The final week of the August transfer window gave new QPR owner Tony Fernandes plenty chance to splash the cash and he didn’t fail to disappoint. There’s no doubt Neil Warnock’s side have strengthened substantially over the last couple of weeks and last season’s Championship winners will approach an upcoming kind run of games with renewed confidence.

Despite the acquisition of Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips, it’s Adel Taarabt who blinks loudest on our Fantasy radars and as a result, the Moroccan ranks high on the Watchlist. He may have returned just 9 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points so far this season, but Taarabt has been a threat throughout and is a little unlucky not to have picked up more substantial hauls. He’s had more goal attempts than any QPR player- his tally is just one shot less than David Silva- and has also hit the woodwork as well as creating the same number of goal scoring opportunities as the likes of Charlie Adam.

The clincher here is his set-piece duties; Barton’s arrival will give Warnock’s side a quality corner kick taker but Taarabt -priced at 6.5 in FPL- still looks nailed-on for direct free-kicks and penalties and looks likely to offer a greater attacking potential than any of his team mates.

QPR may have scored just one goal so far this campaign but the increase in quality arrivals should make them a different proposition altogether. If Warnock’s new-look side are to beat the drop, they will need to replicate the sort of form that saw them make Loftus Road something of a fortress last season. With four home games in the next six-(NEW, wol, AVL, ful, BLA, CHE)- Fernandes will be hoping his August investment is about to prove dividend.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Wildcard to:

    Given (Vorm)
    Kompany Enrique Bosingwa Woodgate (Simpson)
    Young Silva Sessegnon (Moses)(Dyer)
    RvP Suarez Adebayor

    Thoughts?

Midfield looks a tad dodgy but I still think Sess and Moses are playing well enough to justify keeping faith in them.

Not sure long term, but tempted to say yes until Liverpool are a clearer picture with Gerrard back and Suarez actually starts getting 90 minutes and scores moe than 7 points in a game. It's a toss up but with coming fixtures and Pool not in amazing form that's what I'm doing.

Worth 4-point hit for Taarabt and 9.9 mid in for NZog and Sess?

    How's this for a team:

    Pyatov Gutor(BATE)
    Pique Luisao A.Santos Abraham Limbersky(Plzen)
    Young Gotze Hazard Guarin Shaqiri
    Rooney RVP Gomez

Obviously no RM or Barcelona attack which is a risk, but Messi is too expensive this year. I think RVP+Young will score more than Messi+4.5mid, which costs the same. Limbersky is the Plzen defender with the biggest goal threat imo, and Abraham only 4.5 mil def who played 540 mins

RVP + Young may score more than Messi + 4.5, but will RVP (c) + Young outscore Messi (c) + 4.5? I'm not convinced... Captaincy is massive, and going without Messi and Ronaldo is seriously risky when they score goals for fun.

Cabaye. Anderson playing in a team doing well but can't see that much else going for him. Fletcher back from injury now too so rotation risk. Cabaye handy on set-pieces and Newcastle made a surprisingly solid start.

That said, if you don't have any other Man U coverage go Anderson.

Bah, forgot Suarez was a mil more than Dzeko. I think my main concern with your team was that you're very dependent on Utd and City success. At the moment that's a good shout but as this is your WC personally i'd prefer a better spread long term.

I'd squeeze him in by downgrading Young (maybe Mata?) as you already have Rooney. Overall though i'd say that's an excellent team so you're probs best ignoring me and banking on short term Utd and City points.

Yeah, in general PP have the worst odds out of all the sites I use. Totesport is pretty good when it comes to goalscorer bets, especially 2+. Will probably back Ronaldo and Messi for 2+ goals every weekend there, the odds are always good value.

P.S. No need to change. The more the merrier. 😉

I wildcarded at the start of the transfer period. Those are just the changes I'm thinking of making now that Nasri and Jarvis are crocked.

Could also swap Dyer for Petrov, or keep him and upgrade my defence which is quite weak.

Ah fair enough, should've known you wouldn't be that daft. Still like the fact of having Dyer at 4.5m for the time being. Makes a lot of other things possible.

Yeah, Dyer is good to have. Maybe I'll just do Arteta and Taarabt and leave some money in the bank.

I could actually afford to swap Simpson for Enrique, but I don't know if that's worth doing when I want to play 3-4-3.

    any idea about Cabaye mate?

Cabaye or Jarvis in FFL now?

Cabaye has been playing well for us, one of our best players. He's playing alongside Tiote which gives him license to go forward but I wouldn't necessarily describe him as an attacking midfielder.

Takes a corner and if R Taylor is benched for D Santon, may well take the free kicks too.

Penalties are also up for grabs with Barton gone and Ameobi not always on the pitch ....

Yeah, that's what's most likely to happen.

It could well be the case though that R Taylor goes to RB and Simpson is dropped (I personally don't rate Simpson so that's what I'd do).

Santon will start the vast majority of matches this season (including QPR I would have thought) though and then I'd say it's bit of a toss up for the other.

Cabaye played well for France yesterday in a box-to-box role in Romania, and was one of the few creative figures in Les Bleus' second unimaginative away performances in a row.

He got substituted after 75 minutes for Nasri, who was on the bench as Laurent Blanc wanted to punish him for weak performances and for mouthing off in the press. Given the hand injury that Nasri then picked up, I bet he wished he'd stayed on the bench too.

Who rotates with Given best: Vorm or Dzeko? I am on my WC, this is my team:

    Given, ?
Bosingwa, Kompany, Enrique, De Laet, Simpson
    Dyer, Cabaye, Brunt, Tarrabt, Silva
    Rooney, RVP, ?

? = Vorm and Suarez, Vorm and Dzeko or Begovic and Dzeko

With Vorm and Dzeko I got enough cash to get Suarez provided he doesnt rise more than 10.1 and Dzeko has better fixtures. So leaning that way.

    What combo best?

In a bit of a pickle- choose not to WC due to the fact that Ive been doing allright and didnt need that much change. Log in one week later (no internet in my new flat) only to find that half my team is crocked (Baines, Zamora, Bent, Given) and Malouda & Zamora have dropped 0.4 between them! On top of that, I have malouda who I wanted to ship out this week (for Adam, glad I kept my cool on that one), an underperforming O'Hara and Moses with a rough fixture list to complete my midfield!
Any advice is welcome - full team in link. Feels not worth wildcarding but cant justify my one double transfer I want to make this week; Malouda & Zamora to Arteta & Odemwingie. Also hes still a bit of a doubt!

    Thanks!
