With FPL Gameweek 3 just a day away, it’s time to see how one of our top managers is approaching the next round.

This time, we hear from Hall of Famer Dan Wright, who talks us through his squad, planned transfers and the key decisions ahead of the Gameweek 3 deadline.

Despite only starting playing FPL in 2012/13, Dan has 10 finishes inside the top 50k, of which five were inside the top 10k.

Gameweek 2 went very well, as captain Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) helped propel me to a score of 130 points. Of those, 18 came from my Bench Boost, which is roughly what I hoped the chip would deliver.

I'd play both but of the two probably Palmer, just.

But whichever you bench they have the potential to punish you.

Interested to see who is already on your pitch if you are choosing to bench one of them!

Chelsea will offer a significant test for Arsenal this weekend, a huge step-up from Coventry and a decimated Villa team. The eye test on Arsenal's defence is very strong, but part of me wonders if they looked better because their opposition was weak.

I'd also add that Declan Rice looked injured when he was subbed off on 85 mins, Mosquera also went off injured on 79 mins to join Timber and Saliba on the sidelines. So Arsenal's defence isn't a nailed-on clean sheet at all this week.

I can see another high-scoring match. Arsenal will likely win, but are much more likely to concede this week. Calafiori still look like a great option due to routes to points.

      Two Elanga's 🙂

I'm going No Haaland so my current thinking for an IB wildcard is a front eight of Saka, Bruno, MGW, Palmer, Sangare, Wissa, Pedro & Thiago. In my estimation that means one downgrade in my team compared to yours (Haaland), three agreements (Palmer, Wissa & Pedro) and four potential upgrades (Saka, Bruno, MGW & Sangare) depending on who Elanga 2 actually is 🙂

I think Saka's the only Arsenal attacker really worth owning. He's had a bit of bother with injuries in the last couple of seasons but as long as he's fit and playing (like now) he'll usually give you an attacking return and some unexpected DefCons.

Van Cuyper worth the extra over Ajer?

    1. GoonerSteve
      1 month, 17 days ago

Ajer looks solid and a good source of regular defcons. De Cuyper has rhe higher ceiling with potential for attacking returns. Short term he looks better but his minutes will be under threat when Mitoma returns mid to late September.

    Benching headache this week:

    Kinsky
    Calafiori, Shaw, Ballard
    Cherki, BrunoF, Szo, nDiaye
    Pedro, DCL, Haaland

    Verbruggen, Gros, DeCuyper,Davis

I think Leeds score, hence benching DeCuyper over Shaw, Everton have lost Ndiaye too, so MUN chance of clean sheet perhaps vs Everton.
If nDiaye doesn't score Gros comes off the bench.

    So TL;DR
    Play 1:
    a) nDiaye vs Coventry (presumes he plays)
    b) Gros

Both look good options at 4.5. Newcastle fixtures are decent for the next few weeks so maybe Dedic. Ajer looks a good source of defcons though.

I feel like there's a bit of an echo chamber going on with the FPL influencers currently.

For me, the team with the best run over the next 4 weeks is Forest. This doesn't agree with the FFS ticker, but they play the bottom four teams. If I was WCing, I would be considering MGW, Igor Jesus and Neco Williams.

Most WC squad reveals seem very shy on Liverpool players. We don't have a lot of data on all the teams so far, but surely this weekend a punt on Liverpool players is a safe bet? They play the team with the most big chances conceded so far this season in Ipswich. If I was on Free Hit, I'd probably have 3x attack. Gakpo is on form and will want to impress this weekend to win over the crowd after he almost left. They then face Fulham and Bournemouth, who sit 4th and 6th for big chances conceded so far this season.

Ditching Bruno and Mbeumo (top 2 players for xGI this season) seems daft when the suggestion is to bring in a City midfielder. I do think City will win big this weekend, but I'm not convinced on anyone but Haaland in terms of 90 minutes from the attackers. Too many options to be certain. United play Everton, who have been very leaky this season and have lost two key players.

Optimal play this week is Haaland TC and no transfers. We can gather more data and make better and more informed decisions in a week. TC has the most upside as many active players have ALREADY activated their wildcard to rush to bring in Cherki and a few others. They can't TC as a result.

      Currently

They've followed the same path for years!

A quick look at Great and Good transfers, captains and often chip use shows you that too.

Even FPL General is back in the fold and leading the way!

Like a good shepherd, in with the sheep.

The wisdom of the crowd is a thing.

    2. H Dog
      1 month, 17 days ago

This is great advice, even this website can become an echo chamber!!

MGW definitely stands out, but not sure Jesus or Neco have done enough to warrant attention. Guessing most choosing Man City midfielder as wildcarding soon, but if not wildcarding soon then MGW should be in the team

Liverpool still a team in progress, so think I’d want a bit more certainty for 3x attack (even Man City attack this week feels risky), szob and Isak/wirtz enough

The stronger the template talk becomes

    3. GoonerSteve
      1 month, 17 days ago

      I agree.

In my case, despite playing the game for over 15 years, I kneejerked Cherki and Palmer into my team, replacing Bruno and Ndiaye, ahead of Utd's fixture. I then decided to.wildcard Bruno back in again!

I fully regret it, but hoping my wildcard team pays off. Schoolboy error.

    4. AC/DC AFC

      Tbf

That's people who set up with Bruno over Haaland.

A chip, rather than a hit to get Haaland in looks a reasonable call atm.

Everton have been lucky, rather than leaky so far.

Forest wildcard I'd have MGW and Munoz in.

      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I stand by most of what I said here and it mainly came true. Cherki disappointed and the City line-up was full of surprises, Mbeumo scored (though Bruno didn't!), Gakpo did want to prove himself and bagged two assists and some bonus points, and briefly Neco Williams was the best player of the week until his goal was ruled out (a fairly dubious decision!).

I'm now just outside the top 20k globally, having ignored the majority of the FPL influencer crowd and I'm still yet to make a transfer (though I am two chips down!).

Tzolis to Anderson? Short term and feels fairly safe for mins

Does anyone have NO Haaland and also NOT playing FH/WC this week?

    Current team

    Verb (Roefs)
Cala NOR De Cuyper (White Diop)
    Bruno Szob Cherki Semenyo (Tzolis)
    Pedro Isak DCL

Looks like I can still afford a good WC team GW4. Liverpool have Ipswich so an Isak haul could minimise the Haaland damage.

    Am I mad?

In for a penny, might as well keep being behind the sofa for Man City games

I do back Isak to score but no more

      I’d play white over DCL

Who to start this week, either:

    A) Maguire vs EVE (A)
    or
    B) JP vs ARS (A)

    Thanks

Keep coming back to this Threemium WC draft.

    Verbruggen
    Calafiori - Muharemovic - Konsa - Dedic - Egan
    Bruno - Palmer - Cherki - Sangare - Slater
    Haaland - Pedro - Wissa

    Thoughts?

On WC I’d go Foden and then spread funds (more secure mins)

      Upgrade slater or muha

Otherwise players like Konsa, Sangare and gross make this possible

Looks sweet but what are your thoughts in Bruno vs Saka

Hi all, thoughts on what to do here? 2FT, 0ITB. Should I bring in a City mid or just roll? Is Tzolis a weak point?

Was considering Tzolis & Maguire > Foden & Konsa / Dedic. Like the idea of triple ARS defence but maybe not this week?

    Maguire, Calafiori, Ajer
    Bruno, Mbeumo, Tzolis, Szboszlai
    Haaland, Pedro, DCL

      I’m going Tzolis to Anderson

Going against the cherki hype - admittedly partly because it’s a simple move as no money in bank
