With Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) nearing, our pundits are starting to finalise their teams ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

FPL General, who has three top 500 finishes to his name, is fully committed to going without Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) and Erling Haaland (£14.1m) this season. He is also committed to a Gameweek 3 Wildcard – which he shares here.

General no Salah Haaland

Gameweek 2 Review

As for many FPL managers, it’s been a rough start to

As is the case for many FPL managers, it’s been a rough start to the season. Having just 87 points in total and a rank of 7.7m wasn’t exactly how it was supposed to play out!

I always say it’s better to have these frustrating Gameweeks early doors rather than at the business end of the campaign when there’s less time to recover from them. We’ve got 36 Gameweeks to go; the first two were just the warm-up. The fightback begins this weekend and the consistent run of green arrows will be sweeter than ever.

My season so far was summed up by Cole Palmer (£10.5m) not featuring, captain Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) and defender Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.1m) going off injured and Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) sending a penalty to Mars. Nottingham Forest don’t seem to keep clean sheets any more, Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) is getting very little service and Florian Wirtz (£8.4m) might need a little time to adjust to life in the Premier League.

With three injuries, quite a few underperforming picks and just one free transfer available, I pressed the Wildcard button after the Newcastle United v Liverpool game on Monday night…

Gameweek 3 Wildcard

Best of luck this weekend, folks. Enjoy the games!

Leeds away and Wolves home in the next 2 - I can’t understand why he’s being overlooked?

I take your point. But with Howe desperate for a striker surely there’s a chance Woltemade starts or at least is involved?

Id estimate the chance of Wolte starting or being on the bench as 0.001%

Hote take, but if Isak joins LFC, is it even worth owning LFC attackers due to UCL rotation?
He could be rotated with Ekitike if they play Real Madrid etc before/after a mid-table PL team. Even if he starts, he might get 70 mins max.
The further distribution of points and changing formations (4-4-2 / 4-2-3-1) throughout the season could cause rotation headaches.
(I own Haaland, so no Salah for me).

    1. JT11fc
      • 7 Years

Its makes Salah the most nailed attacker but also reduces his goal share even more

      1. adstomko

Yep, and therefore not worth 14.5m

    2. Haa-lala-land

It will be a nightmare except for Salah.
Even Gakpo would become a risk if Ekitike can play left and Isak up top.
Or Ekitike in the 10 behind Isak to rest Wirtz.
      What a pain Isak is.

      1. adstomko
        • 9 Years

        Yup exactly.
I'd probably say Wirtz is the most nailed (to an extent) after Salah and Isak.

Liverpool have the best attack in the league. Having their players for 70 mins is like 90 mins of other teams anyway.

Have some problems with my team.

Wirtz: In a cagey affair against Arsenal, Szoboszlai physicality and presence will be needed. I would prefer if he started over Wirtz. Will Bradley be ready to fill in at RB?

Palmer: The Fulham game seems too soon for him but I see him returning the week after.

Georginio Rutter: "should be back soon" if he's not ready this gameweek I'll probably get a 1pter from Marc Guiu as he's settling in

Ait Nouri: His timeline is 1-3 weeks out, if it's only a week or two keeping him after the free hit is not bad at all.

Tempted to free hit even with 2FTs because:

-I'll have more information to use both transfers
-Can stack United, Forest and Chelsea assets for just this week
-Can captain Haaland then return to Salah for the following few fixtures

    1. KEEEEEZ
      • 8 Years
      3 months, 9 days ago

Yep I would free-hit, in my mind when you have 4 headaches in your time it gets to FH territory. Id like to think Palmer is rested this week and over IB and is raring to go after the break, also considering his only game played is a 0-0 vs Palace yet (will want to get off the mark in the PL). Ait Nouri benefits from IB also. Wirtz potentially one to shift eventually.

      1. Lallana_
        • 11 Years
        3 months, 9 days ago

I like the idea of owning Palmer and Ait-Nouri long-term which is why I picked them!

Wirtz definitely is a sell but after this GW he has two good games I'm sure Slot will start him in.

    2. Rodri
      • 1 Year

Ait-Nouri has been called up for Algeria’s September qualifiers. Maybe he’s fit

Interesting, I think if he plays and stays fit (although both big ifs) he'd tick along well this season with the positions he would pick up in Peps system.

      1. Lallana_

Seems like a good solution. I want to save my wildcard for when the template starts forming or towards December with the heavy fixture list.

    4. Haa-lala-land
      • 5 Years
      3 months, 9 days ago

      I wouldn't do it.
      There'll be better opportunities later.
Fulham are decent and won't get turned over
      West Ham will surprise Forest
Man Utd will win, but not by more than one goal.
      Newcastle are decimated currently

      1. Lallana_
        • 11 Years
        3 months, 9 days ago

        Yeah, I can do this.

        Guiu>Wood (C)
        Palmer>Sarr

then try to build my transfers again! I don't like saving my free hit for the optimal time either because sometimes it never comes though.

I'm sure if I save my transfers I can have Haaland for GW6

        1. Haa-lala-land
          • 5 Years
          3 months, 9 days ago

You could just ride out this week, and put the injured trio of Palmer and Ran and Rutter. I think Wirtz is fine against Arsenal.
3FT and FH remains in tact then and you get to see out the close of the transfer window and decide on moves in the two week international break.

Wood is tempting this week, it will be annoying if he scores a brace, but it's only one game. We can't have them all.

          1. Lallana_
            • 11 Years
            3 months, 9 days ago

Good thing about Wood is I can bench him the next week for Rutter too!

I think I would have to use at least one transfer to not get a huge red arrow.

            1. _Greg
              • 15 Years
              3 months, 9 days ago

I'd be tempted to sell Rutter for Douglas Luiz, then carry 2 FT's over IB.

  10. Rodri

    Bench one (Kudus - I.Sarr - Wirtz? - Rogers - JP)

    1. KEEEEEZ
      • 8 Years
      3 months, 9 days ago

Sarr just played 90 this morning and travelled I believe, so if I had to pick I would bench. People thinking Rogers although against tired legs and hes always a 90 min man. Wirtz I don't know enough about Liverpool but may not get a full 90 if he doesn't play up to scratch, esp against Arsenal. My ranking would be below:

      Play
      JP
      Kudus
      Rogers
      Wirtz
      Sarr
      Bench

    2. Lallana_
      • 11 Years

Probably Wirtz. Possibility he doesn't start? Szoboszlai could start in the 10 if Bradley starts.

I think Wirtz is the most likely to start, against ARS defense we will need his quality to unlock Ekitike in tight spaces.

    3. _Greg
      • 15 Years

Kudus doesn't seem likely to score ever, it's unusual how popular he his. Sure he'll get you the odd assist. Wirtz time to shine, head says bench Wirtz heart says bench Kudus.

I can't take seriously any manager who has so big mental issues that he can't even try to do well in the game, but has instead decided to give himself an excuse to fail. Also, the picks seem to be at least partially "for fun" and excitement whilst watching games on telly.

I think I want Isak either way if he goes or stays. Would prefer he stayed, then I can back Gakpo + Ekitike long term over Salah but also have Haaland.

    1. Baps Hunter
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I would have doubts about his motivation if he stayed. He just might play badly, not train properly and affect team mentality. I believe him to be "eased" in and Ekitike getting start or two before Isak becomes a starter. No point to hope anything, there is nothing we can do and chaos is a ladder. Isak to Liv will prolly cause problems to Ekitike and Gakpo owners, so people have different hopes.

As an Ekitike and Gakpo enjoyer, I hope he stays.

Ekitike is really good. He's gonna play a lot no matter what. Gakpo seems like a chill guy, I feel he's less likely to kick up a fuss if he's in and out of the team.

Next few days will be interesting.

Is it worth a - 4 to do the following move or just play RAN as I have Diouf & Guddy on bench.

    RAN > Cucu

    Y or N

Sarr if you aren't keen on Mateta - with them in Europe I probably wouldnt double up on them.

Europe, if they take it seriously, is going to cripple Palace.
        I'd stay well clear.

I am of the same opinion, I just think short term Sarr might be okay, but mid-long agree.

This is the issue for me. They played yesterday with their first team. Some said they were leggy(? what's correct term) already. How tight is their schedule? Does anyone have link to Legomanes fixture ticker or is there a better one? Crellin's is behind paywall I believe.

It does not fulfill your requirement at 6.5 dead, but Smith Rowe is firmly on my radar for a Fulham side that are not to be underestimated this season.

I know that many disagree, but I believe that this means that Wolves can now sell JSL. I personally don't expect JSL to start next game. At Newcastle he would get 10x higher salary. Newcastle have made a signing to a player similar to JSL and Wissa is contention, but if they get 150-160 from Isak, they have probably money to buy even both JSL and Wissa(?)

I presume Wissa will still be going to Newcastle, his absence so far is quite telling. Man Utd should probably buy Wissa and let Sesko chill for 6 months!

Here I agree. But Newcastle are akao in Europe and having only on PL level unproven Woltemade and Wissa isn't enough imo. Some earlier reports said Woltemade to be Wilson replacement. That leaves room for a Isak replacement imo. There have been some issues in that team, I believe. Wolves owners have been said to be greedy. Very difficult to really know what's been going on and what rumours are just a trick to get more money.

Woltemade for 65 millions. JSL is about same price. Wissa is valued at € 32 million. That's about 95 million pounds for them. If they get 155 millions from Isak, they would have 60 millions for JSL. Wilson is worth 8 millions. Supposing Woltemade comes for Wilson, JSL for Isak and then Wissa to add up quality in attack, the math makes sense imo.

          Adds up.
Just dont think Ekitike or JSL would be expecting to play back up striker, but then I suppose city used to have Augero, Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli all at once

Isak needs his minutes to be managed with that groin niggle. He can't play all OL PL and CL games without getting injured. What has been promised to Ekitike I don't know. Champions league football in Liverpool should be tempting. JSL has been promised 10x(!!!) higher salary and he certainly wants to leave. CL football and chance to compete about starting place sounds better (to me) than being in a team that is in relegation battle.

If he doesnt, they will get relegated I think.

Surely selling JSL for 30-40m profit isn't worth the relegation risk? I would be saying to him 'mate, score us a ton of goals and help us avoid relegation and we will let you pick your destination next summer, you will leave a hero.'

After starting with Ekitike Gakpo Wirtz, I'm quite satisfied to have Ekitike and Gakpo in there for now. Strand Larsen and Wissa, Wissa we knew wasn't playing. It's gone really quiet on Strand Larsen and Newcastle now have that 6ft 6" beast, I'm taking that to mean Strand Larsen stays put now.

Wolves are very close getting Tolu Arakadore for £ 20 million. His market price is € 18 million according to Transfermarkt. That is far too much money to pay for backup striker (for Wolves).

It's the right amount to pay for backup striker to avoid relegation - which would cost hundreds of millions.

They paid £23 million for Strand-Larsen. If they had any intention to keep him, they should/would have invested that money to improve defence and midfield and gotten RAN and Cunha replacements.

Do any of these create double ups?

A - xMins reduction with Isak?
B - Love him. No issues.
C - Simons in the picture, I still think Kudus role is pretty safe but can not be as sure as I was before this.
D - How does Euro effect them, and rotation? I like him more than Mateta given he is cheaper and less of a rotation risk in the mid term but given this is short term, he's probably safe.

Richarlison potentially sub risk from Solanke in the long run, especially if he blanks or has bad performances..

the x of GWs was quite a default suggestion looking forward in time, but the argument for Wood and Kudus is probably stronger the more forward in time we look

    Sels

Marmoush is an interesting one. But saw somewhere that he will start upfront with Haaland in a front 2. Also expect City to bounce back.
