The international break has rendered the previous gameweek a faint and bitter memory of what might have been. Luis Suarez gracefully twisted and rolled in the Bolton box but was ultimately denied against Bolton. David Silva was a mere onlooker as City thrashed five past Spurs at the Lane, whilst Newcastle’s Steven Taylor was but a mere whisker away from coming good on Paddy’s 80/1 for the two goals or more market against Fulham.

Well, maybe more than a few whiskers – a beard perhaps. A ZZ Top beard. Nonetheless, we feel close to pegging Paddy back, and with odds on Edin Dzeko, John Arne Riise, Clint Dempsey, Adel Taarabt and a debutant special for Nicklas Bendtner and Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz, we look well placed to fill our boots this weekend.

Read on to find out how our trip to the bookies went with this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

First market back after two weeks and it’s like being a kid in a candy store, or more appropriately Edin Dzeko in a Spurs penalty box. With 6 goals to his name already and some beauties amongst them, Dzeko is making the most of City’s million pound comedy of providers, and, although Wigan have led a stern back-line so far this season, City’s quality will be too much for them. Paddy is going better than most with 3/1 for him to get the first goal, and with two early bird strikes already, £2 is an easy risk.

Back in his days at Anfield, John Arne Riise could launch a shot from 30-yards and rip fingers off any keeper brave enough to stick a glove in way. A spell at Roma and a few years later, Riise might not be making as many breaks down the wing as he did in his early days, but he has still got plenty about him. Paddy have tempted us with a goal and a clean-sheet special at 12/1, but we fancy a taste of 10/1 for an outside the penalty area screamer for a quid.

We can almost label this week’s flutter as a ‘Fulham Special’ as odds on Clint Dempsey are up next. A trusted entry in to any Fantasy manager’s squad, the American bagged 12 goals last season and is always a threat. If Riise is blasting in a 25-yard missile, we’ll take Dempsey to line up the assist on the left of Martin Jol’s midfield, priced up at 11/4 with Paddy. We’ll take £4 at those odds, and if you fancy him going one better, then Paddy are offering an anytime goal (9/5) and a headed goal (4/1) at decent prices too.

The belle of the championship last season, Adel Taarabt seems out at sea with the big boys so far this season based on Fantasy returns. Take a peek at our Watchlist article this week to read between the lines, as his statistics show, he’s knocking at the door. Still set-piece hogger, even with Joey Barton an eager participant, Taarabt to score form outside the box at 6/1 is on for £1.

In place of our regular team accumulator, and, to welcome a host of new deadline day signings, Paddy have put together a “Debutant Special” featuring Nicklas Bendtner and Bryan Ruiz.

It was rumoured that Bendtner had not been getting games for Arsenal, not because he was out of favour with Arsene Wenger, but because the Dane’s ego had expanded to such a vast size he could no longer board the team bus and journey to away games. This, may well be conjecture, but at least he now has an opportunity to silence his critics. Bendtner makes one half of a 10/1 goalscoring double, alongside our third Fulham player Bryan Ruiz. An import from Dutch league leaders Twente, Ruiz has seen goals in the Eredivisie, but we wait with baited breath as to whether he will turn out to be a Mateja Kezman or a Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Our last £2, making up this week’s tenner, is slipped over the counter with our pen-strokes scrawled on a betting sheet, Paddy, as always, smiles in receipt. Come back next week to find out if Paddy is still beaming or if the Scout makes it back into the black.

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

No Rooney - this may come back to haunt me, but my team looks so much more balanced without him.

    Young/Cahill/Silva/Brunt/Petrov
    RvP/Dzeko/Sturridge

Long-term I want Suarez over Dzeko, but then I have to find another 1.0.

    Good morning...

I am benching Moses, Graham & Dyer today and playing 5 defenders.

Don't usually play 5 at the back but i think there is more chance of getting a better return from my defenders than the 3 on the bench.

pretty confident, yet there is that says Mankini would unleash Tevez on the Champions league and not the league. At best he starts Tevez in this league game and gets an early score and he and sits him to save the legs. Tevez bothered me his last league game he seemed super selfish. That could spell trouble for everyone else with the differential you´re getting.

Dunno about Tevez... Ive a suspicion that City might make him sit on the bench for long periods this season just to prove a point. Still think there is alot of bad feeling there and they are just doing a PR job and papering over the cracks.

I originally had the same thing:

Bos, Baines, J. Enrique, Simpson, De Laet

Problem is, I'd have to bench Bent to do it.

In the end I've panicked, dropped Simpson and reinstated Bent. Now I'm just worrying this will finally be the day Sessegnon does something, and he's benched...

How I wish I'd WC'd at the start of this gameweek. Not so much for the price rises (although they're always nice) but I'm getting more and more unhappy with my team everytime I log in - no Arsenal cover, players dropping in price, injury doubts...

Think I need to get away from the computer for the next three hours to avoid an epic kneejerk WC!

Don't do it. I've been in the same position as you, but I've come to the conclusion Arsenal cover isn't all it's cracked up to be:

      - the only Arsenal player everyone agrees scores points with any regularity is RvP. To get him in would mean big changes up front. Selling a Rooney, or unbalancing the rest of the team. Any other Arsenal player is a bit of a punt, though a decent one in, for example, Walcott

      - this won't be a classic 'we got whipped last game' knee-jerk. There have been two weeks since the Man U vs. Arsenal drubbing. I'm not saying the players will have forgotten about it, but the dynamic will be different given the International break

      - Swansea have shown so far they're not ones to roll over

Arsenal's fixtures are still good after this week. I'm happy to take the risk and maintain a watching brief. Right, essay over! It was either that or join my toddler watching Dora the Explorer, so time well spent!

Worth a quick read - may help peaople decide on Dzeko or not....

After his four-goal display against Tottenham Hotspur, Edin Dzeko is now ranked second on the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, behind only Wayne Rooney.
Dzeko is leading the Barclays Premier League goal scoring chart this season, having hit the back of the net six times already, at an average of one goal every 45minutes 30seconds.
Dzeko has hit the target with 75% of his 16 shots this season but is yet to win a tackle having entered in to four already.
Apart from his four goals against Tottenham Hotspur, Dzeko also covered a total of 11,677m, hitting a top speed of 11.49 metres per second.

    * David Silva has also had a magnificent start to the season and is the 2nd ranked midfielder on the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, behind Ashley Young. The midfielder has scored twice, and hit the target with 64% of his efforts on goal this season. The midfielder has underpinned his undoubted skill with hard work too, and covered 11.9km in the Spurs game.

    * Gareth Barry has been tirelessly doing the hard work for City in midfield, and is the 7th ranked midfielder in the index. Barry's 75% of tackles won, and 7 interceptions has played a big part in City's dominance. Barry clocked 12.8km in the Spurs game.

Thanks for this, but I don't think Dzeko's quality is the concern, more the rotation threat...

      1)no one knows
2)no one knows(have him in my team)
      3)Bosingwa will probably start
4)No one knows, but should start
      5) Gibbs will start, Santos is not ready and Gibbs is fit
      6) Dont understand your last question, but Taarabt is the better bet IMO, because of set pieces.

SWP playing free role and his pre season form are making me lean towards him.
