We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

    Which is better?

    A) Gilks, Ivanovic, McShane, Sanchez, Giroud

    B) Pantili, Monreal, Fabregas, Cambiasso, Kane

Slightly confused - the first one has 2 defenders and 1 midfielder, the second has 1 defender and 2 midfielders.

Haha, if there were 10 weeks left and I was the only one with a wildcard I'd start to wonder but that's too big a gap to bridge now I think. I'll stick with my tactic of aiming for as many points as I can - rank follows naturally 🙂

Depends whether you have lots of injuries, players not playing etc. which you would need a WC to properly fix.

If you're pretty well set up for this GW and have a plan for the run in I would put you as favourite. Then again, it's by no means a sure thing.

At the moment massive. I have fairly template.

I have Sanchez Aguero Hazard Silva. He can't afford 2 of them without severely weakening in other areas.
Liverpool choices will be significant IMO

Whatever Che/Pool players he has/can afford, just cover him this week. I have a 101 & 151 point lead in both my cash leagues BUT still don't feel safe even with my team:

          K Davis
          Ivanovic Skrtel Bertrand
          Haz (C) Silva Hendo Sterling
          Kane Aguero Giroud

Well Dufflinks is another one for sure 😉 Haven't looked into it but I'm hoping there aren't too many.

Made a quick draft yesterday but will definitely tinker further - have the same Liverpool midfielder dilemma as everyone (although I'm also mulling over Ibe just for added complication). Will end up looking pretty template for a WCT but that's fine by me.

Another decent week for you - chasing down that top 500 place I see 🙂

Yeah probably can't afford a massive red arrow but I'm confident of having a solid DGW team this week with no hits. Better than some thats for sure.

No hits will mean you're already another 4/8/12 points ahead of a lot of teams around you this week - great position to be in.

I think so. Planning on 3-5-2 if Silva is fit, with Kane on the bench for Silva if he doesn't play.

My feelings are the 3 pool mids effectively cover any clean sheet that others will get from their defenders or migs.

I'll make decision later in the week

    Morning Gents,

Hows this looking for a WC team? Trying to set up for both doubles and the rest of the season equally.

    Schmeichel
    Moreno Ivanovic Alderweireld
    Sanchez Sterling(vc) Hazard(c) Coutinho
    Aguero Giroud Kane

    Bench: Phillips VanAanholt Cameron

Not going for a DGW striker because nobody appeals to me and I like my fwd line.
Only 2 Chelsea could be a risk but I don’t want to double up at the back and I would rather have Sterling than Fab in midfield.

    Any thoughts welcome 🙂

          Hi Kaizer,

Monreal is arguably the most improved player at Arsenal this season and looks to have the left-back berth nailed down for PL fixtures. Gibbs played in the cup, but looked pretty rusty and I would imagine it was more to give Monreal a rest. Both Bellerin and Chambers will be under threat from Debuchy, though he also looked off the pace against Reading.

Thoughts on this WC team ?

    Mignolet/Myhill
van Aanholt, Skrtel, Terry, Vlaar, Morgan
    Hazard, Silva, Sterling, Fàbregas, Cambiasso
    Vardy, Kane, Agüero

4.2 ITB for Vardy to Giroud GW35

Mignolet just because I'd rather have 3 Arsenal attackers.

      The better question is this
Would you prefer Ramsey or Ospina? Because by getting a defending asset you'd lose an attacking asset from Arsenal
I'm going Migno just for the sake of rambo alexis Giroud

I'm not getting Sanchez. Ramsey/Ozil and Giroud are better value so I'm going for them. If I get Ospina he'll be my 3rd arsenal, if I get Mignolet I'll just have 2 Arsenal

Ospina, but he limits my Arsenal picks. So Mignolet.

    Is no news good news?

With the likes of Silva, Aldy, Dawson picking up 'injuries' this weekend, are we more likely to hear from the clubs today or tomorrow if the injuries are serious, and perhaps hear nothing if they will be fine for the weekend?

    1. Doolittle

With Jones, Alde, Dawson and Silva, I could do with some news!

    My DGW team with WC:

    Schmeichel
    Schlupp - Terry - Moreno
    Haz - Fab - Cout - Silva - Sterling
    Agüero - Vardy

    Bench: Ospina, Kane, Alderweireld, Aanholt.

With this team I have Ospina and Aanholt for GW37. I will also do Cout, Fab and Kane to Giroud, Alexis and cheapo to get three from Arsenal for DGW. Thoughts?

    1. DF
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 8 months ago

I like it. Will you play Kane again though? I expect you'll want Giroud for Hull so instead of benching Kane, can't you get Giroud in now? Or will you need a hit in 35?

      1. Fantasyamateur
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 8 months ago

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting rid of Kane. Maybe for Benteke first, then Giroud in for 36 or 37? Can't to it financially yet though.. Unless Silva is injured and I can sell. Only 0.6 in the bank with the team above..

        1. Eze Really?
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 8 months ago

I am almost hoping Silva is injured because all my opposition have him and it will give me a gateway for Vardy/Giroud GW 35.

Yeah, same. However, City have nice fixts. Maybe Navas could be a good replacement for Silva? Regardless of Silva being back this weekend? Navas on corner duties as well..
