THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN UPDATED ON FRIDAY AFTER ITS INITIAL THURSDAY PUBLICATION

Our team of contributors are returning as we count down to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 3 deadline.

This time, we hear from FPL General, who shares his Gameweek 3 Free Hit team.

General, aka Mark, is no longer shackled by the Haaland-less experiment of 2025/26! He has three top 500 finishes to his name, as well as a further nine inside the top 50k.

He currently sits at 16k in the world.

Gameweek 2 Review

Gameweek 3 FPL 16k

The Troops have kicked off the 2026/27 campaign in style! After the first two Gameweeks, the overall rank is 16k. I can’t remember ever starting this well, which has me very excited for the season ahead. Owning Erling Haaland (£15.5m) is a lot less stressful than going without him, that’s for sure!

That Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) 23-pointer will be forever remembered in FPL folklore. It was great to be on him with the armband. Well done to those who Triple Captained him! It didn’t even cross my mind after the poor performance from United in Gameweek 1. His teammate, Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m), produced the goods too and it should’ve been even more; how he missed that chance from a yard or two out, I will never understand! The plan was to ship him out for a Manchester City midfielder this week but the 11-pointer and another 90 minutes have given me second thoughts about that.

The double Arsenal defence came through again. I’m so glad I showhorned two of them in before the Gameweek 1 deadline. The early substitution for Martin Odegaard (£6.6m) has me concerned, though. I’m more inclined to keep Mbeumo over him now. Losing the Norwegian would open the door for triple Arsenal defence. The ridiculously priced Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) could come in to replace the injured Joe Rodon (£4.5m) for Gameweek 4. That would push Luke Shaw (£4.5m) to the bench as my 4th defender (which I like).

    Morning all. WC team ready.

    Sels
    Calafiori - Williams - Dedic
    Cherki - Foden - Szoboszlai - Sangare
    Haaland - Pedro - Wissa

    Hornicek - Palmer - Konsa - Muharemovic

BB 5 and then get Bruno in 6 is the plan.

I want threemium team from GW 6 onwards.

    Will do Sels + Williams + Cherki + Foden ➡ Bruno + Slater + Egan + 4m GK in GW 6 with 4 z a FTs.

May keep one of the City mids over Szobo if they look like starting GW 7.

Thoughts? Any changes to the bench this GW? 🙂

If you are going to BB in GW5, Konsa is a gamble.

Waiting to hear Arteta. If Mosquera is out for this week, then Konsa starts and cements his place for the foreseeable. He is England centre back who’s come in for big money not to sit on the bench. Arteta seems to have pushed that transfer as well.

If Mosquera is passed fit to start, then it’s a bit of a pickle as he hasn’t done anything wrong to get dropped. I’ll just downgrade Williams to Mykolenko and Upgrade Konsa then.

"He is England [player] who’s come in for big money not to sit on the bench"

          Just like Eze and Madueke

Madueke is slightly different in that he was always going to be an understudy for saka, same is true at international level.
Eze is too inconsistent which is why he'll rarely start for England. You can get away with that when you play for palace but not Arsenal.
Konsa might end up being an understudy for Saliba but not Mosquero in my opinion.

My point was "big money + international" doesn't guarantee starts these days and it's archaic to still think so

Fair point since the original comment did just say england players.
I think there's a difference between internationals that are likely to warm the bench and those that regularly start.

Sorry, my mistake. The original comment clearly makes reference to konsa being a starter for England. Same doesnt apply for Eze or Madueke.

Having strong recollections of going against the grain and not banking on the obvious choice for captain (or triple captain) and making huge rank gains against the masses. In fact, can recollect it strongly from just last season and going against / without Haaland from early doors. Tempted.

I'll just do Neale's job for him, shall I?

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on Dominik Szoboszlai moving to right-back: "Since I started, I have spoken to a lot of players about positions they prefer to play. I haven't found any situation where a player has said he doesn't want to play here or there. Everyone has shown the right attitudes.

"I more or less know their preferred positions. We have discussions but everyone is ready to help.

"If we have to play Szoboszlai as a right winger, as a right-back, left-back, I think he is ready to do it. He wants to help the team first.

"It is good to have players who can cover different positions. We have some injuries now and we need the versatility of players like Dom. It is valuable as even in the game they have to change positions."

One thing I have noticed is Foden is more preferred to Maresca than Cherki. It's early days but so far that is what I can gather. Is going with Foden in the medium term better than Cherki? Cherki though if nailed is still the better option imo

Do you think Ndiaye will be better though? Some players do well in mid teams until they go to top teams with proper competition and they fail to impress. He was not even a starter in the WC in a decent Senegal team, same in AFCON games where he didn't start many.

Cherki reminds me a bit of of Eden Hazard in that he seems to play for the fun of it and probably hasnt changed his style much to when he was a kid playing in the street. Im not sure how well he takes on board tactical instructions and for that reason he's a risk in fpl. he's one flashy trick that doent come off from being substituted.

he is an amazing player and I think theres not many like him left in the game but it seems he annoys managers (seemingly off the pitch to) and could well be hooked for not doing what he was told. he's carried a reputation with him since his Lyon days. and for that Im still undecided on him or Foden.

Yeah same here, but Foden seems to be liked a lot by Maresca, we know what Phil is capable of when he gets going.

I watched Liverpool in their 2 games, and they were average. There was no fluidity in their attack and the build up was not fast enough.

Szobo is on pens and take set pieces/free kicks/also gets defcons, that's the main reason he is on many peoples teams but is there a better option at around the same price than him?

Hi, my son currently resides in the top 20 in the world.
We have been watching fpl raptor and harry on YouTube and as much as i love their material theyre a bit long winded for him as he struggles with paying attention for more than 5 minutes.
What are your recommendations for shorter style videos he can watch to make informed decisions before the deadline day?
    Thanks

Has he considered reading instead? An obvious example would be the article on this site that rounds up the press conference news and updates it throughout the day. Very handy

Not sure what he needs to stay informed on, sorry. Not a lot happening through the week. Deadline day is the where 90% of the information is/can be executed on. That’s why many videos are long-winded, to make content out of nothing or talk about their own teams.

For a quick round up of stats, if that’s something he’s looking for, I don’t know if anything that short (I avoid YT shorts like the plague to protect my own attention), but you could try FPL Focal. I think his vids are fairly short and he’s a nice guy. You just run the risk of herd mentality and diminishing the enjoyment of the game. Who am I to judge, though? I just do whatever FPL Virgin tells me to

Thanks, yes i agree most of them are a hard watch. Thats why i was looking for recommendations.
I'll give fpl focal a blast.
            Cheers

Obviously depends who your alternatives are, but I would say Ndiaye gets the last 25mins at best.
Which isn't really that bad an option [other options dependant].
      Then get rid of him.

No Liverpool, No Newcastle, No Haaland ...

Just 1 FT and 3 possible benchings in my current squad, does that point to FH?

Squad for context, not necessarily how I would set the bench.

      Pickford
      Calafiori Mukiele Gvardiol
      BrunoF Mbeumo Tzolis Semenyo
      Havertz Thiago João Pedro

      Steele Ndiaye Mitchell Aina

        I don't think I need to wildcard.

But a FH sorts Haaland out without a hit.

I think the FH is better for me, rolls the transfer and lets me know more about Ndiaye and some of the issues I have like Aina or Munoz starting for Forest.

I've also got an extra £1m itb which I can use on either approach.

I really think it's far too early to splurge the first wildcard.

So many new managers and players, lots to settle in squads.

Which do you prefer for this week?

    A) Fernandes (c), Isak, Foden
    B) Haaland (c), Pedro, Schade

I'm leaning A but can be convinced if Haaland really is essential. WC next week so it's purely just this week.

What's the general consensus on Tzolis?

I'm likely Wildcarding next week, but have a FT spare so could replace him this week (6.9m itb), or alternatively play Hume instead.

Schade, Gros, Elanga, Sangare and KDH are on the shortlist.

Interesting Telegraph comments today, though not sure if they ITK at all really:

"They have, nonetheless, paid top whack for Fernández, Anderson (£116m from Nottingham Forest) and the 18-year-old Bouaddi, whom Lille had initially wanted to keep on loan for a season. City were opposed to that and expect the £86m signing – Rodri’s long-term replacement in the No 6 role – to feature prominently this season. Anderson is viewed more as a No 8.

City feel well stocked in most areas, although an injury to Erling Haaland would leave them short of a recognised centre-forward, in which case Semenyo would be deployed as a makeshift No 9."
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/09/03/man-city-enzo-fernandez-chelsea-bluff-spurs-transfers-deal/?ICID=continue_without_subscribing_reg_first

I.e. if it's Bouaddi #6 eventually and Anderson #8, does that push Enzo to be competing for #10 spot? Sounds like Maresca really wanted him and they paid top dollar. City mids feels like a headache soon!

    Verbruggen
    Calafiori, Maguire, O’Reilly
Grob, B. Fernandes (V), Mbeumo, Ndiaye
    Haaland (C), Brobbey, João Pedro

    Kinsky, Gomez, Davis, Rodon

    2 FT, £0.0m ITB

Ideally, I would have swapped Mbeumo for Cherki on Friday. I want to avoid wildcarding this early. Any suggestions?

Keeping Mbuemo for this GW really isn’t a bad choice. It’s more FOMO for city players. It also depends when you’re playing WC.

Personally I’d pick Cherki or Foden and change Ndiaye.

      1. FantasyFooty01
        • 8 Years

I’m short for both Foden and Cherki unfortunately, so I’d have to make a couple of moves to get there.

I’ve already made 1FT for Mbuemo > Cherki for this GW before WC next week. Going to TC this week atm.

Is it worth making the extra transfer to up shaw/ DCL to City def or Wissa this week, or simply roll and add them WC next week?

(Only other option is to WC now, have 3FT from next week and TC against Haaland against Hull instead.)
