Crystal Palace’s progress to the EFL Cup quarter-finals creates a scheduling headache in mid-December.

The last eight of that competition is due to be contested in the week beginning December 15. Palace have been drawn to play Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

*This article has been updated at 11:55 BST following a BBC Sport story

LACK OF FREE MIDWEEKS

But Palace’s schedule is already pretty packed, thanks to their UEFA Conference League involvement (below image from BBC Sport):

*fixtures from Dec 27 onwards have yet to be finalised

The problem is the lack of other free midweeks between now and January.

There is only one for Palace – and that’s on December 23/24.

COULD TWO GAMEWEEK 17 MATCHES BE POSTPONED?

One suggestion is that Leeds v Crystal Palace and Arsenal v Everton in Gameweek 17 are instead postponed.

That would help accommodate the EFL Cup quarter-final between Arsenal and Palace on Sunday 21 December.

LATEST REPORTS: BLANK GAMEWEEK 17 LOOKING UNLIKELY

However, BBC Sport are now reporting that Blank Gameweek 17 doesn’t look likely. Instead, the Eagles would contest two cup ties in the space of 48 hours.

If the BBC are correct, Palace’s schedule would now read as follows:

  • Sunday 14 December: Gameweek 16 – Man City (h)
  • Tuesday 16 December: EFL Cup quarter-final – Arsenal (a)
  • Thursday 18 December: Conference League – KuPS (h)
  • Sunday 21 December: Gameweek 17 – Leeds (a)

ONLY SPECULATION AT THIS STAGE

It’s still not confirmed at this early stage, then, but something just to be aware of regarding future FPL planning and (especially) chip usage. If you’ve got a Free Hit intact, for instance, this might come in useful if we do get a ‘blank’ – not that now looks likely.

We’ll hopefully not have to speculate much longer and get a definitive answer from the Premier League and the Football League soon.

    Hi Neale,

Do you have any thoughts on when the BGW/DGWs could be announced? Maybe before GW11 deadline based on QFs TV schedule was confirmed a week after the draw in the last season.

Aye, that could be the case re last year's precedent, Tony. The PL have still got the TV matches from Boxing Day onwards to confirm, as well (that should be very soon), so I wonder if they'll tie it in with that announcement, too.

This is where I'm at, £4.5m it but just 1 FT.

    Raya Dúbravka
    Gabriel Chalabah Romero Senesi Mukiele
    Semenyo Eze Sarr Reijnders Stach
    Mateta Haaland Woltemade

    1. Just do Stach to Mbeumo, as the obvious move?

Morning gang! Four press conferences to come today, according to the BBC. If this had been a month ago, I'd come armed with a hilarious line about it being four relegation rivals:

1.30pm - Farke (LEE), Amorim (MUN), Dyche (NFO)
    2pm - Parker (BUR)

Looks good. Not sure Munoz is worth it though. Maybe downgrade to Guehi/Lacroix. Can you afford KDH then for the 4.3m mid? I'd also prefer some other fodder defenders than Reinildo and Acheampong. For example For example Mukiele, Rodon, Esteve all seem like way better options for not much more.

Chelsea with yet another red card. Lack of discipline to go along with their shambolic defending over the last month or so. I would fancy Spurs to give them a hiding, but then Spurs usually seem to struggle against Chelsea and this season have been poor at home. Could be any score that one.

That was always the more likely scenario.

But there's a chance that Arsenal double this side of the New Year.

If it's just Leeds and Palace blanking the FH won't be so powerful. Many do have Palace double or triple up, but the schedule might erdoe that anyhow.

On a -4 already. But I think I have to take another this week.

Doku has to go. Played the full 90 midweek. I just don't seem him starting this weekend.

    What would you do?

    A) Keep Doku +4 points and replace next week
    B) Sarr
    C) Enzo
    D) Neto
    E) Schade

Leaning B with a Mateta double up.

If you have triple Palace you'll struggle to get out 11.

In a dgw with just two sides doubling you could potentially have 17 effective players that week.

1 team doubles you could have 14 players deployed, if you are tripled up.

It's the week to week scores that aggregate in this game.

Andersen, JP and Enzo for Mbeumo, Mateta and Mukiele for - 4. Or just Mbeumo and Kroupi for JP and KDH. THANKS!

Starting Mbeumo, Mateta instead of Enzo, JP is very tempting. Might be worth the -4, could give you plenty upside this weekend.

If Palace and Arsenal blank the FH would be most useful to play around that.

Than into a small dgw, but I know most people want to play it into a dgw.

The TC works perfectly in a dgw.

Palace drawn against Arsenal for the QFs

If the game is played on GW17 weekend, that’ll create Blanks of EVE-ARS and LEE-CRY in #FPL

And there’s reasonable possibility of EVE-ARS moving forward to create DGW16 ...

      ARS: WOL + eve
      EVE: che + ARS

Probably 4 vs 3 pts so whichever you fancy. Caicedo probably edges it

      Why Enzo out?

Will he play deeper? Delap playing 9 with Pedro in the 10?

      Depends on your defence

    Best move here:

    Raya
    Munoz - Gabriel - Porro
    Semenyo - Saka - Sarr - Kudus
    Woltemade - Haaland - J.Pedro

    Bench: Dub, Reijnders, Senesi, Estève

    A) J.Pedro + Porro —> Mateta + Burn? (-4)

    B) Save FT and get Mateta and sort out Porro next week

Anything worth doing or roll? 3FT, 0.2itb

    Raya / Dub
Gab / VDV / Thiaw (Senesi / Rodon)
Bruno / Ndiaye / Enzo / Semenyo (Stach)
    Haaland / JPM / Gyok

Gyokores needs to go but feel like Burnley will be his type of game
