In this article, we run down your chip options for the first half of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2026/27 season.

We look at the best windows to use the Wildcard, Bench Boost, Triple Captain and Free Hit.

Of course, a lot of this will be ‘team dependent’. However, we thought we’d provide some general guidance in this piece.

Remember, the first set of chips must be used before the Gameweek 19 deadline, or you will lose them.

WILDCARD

Using your Wildcard early can help you react quickly to new trends. This could be especially important this year, given the influx of new managers in the top-flight.

From here, you can recruit players who have impressed in the early weeks and ride the price changes, at a time when the transfer market is traditionally much more volatile.

You can fix any mistakes with your initial team, addressing issues before you fall too far behind.

GAMEWEEK 4

For those managers who want to go early, Gameweek 4 could be a nice window to pencil in.

Firstly, the transfer window will be closed (it shuts on Tuesday 1 September, ahead of Gameweek 3).

Manchester United and Sunderland players could potentially be moved on at this point and replaced with Chelsea assets, who kick off an appealing run of fixtures at home to Hull City.

Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle United all enjoy decent runs from Gameweek 4, too, so an early squad overhaul could pay off.

GAMEWEEK 6

If you want to leave it a bit longer and gain further insights/information, Gameweek 6 has appeal.

It follows the first international break of the season, which this year lasts for three weeks. That gives you plenty of time to tinker and analyse the data from the first five rounds of matches.

It also allows you to react to any injury issues picked up on international duty. And given that it’s a three-week break, there is plenty of time for your players to pick up problems!

Fulham play the three promoted teams in succession at this point. So, it could be a good entry point for Alvaro Arbeloa’s men, should they start well.

LOOKING FURTHER AHEAD

The second and final international break of 2026 takes place ahead of Gameweek 11. Thankfully, this one only lasts for a couple of weeks!

Looking further ahead, you could of course save the Wildcard for later, either when your squad needs an overhaul due to injuries, suspensions etc, or simply to target fixture swings, which you can identify here.

Gameweek 12, for example, looks like a decent time to hop on Liverpool assets.

Thoughts on this BB gw2 squad with the view to move on Utd and Sun players come gw4 or WC gw4.

Community shield review for the likes of Guehi. Hume will only be there if a RW isn’t signed.

    Lammens
    Guehi, Shaw, Hume
    Semenyo, Mbuemo, Wirtz, Le Fee
    Haaland, Isak, Pedro

    Rushworth, Sangare, Thomas, Van Ew

    Thank you

Like the Sangare punt, I was thinking the same but maybe it is just a wait and see until we definitly know he can transfer his DEFCON s from Ligue 1 to the Prem

I think I’m happy with this team, inevitably will change before the final deadline.

    Raya
    Gvardiol, vuskovic, maguire
    Szobo, rogers, le fee, Bruno
    Dcl, Haaland, JP

    4m, kayode, slater, Thomas

Do you think vuskovic is a starter from gw1,
If so looks great for defcon and not bad fixtures

Looking at how Hurzlers eased in previous new signings, my guess would be Vuskovic doesnt start Gw1

This is where I have landed for a BB2 but also no firm WC out team. Think this rotates well first 5 weeks, GW6 is a soft WC spot but will also ideally have 3-4 FT's by then. Injuries/Unexpected roles always a caveat.

    Kinsky
    Mosquera, Gvardiol, Shaw
    Bruno, Szobo, Foden, Le Fee
    Haaland, Pedro, DCL

    Rushworth, Muharemovic, Gross, Thomas

Interested in Sangare and Vuskovic but both feel like early watches and I have alternatives in the price point, Muhar the risky option of the 3 ive taken because I feel he is slightly more nailed (though Sangare has to be nailed doesnt he?). Will WC into a 4.5 MID/FWD and 4.0 GK but for BB2 and early rotations I am happy with a 5.5 as my cheapest attacker. Still feels like my DEF is quite strong with 2x 5.5/5/4.5/4.0. Anything sticking out as a bad move here? Benching a 5.0 DEF GW1 feels a little yuck but Shaw v Hull, Le Fee v Ipswich both feel better plays and then its a matter of DCL v Muhar for the final spot, I think ill take DCL's certainty of role GW1.

All feedback welcome, apologies for war and peace its my first draft of the preseason ive posted and been happy with so had a bit to get off my chest thoughts wise.

      Nice team 🙂

Agree with Muharemovic over Vuskovic as I feel with the latter being only 19, new to the PL etc. he'll be eased in?

Would you do Shaw ➡️ Hume if Hall got a move to Man Utd?

      1. The Pretender

Tend to agree on Vusk, but if he is nailed he's in quickly for me. Also looked at Jaquet but think ill watch there too.

I am open to any of the 4.5's - Brentford boys look good too. Definitely wont be keeping Shaw if Hall moves that's a certainty!

Yeah, I'd take him in a heartbeat too! Jaquet I had in a draft, but took him out as he's coming back from an injury and there are better £5m defenders out there that have better DefCon stats.

There isn't a £4.5m that I like enough to put in atm, but I have added Kaglioglu, Ajer, and Hume to my Watchlist. Even Shaw I had in a draft but when I see 38G 1g/1a and poor DefCons it puts me off, so went Maguire instead.

          Good luck with it all!

If Shaw had literally any other combo in GW1 and 2 I wouldnt even look at him. Will be hoping a better 4.5 arises shortly.

Foden & Pedro and spend the extra elsewhere for me. I am not sold on Semenyo playing wider (lower xG potentially), and Palmer I would like to watch early to see how he starts and jump on at fixture swing (GW4).

Bournemouth can score against anyone, though. Look at Semenyo away to the then champions last season. It's their defence I wouldn't go near.

It’s not wrong to consider anyone now, it’s the decision that you make after considering. If he’s fit and firing he’s certainly going to be a good asset, but the biggest reservation about Kluivert is that he seems to have too many injuries, similar to Isak.

Arsenal fan here. He will likely be in the first XI but that doesn’t mean he’s nailed. He’s been brought in so that Zubimendi/Rice can get more rest than they did last year, but Merino, Lewis-Skelly, Bruno G, Zubimendi, and Rice all good enough to start important games, so expect him to play most minutes, but maybe not all

What you think of Non Haaland bb1 team

    Lammens verbrugen
White van dijk gvardiol porro Tarkowski
Tel Bruno (c) Gross mbuemo Wirtz
    Isak Pedro Calvert Lewin

Don’t see the point in Haaland if I’m not going to have him captain, and Bruno has the better fixtures
