5.0 / 4.5
    13.5 / 11.0 / 7.5 / 8.0 / 6.0

Schade out of last 2 games with a knock. Watch the pressers thursday to see if he's in for 1st game. I think he is going to have an absolutely outstanding year
11 goals in 2300 minutes scaled up is 15+ goals from a midfielder for a full season.
Didnt get established in the team until nov last year. He will be nailed on for starts this year

    Thoughts on this draft:

    Sels - Verbruggen
Gabriel - De Cuyper - Tarkowski - Romero - VdV
    Malen - Salah - Wirtz - Anderson - Xhaka
    Watkins - Wood - Ekitike

Still have 1M in the bank, which I'm currently thinking on using on upgrading Malen to Rice or DEF upgrade.

Planning to BB GW1 and might or might not WC after.

Salah -> Saka for GW2 and then WC could be an option. Double Spurs defence is really for GW1 only (think they have a good chance to CS) and after that I'll ditch, either via WC or otherwise.

I would remove Wood...Forest are struggling for goals this pre-season. Solanke (if fit) and Joao Pedro are better options than Wood.

Or find an extra 1.5 to go to Watkins/Gyok by downgrading midfield or/and defence

4-4-2 with Andersen and 3-5-2 with KDH.

Every year it happens. I've had a fairly settled 12 or 13 right up to the last round of pre-season, and now I'm having doubts about the whole structure, let alone players, with less than a week to go. I know its early doors, but Guiu has an air of Brewster about him and has potential to plummet in value, even from 4.5.

Anyway, do any of these float your boats?
    1.
    Sanchez
    VVD Munoz Milenkovic
    Palmer Bruno Wirtz Semenyo Anderson
    Haaland JSL

    Dubravka VdV Guiu 4.0

    2.
    Sanchez
    Munoz Mykolenko Milenkovic
    Palmer Bruno Wirtz Reijnders Anderson
    Haaland Gyokeres

    Same bench

    or 3.
    Sanchez
    VVD Munoz Milenkovic
    Enzo Bruno Wirtz Reijnders
    Haaland Gyokeres JP
    Dubravka Anderson VdV 4.0

I swore I'd never jump on the Pedro bandwagon again, but he's banging them in pre-season. All depends on where Enzo is playing, this one, and its probably a bit too light in midfield with limited captain options, but that front line excites me.

Thank you. I did hear that actually. Probably go with rotating 4.5s for the 3rd slot.

What do people have against 3 6m defenders especially with defenders being so important this year?

Midfield and Forwards are where the big points are scored, not in defence. Three 6m defenders means less money allocated to the attacking positions

DEFCON causes the 6m defenders to be not much better than the 5.5s.

      Neither
      Rogers injured
      James not nailed

Different positions. But I'd prefer Gakpo for his price

King (fulham) or Potts (west ham). Personally would go with king due to scoring in pre season and playing CAM instead of potts at CM/CDM
