Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is live for the 2026/27 season, and the first draft team reveals keep coming in!

Here, Deputy Editor Tom Freeman discusses three players he is monitoring in pre-season. He also shares his first draft.

ALEXANDER ISAK

One of the main priorities for Andoni Iraola this season will be to get the best out of Alexander Isak (£9.0m).

The Swedish international declined in 2025/26, often feeding off scraps, but in the right system and environment, he should do well.

I think there’s a decent chance he’ll be on penalties, too.

“I think he has come in a good place. I think he was good in the World Cup. I saw him comfortable. First training [sessions] here, I think I’ve seen a good version of Alex.

“Still it’s very early because he has just started training, but I hope he can have some minutes against Leeds and build properly a proper pre-season.

“It’s not going to be very long but he will have three or four weeks of quality training, I hope, and we can put him in a good place because he is going to be massive for us this season.” – Andoni Iraola on Alexander Isak

I’m also interested in Dominik Szoboszlai (£7.0m) because a) he’s suited to Iraola-ball, b) he’s versatile and c) he’s cheap for what he does, so you’re getting value for money.

JOHAN MANZAMBI

There have been some major changes at Villa Park this summer, many of which have Fantasy implications.

Among the new arrivals, I’m mostly interested in Johan Manzambi (£6.0m), who has been brought in to replace Morgan Rogers (£7.5m).

He mostly played in the pivot for Freiburg last season, but I’m pretty sure Unai Emery won’t use him there. Instead, I think he’ll play as the No 10, in front of Boubacar Kamara (£5.0m) and Joao Gomes (£5.5m).

I think this position platforms him correctly from a Fantasy perspective, freeing him up to score and assist.

Looking at his time in Germany, Manzambi showed that he can create. He frequently found himself in good, central positions in/around the six-yard box, too, even playing in a deeper role.

Above: Johan Manzambi’s shot map in 2025/26, via Fotmob

Manzambi showed the capacity to play off Breel Embolo at the World Cup, effectively attacking space from deeper areas. I was really impressed by his performances and am hopeful he can quickly establish himself at Aston Villa.

Goodmorning all! Any insights on the Forest game? Was pretty keen on Neco and maybe Jesus, but four goals conceded seems pretty bad. Jesus scored again though

Ignore all pre-season “form”. It’s utterly meaningless. All that matters is the lineups

Yeah, I can't imagine my side without him.

Isak is super fun, but is he worth £1.5m more than Pedro? That's a ton of cash and it goes a long way elsewhere.

currently not on the man myself

can feel him breathing down my neck

but on the other hand a striker with no pens seems a chunk of change when you look at what 7.5 can get you in midfield and defence

also a danny welbeck shaped minutes taker there now (won't be many presumably, but could be just enough to be frustrating)

I'm looking for a few differentials. Can anyone recommend Tarik Muharemović for Leeds? Read some comments from their manager really praising him. Maybe 4.5 m and he would have been an option. Could be a bit pricey at 5m? Any Leeds fans view would be really appreciated

      I'm seriously tempted by Tarik

some silly stat I heard (admittedly from a Leeds fan) that if the season has started at the half time where they switched to a back three when they played city last season, they would've been in the Europe conversation

haven't checked it myself but from watching them a lot last year they seem a very solid outfit, with decent fixtures to boot

a big scrapper at the back in a strong unit, with Harry Wilson whipping in corners into his noggin - this is what my hopeful mind pictures at least

Looks a good player but similarly with Vuskovic who also looks like a real player, I just can't bring myself to pick players who have never played in the EPL before, wait and see I guess, one for the first WC.

Seems likely to be a def con beast - excellent stats from Serie A. If Leeds can get some consistent CS hes gonna be a very good pick. He seems priced correctly to me, 4.5 would be too cheap for what he can potentially offer.

Out of interest, what's the highest rating anyone has concocted on the free team rating tool on here? I've managed a 96 so far.
I have a feeling that this season is going to get very template, very quickly. I hope not though.

Not surprising that the best team you can make doesnt have Haaland. He is poor value unless he bangs in hatties in every single home game. Which of course could happen, but when thats what you need for him to be value its clear youre also very likely to be disappointed by what you get.

Agreed. Not sure whether I'll use this, but most of my tinkering didn't involve Haaland. I think I managed a 93 with Haaland-Bruno-Gabriel, but it didn't feel as solid.
Gonna try to play long term, like investing, this season. Or not at all. Too time consuming...

just too many 'maybes' for me

Calafiori / Cherki - deffo getting the minutes? maybe

Palmer / Isak - deffo hitting the heights we admittedly know they can? maybe

Is Wirtz actually going to be able to impose his quality in the prem? maybe

      BUT having said that

Palmer Wirtz Cherki could be incredibly fun, and a nice schism from the disciplined everymanroutestopoints approach that many are taking with the Bruno / Szobo axis

You're on the right path with strong defence, but Rodon is a lazy pick. I think he gets outscored by two of his CB partners. The same goes with Cherki. Foden "the pillar" is in everyone's team, but somehow Cherki is going to be a viable FPL asset too? I doubt it.

You're also on two double-ups in defence, and all of your defenders are from the top 6 bar Rodon. That's not necessarily bad for clean sheets, but a defensively oriented midtable team will always have defenders who are far more involved, and it will be reflected in points.

FPL are having a right laugh with Haaland's price aren't they. It seems they have completely overlooked the simple maths of it.

Over the 4 seasons Haaland has been in FPL, his average FPL pts score has been 226 and only once hitting a score over 250pts. In what way shape or form does that warrant a price of 15.5m? It's utterly scandalous. Completely disproportionate.

Mathematically for that price, you would need a guaranteed minimum of 300pts for the season which he hasn't got close to achieving in 3 years and even his best ever score of 272 in the 22/23 season is still some way short of 300pts. Salah got 344pts in the 24/25 season and was 14.5m last year.

Haaland is good but his actual FPL pts are not in any way aligned with a price of 15.5m.

      there's other things to consider

in the landscape where the next closest is a bruno at 12 the lack of definite premium alternatives means they had to hike him, otherwise he's an absolute lock for everyone and their neighbour

he's also currently what, 70% owned, so even at that price everyone is all over him, which is perhaps an indication he is perhaps too cheap

its the certainty you pay for and currently he's current the only who provides that, Bruno was brilliant last season, but is 20 odd assists repeatable? it might be but we don't know, what we do know is Haaland is on for 20 odd goals (again)

so it's not his points that matter per say, but what he provides in the context of everyone else who is available

      1. gooberman
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

You don't (or certainly shouldn't) 'hike' a players price just because of a lack of other premiums. What sort of nonsense is that? Only statistics/previous FPL performances should dictate player prices, nothing else. FPL seem to price players now according to what they want their ownership to be which is total nonsense.

If he's 70% owned at that price then that's a lot of people playing the game wrong who don't understand simple maths. It's not purely about the amount of goals Haaland scores, it's FPL points, he rarely assists. You think 20 odd goals is enough for 15.5m? Maybe if he got 20 odd assists with it and a total FPL score in excess of 300pts he would be somewhere close to justifying that price but only once in 4 seasons has he even got remotely close to 300pts.

by all means go without him my man

the true beauty of this game is that all questions get answered eventually

i only fear that without the big man you'll be watching those answers roll in from behind the sofa, again, and again, and again

Nah. I think it's an irrational fear. Of course there will be individual weeks where he hauls but there are also plenty of weeks where he blanks or maybe just gets 6pts. The maths of it and his price in terms of his season performances to date just don't compute.

I didn't have Haaland at all in the 24/25 season and finished top 10k.

There is also the added factor that Pep is no longer there. You would have to think that has to have a detrimental effect on how City will function.

            1. Malcolm Tucker
              • 5 Years

would expect a drop off from city as a whole with the pep loss agreed, but I don't think it'll be too much and apart from Arsenal all the other contenders are in transition too

will be plenty of weeks that he blanks i'm sure, equally sure there will be plenty where he doesn't but the lack of having to guess or predict a decent captain every week i think is worth a premium price, as langerz says below with the armband you're effectively getting double value, or two 7.75 mill strikers who are more likely than not going to bag 20plus, everyone is all over JPed at 7.5, he's never bagged more than 15

As a 'value' pick Haaland is below average, but as a 'captain' pick Haaland is elite.
Captaining Haaland (which you would do most weeks) effectively doubles his value.

I would argue Bruno is more overpriced than Haaland, as 24 assists was clearly an anomaly season. His average points from the four previous season is around 167 points - which does not justify a £12.0 price-tag (value would be 13.92).

      1. Malcolm Tucker
        • 5 Years

        absolutely and a great point

if he does get those 20 odd goals, you get 40 goals worth of points

stick that in your value calculator lad!

        1. Brosstan
          • 11 Years

Most value calculations Ive made havent had Haaland show up at all actually. In almost any given GW you will have an option of two players like Bruno (C) + X who will outscore Haaland (C) + Y.

          1. Malcolm Tucker
            • 5 Years

            resist the calculation!

Haaland removes a level of uncertainty on his side of the calculation

you are of course correct than in any given week the funds allocated to Haaland + x would've been better given to alternate captain + Y, but it's a lucky man who picks that right more times than wrong

I also have Bruno quite far above Haaland for value and would like to go without Haaland. But the alternatives at the higher price points are just not giving me anything close to the total number of points.

for now the certainty is the thing

perfectly conceivable a few weeks from now that Isak, Palmer, Saka all return to their very reliable best, then there's a convo to be had about Haaland, but until then i don't see why you wouldn't have the viking batting for you

Hes in almost every team on here and every content creator's. As long as thats the case there is no reason to price him down.

And Im not sure why you are so mad about this. If you think hes poor value, priced too highly but everyone owns him anyway, shouldnt you be happy that everyone is making a bad decision (in your opinion).

Do you want him priced lower so that even with your assessment, hes priced accordingly? If he was any lower he would have literally 100% ownership among serious managers. Its close to that already.

Just watching Pras' recent Wire video, it's very interesting.

So WC4 is an enticing option, as long as you roll all the way so you have 4FT out of the IB heading into GW6.
That opens up the door for more punts as it's only three GWs, and less Chelsea as the Arsenal game is one third of their fixtures you will have them for. Stacking up on City, Liverpool and United and even some Sunderland before their GW4 swings. I moved JP up to Isak and have also gone for Foden. And if there is not enough info for WC4, there's an option to delay to GW6 and FH in GW4 to avoid the Manchester derby and stack up on Chelsea.

Yeah that’s a great idea tbf, would be a lot more fun playing your own game.

Would there be any negatives to that?

Not seeing Semenyo in many drafts. Any particular reason?

I have him. Totally understand why others don't - new manager, unknown if he's a guaranteed starter, plenty of competition in the squad, other good options around 7-9mil. For me though, he has the biggest upside of all those minds so I'll see what happens in first couple of weeks and move over to Mbuemo/Cunha/Rogers/Palmer if needed

That was my plan too. Although the extra 1.5m to spend if you start with Foden is tempting too.

I'm starting to wonder if ARS defence is potentially bad value for the start of the season. After COV it's 2 tough games then 2 away games.

If you had 5.5-6mil to spend on a premium DEF, would the ManCity backline actually be better?

      buss down thotiana

agreed, if Gvardiol is fit to start he's the choice cut

arsenal lacking rice and saliba lose quite a bit of stability

I think this is all just a game to get an improved contract with Madrid.

Would be exciting for the league though.

If it happened, what price would he be?

Am I right in saying his attacking returns in LaLiga (an easier league than the EPL) are a goal or assist every 2 games?

Quite like this draft. Thoughts? Bench is weak but all are at least projected to be starters for their teams

    Raya
    Gabriel Muharemovic Shaw
    Bruno Szobo LeFee Ndiaye
    Haalad Pedro DCL

    4.0; Slater, Diop, Thomas

      Great starting XI.

How many clean sheets do you think Arsenal keep with no Saliba in those first 6 fixtures?

Not seeing Thiago in many teams here, is there any real reason for that? Currently I am on Isak, and considering moving to Thiago and using the 1M elsewhere.

I'm not on either but in answer i would go thiago and the 1mill, with a wait and see on Isak

8mill just seems a lot when JPed is at 7.5, and historically strikers have been weak value compared to the other positions, look at what you can get in midfield with that 8 mill distributed

I suppose that the main reason is that Pedro might be better value at a slightly lower price.

Bruno (c) 1 & 2 for me. So I'll spread the Haaland money and bench boost in one of these weeks.

Free hit GW3 and load up on City, Villa and Pool.

    Wildcard week 4.

Seen this strategy talked about a bit. Seems good to me if planning to swerve Haaland for the first 2 weeks.

Easy header at the far post tbh. Nice inswinging cross from Gittens from the left, and Estevao wins the race against Robertson to head the ball.
