Who is the best captain for FPL Gameweek 13?

Incredibly, the 17 most-captained players all failed to register an attacking return in Gameweek 12! Erling Haaland (£14.9m) blanked for the six million plus Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who handed him the armband, although he did miss three big chances.

The captaincy decision looks to be pretty straightforward with Manchester City hosting out-of-form Leeds United. There is a strong case to play the Triple Captain chip, too.

As usual in Captain Sensible though, we consider whether there is a case to look beyond the Norwegian this week and if not, recommend some differential options for the risk-takers among us.

First, we will assess the on-site captaincy poll. We will then analyse player and team statistics, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings to determine the best captain for Gameweek 13 ahead of Saturday’s 1.30pm GMT deadline.

Captaincy Poll

To the surprise of nobody, Haaland leads the Fantasy Football Scout captaincy poll. Just shy of 80% of site users believe the Norwegian, who has scored 14 goals in 12 league starts, is the best option for Gameweek 13.

No other player can boast even 10% of public backing. Igor Thiago (£6.5m) sits in second place, ahead of an appealing home fixture against Burnley, with just over 9% of the vote.

Elsewhere, there is little to separate the likes of Jeremy Doku (£6.5m), Phil Foden (£8.0m) and Antoine Semenyo (£7.9m). In truth though, their support is negligible.

          Mbeumo, Saka and Rice are facing two of the strongest defences in the league, for starters. Saka and Rice take corners, but their corner lynchpin is injured, which affects their output a bit (not down to 0, of course)

          I'd like to see more from Zirkzee (or his replacement) in that role before putting enough faith in Mbeumo to have him on FH against Palace defence

      You can find this on Fantasy Nutmeg albeit its a bit time/labour intensive, if you go to season archive and then bar chart race and change the range of GWs to being 1-12 you can see it for each season. I only looked for the past 5 seasons and not at the top 10 just anyone who scored over 70 as that seemed a reasonable barometer.

      24/25 - 7 total, 3 forwards, 4 midfielders
      Top scorer Salah 120

      23/24 - 7 total - 5 midfielders, 2 forwards.
      Top Scorer Salah 100

      22/23 - 2 total - 2 forwards
      Top Scorer Haaland 104

      21/22 - 5 total - 2 midfielders, 3 defenders.
      Top Scorer Salah 125

      20/21 - 9 total - 4 forwards, 5 midfielders.
      Top Scorer Kane 107, honourable mention to Son on 105

      This season we've got 6 players over 70 points (1 forward, 2 midfielders, 3 defenders) with Haaland bang on his pace from 22/23. The interesting bit for me is the defenders not featuring at all in previous seasons except 21/22. What happened in 21/22? Trent got 208 points, Cancelo 201 points, Robertson 186. This was a big season for defenders. Its happening again at this rate. The 3 players just missing out on the 70 point cut off are Guehi, Lacroix and Keane.

        I've gone 4 atb with Muñoz. Wasn't convinced by form, fixture, fitness or nailedness of my preferred options: MGW, Richarlison, Minteh, Welbeck. Same for your list of options

        I ended up with Anderson (when combining all factors) and benched him for Muñoz

            I don't think players deliberately get booked. It's more likely thqt he'll try to avoid another booking before GW19. Or if he's the type to even consider that, he'll get it for a Christmas break

            Palace being tired is a concern, yeah. I'm still there because there's no obvious option

              Yeah MGW was also my initial pick pre knock. Think I'm going Sarr. I've owned him for a few GWs and think he could get some joy against that United defence. Also like Malen but minutes could be an issue.

    I have seen many managers buying O'Reilly, and I was tempted to do the same (FOMO)until Pep decided to start Ait-Nouri on Tuesday.

    Obviously, there is a risk that he might not start all games in the crunch time now. I mean Man City spent some money for Ait-Nouri so if he is fit, Pep will give him a chance most likely against weaker teams like Leeds today.

    Same with Doku who went up over night.

    Well, all we know is that Pep's roulette is unpredictable. And from memory, December is the underdog month.
    Therefore good.luck in the casino.

      Haven't purchased Nico myself but it was a blatant B team midweek, he rotated everyone. If you own Reijnders for example I'd be very concerned he was in that team. They lost as well and sucked bad, nobody really pressed home a claim for a start. Plus RAN is Afcon bound. That doesnt mean he starts all the games as we know Gvardiol can play LB too.

        I'm aware of all of this but find it less convincing for the short term.

        There are many games before the AFCON and Pep might use RAA as long as available and rest O'Reilly as much as possible.

        But we shall.see.

      Emery vs 5 at the back Amorim - 1 game 0-2 loss
      Emery vs Nuno(when he played 5 at the back in the PL) - 4 games, 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss. *3 of them were Arsenal(Emery) vs Wolves(Nuno)

      11 games, 1 win, 3 draws, 7 losses - 11 goals scored and 26 conceded.

      Emery teams don't seem to do well vs 5 at the back.

      Also lost 1-0 vs Pereira's Wolves(5 at the back)
      1-0 at home vs Soton and on the road it was 0-0 until the 70th minute(ended 3-0 for Villa).
