AFCON Fantasy moves into Gameweek 2 with managers already reacting to what we learned in the opening round.

Team reveals offer insight into early trends, emerging differentials, and where confidence is building ahead of the next deadline.

NOTES

  • There are a lot of tough matchups this week, and not many teams to target.
  • That means that there aren’t many premiums/decent players to actually bring in.
  • With the above in mind, I may just replace the players who won’t play or are minutes risks.
  • The players I am looking to move on include Issa Kabore, Azzedine Ounahi and Hazem Mastouri. For some reason the latter came off at half-time even after playing well.
  • I’ll probably look to bring in players from Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, or Angola, teams who have a good fixture next, then a Gameweek 3 fixture I think they could get something out of.

@Cosminalx5

NOTES

  • For Gameweek 2, I plan to use both free transfers. I want to move on players with tough fixtures or those who failed to impress in the opening game.
  • I took a hit with Steve Mounié. I only discovered his suspension after the deadline, despite predicted line-ups including him. A strange situation. He is not a priority sell, though. He returns for the match against Botswana, the lowest-ranked side in the group.
  • I may also move on Azzedine Ounahi. He struggled to make an impact and I worry about a possible benching.
  • Aside from that, the plan stays simple. If I pick up any injuries before the end of Matchday 1, those players will make way immediately.

NOTES

  • I came through Gameweek 1 in decent shape. The big win came from backing Idrissa Gana Gueye over Sadio Mané, with several other picks also delivering.
  • My Gameweek 2 approach stays similar to the current squad structure.
  • The first planned sale is Oswin Appollis at 6.0m. He faces Egypt in Gameweek 2, which I do not like as a fixture. His goal in the opener does not change that view. I may revisit him in Gameweek 3.
  • The second transfer out is Ali Abdi at 6.5m, who comes up against Nigeria. Even with penalty potential, the fixture puts me off.
  • The first incoming transfer is Fredy at 6.0m from Angola. He delivered eight points in Gameweek 1 and now faces Zimbabwe. He takes corners and some set pieces, which makes him a strong pick this week.
  • The defensive move remains open. My current plan targets Calvin Bassey at 7.0m, who faces Tunisia. That matchup suits a defensive profile and gives Nigeria a clear clean-sheet path.
  • I am also considering a different route. I could sell Dante at 4.0m and move to a defender from Angola or Equatorial Guinea, both of whom offer strong fixtures in Gameweek 2.

NOTES

  • I will make two transfers for Matchday 2.
  • I plan to sell Lawrence Mulenga and bring in Jesús Owono. I do not expect Mulenga to start, while Owono should.
  • I will also sell Soufiane Rahimi for Patson Daka. Again, this move replaces a likely non-starter with a player I expect to start and deliver.
  • I have also cooled on Hazem Mastouri. He came off at half-time in the last match, and I do not expect him to do well against Nigeria, even if he starts.
  • I feel very comfortable with the rest of the squad.
  • Matchday 2 looks tricky across AFCON. The strongest teams in each group now face each other, as do the weaker sides. Margins should stay tight. Targeting penalty takers and reliable centre-backs feels like the right approach for this round.

@BenZik0

NOTES

  • Round 2 brings a few headaches for my squad. Many of my players face each other, which complicates things. I could have avoided this with chips or tokens, but I do not have that option now.
  • I plan to make two transfers.
  • I will sell Soufiane Rahimi for Ayoub El Kaabi. I expect Rahimi to lose his place. He missed a penalty and looked short of confidence in the opening match, which did him no favours.
  • I will also move Kamory Doumbia on for Riyad Mahrez. Facing the host nation in your second game, after an underwhelming first outing, is far from ideal.
  • These plans are not locked. Any late news involving Achraf Hakimi could force a rethink.

@MOAubaaa

NOTES

  • The plan changed after Romain Saïss picked up an injury and Steve Mounié dropped out.
  • I will sell both and move to Jawad El Yamiq and Fashion Sakala.
  • Gameweek 2 looks difficult. Tight matches feel inevitable. I’m hoping the premium assets create enough chaos to get me through the round.

@FantasyHalf

NOTES

  • Gameweek 1 went reasonably well, but it fell short of perfect. Captaining Brahim Díaz on day one made a big difference.
  • My Gameweek 2 plans focus on tidying up mistakes. Many of the stronger teams face each other, so I want to reduce risk where I can.
  • Romain Saïss is injured and out. I will move to another Moroccan defender. Achraf Hakimi crossed my mind, but I expect managed minutes. For now, I plan to bring in Anass Salah-Eddine.
  • Yves Bissouma missed out through injury but has returned to training with the main group. If any doubt remains over his minutes, I will switch to Show from Angola in midfield.
  • Up front, Steve Mounié missed out through suspension. That one sits on me for not checking earlier. I expect him back, so I will avoid taking a hit.
  • Captaincy stays with Díaz again. I will adjust around that and hope he delivers another double-digit return.
