The Fantasy EFL Gameweek deadline is fast approaching, with a Championship fixture kicking us off on Friday evening. To help fine-tune your final 7+2’s, here Louis (aka FPLReactions) shares his Fantasy EFL Gameweek 8 team reveal. He finished inside last season’s top 200.

Goalkeeper

Cardiff have been one of the best defences across all three leagues so far this season. They have racked up a huge eight clean sheets in all competitions. Their lack of convincing defender options has forced me into backing Nathan Trott. Trott has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the game. He’s banked at least seven points in five of his six starts.

Defenders

There aren’t many appealing defender options this week, so I have opted for a two-man backline. Stevenage play at home this week – a venue which has seen them keep three consecutive clean sheets. Centre-back Carl Piergianni makes the cut, given he has produced a whopping 71 clearances already. I also think he is the standout captaincy option heading into Gameweek 8.

Joining him, and just about, is Marvin Ekpiteta. Although not as effective as his absent teammate, Jack Sanders, Ekpiteta appears to be the standout MK Dons defender. This is due to clearance potential. MK Dons face an Accrington side who have failed to score in three of their last five matches in all competitions.

Midfield

There does appear to be an abundance of midfield options this week. My theme of backing home players this season continues, though, which knocks several off my shortlist. Ruben Colwill does feel like a must this week. Cardiff have been relentless this season – more so at home. The Welsh side have racked up 10 goals in their previous three home matches. Colwill has contributed heavily to that. The Welshman heads into the game off the back of scoring five goals and one assist already.

Wigan have been poor away from home this season, so jumping on the in-form Amario Cozier-Duberry feels sensible. Bolton may not be the most consistent side, but they have failed to score in just one of their 10 matches this season. Cozier-Duberry is vital to that frontline and can offer multiple routes to points.

Forwards

I can’t actually remember the last time I played two forwards in this game. The defenders and midfielders on offer this week just don’t appeal to me as much as they usually do. There are also several genuinely good striker picks with good home matches to choose from. One of them is arguably the best striker in the Championship, Josh Sargent. Wrexham have been one of the worst sides in the league for conceding big chances as of late. This paints a target on their back heading into most rounds. With this in mind, and considering his blistering start to the campaign, Sargent feels like a shoo-in.

Plymouth have also caught my eye recently. Although woeful at the start of the season, they seem to have found a rhythm from an attacking perspective. Spearheading that frontline against a poor Peterborough defence this week is penalty taker Laurent Tolaj. The former Port Vale man appears to be in a purple patch of form, with three goals and one assist in his previous four matches.

Team Picks

Sheffield Wednesday seem to be in complete collapse. As well as suffering from financial issues, they have also shipped 2-3 goals in seven of their nine matches this season. Because of this, backing Portsmouth makes sense. Pompey could breeze past their opposition this week, and that could lead to maximum bonus.

Bristol City are another easy pick for me for Gameweek 8. They head into their match against an inconsistent Portsmouth off the back of a 4-2 win in Gameweek 6 and a 3-0 win in Gameweek 7.
