We turn to the Sky Sports game this Thursday evening and assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 18 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Stoke vs Man CityMarko Arnautovic
Arsenal vs SunderlandMesut Ozil
Man United vs West HamWinston Reid
Southampton vs Aston VillaJames Ward-Prowse
Swansea vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Watford vs NorwichOdion Ighalo
Chelsea vs BournemouthSimon Francis
West Brom vs TottenhamJames McClean
Newcastle vs LiverpoolGeorginio Wijnaldum
Everton vs Crystal PalaceRomelu Lukaku

Two defenders, six midfielders and a couple of forwards earned the awards last time around. Riyad Mahrez is now neck and neck with Leicester team-mate Jamie Vardy with six MotM gongs apiece – essentially, they have collected a combined 12 awards in the first 15 Gameweeks.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo has now collected the MotM award on five occasions, underlining his budget appeal, whilst Marko Arnautovic and Romelu Lukaku are also a couple of favourites here – the duo move up to four MotMs apiece on the back of their goal-getting displays against Man City and Palace.

Gameweek 18 Bonus Points

Three goalkeepers picked up bonus this week – Artur Boruc was the star of the show with seven saves and a clean sheet earning him nine points away to Chelsea. Petr Cech also picked up bonus and now sits alongside Jack Butland with ten points at the summit for goalkeepers.

In defence, ten players grabbed bonus – seven for tackles and four for passes completed. Nacho Monreal was the man to collect both, somewhat atoning for his lack of a clean sheet at home to Sunderland. Cherries full-back Simon Francis is still top of the pile and sits on 16 overall.

In midfield, there were 17 beneficiaries in total: 10 for tackling and nine for passes. Central midfielders Moussa Dembele and Lucas were the two to achieve both and brought home five points apiece, as they also picked up a yellow card each. Cesc Fabregas is the game’s highest bonus earner overall with 26 points so far.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

SanchezArsenal9.716.7%
AgueroMan City107.5%
CazorlaArsenal8.26.1%
ToureMan City8.62.7%
LanziniWest Ham52.3%

All five of the featured players missed the previous Gameweek due to injury. Santi Cazorla look the only long-term worry from this quintet, though – Yaya Toure returned to action for City in midweek, whilst Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero are expected to be available sooner than later. Despite reports suggesting a six-week absence, Manuel Lanzini could even be back by next week, according to Slaven Bilic earlier today.

LukakuEverton8.810.6%
SturridgeLiverpool9.48.7%
OzilArsenal8.45.8%
KaneTottenham9.35.7%

The injuries to Sanchez and Aguero saw Romelu Lukaku, Daniel Sturridge and Harry Kane find their way into many new teams. Whilst Lukaku and Kane have very favourable weekend fixtures, Sturridge is set for yet another stint in the Liverpool treatment room after sustaining a hamstring injury in last week’s surprise loss to Newcastle. Mesut Ozil and Ross Barkley’s form also persuaded many to take the plunge.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options for the next six fixtures. These will be looking at three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
A much better week from my team and a boost in ranking by around 2,000 places thanks largely to my triple Watford clean sheet (21 points), Riyad Mahrez’ hat-trick (22) and then my Monday night captain Romelu Lukaku (24).

My Eden Hazard captain punt failed and I now wish I had opted for Aaron Ramsey although I’ll stick by the former whilst the fixtures are good and reassess when Alexis Sanchez is back in the mix. I also made somewhat of an off the cuff transfer. bringing Ross Barkley in for Andre Ayew on Monday – I did this mainly due to the Swans form and the uncertainty around the manager but I still think Ayew could come good again given the right circumstance. Again I’m pretty happy with my team moving forward and although Yohan Cabaye has been very frustrating to own, I think I’ll keep him for a while yet as he features in my captain plans further down the line. Bringing in Sergio Aguero so early after injury was in hindsight a mistake but hopefully he will be fit sooner rather than later as I don’t fancy using a transfer to take him out and then another to bring him back at some point.

Captain Plan
Romelu Lukaku is my captain for the Toffees away fixture at Carrow Road and hopefully he can continue his fine scoring run and recent penchant for MoTM awards.

I’m then going to ignore Sundays matches and opt for either Eden Hazard or Riyad Mahrez on Monday night. Both play matchday one in Gameweek 20, with Chelsea having the better fixtures but clearly the form of Leicester and Mahrez will be tricky to ignore.

Player of his calibre is more destructive even if he plays 30 minutes, and more effective than 90 minutes of others.

Why does Klopp suggest Sturridge needs to be more resilient?

I dont know what type each of his injuries were?

he finished the game on the weekend, then compained of pain, so was that a knock?

Muscle injuries mostly - the opposite of bumps and knocks. Hamstring this latest one which he picked up during the game.

Best thing is to come off straight away, rather than try and continue- which he actually did playing till the end.

      Tactically Wenger is limited imo.

It was away in Greece , never that easy.

To come away with a 3-0 was quite special

Us real Arsenal supporters have kept faith with Wegner. Tactically limited ??? as opposed to who in the PL.

We have gone 10 years without money , but not any longer . Explain ?

Well done for beating a greek team, and congratulations on qualification as usual.

i thought the Arsenal fans at Emirates were split on Wenger.

Do you really think he is tactically astute? he plays the same against everyone. Do you want me to list the managers that I think are more tactically aware? not sure what that would prove.

Arsenal have loads of money. They have been spending it more so recently. Wenger or whoever buys the players is blind from seeing what is needed i.e. defensive mids, CB, CF

Oh and the injury situation is partly Wengers fault too.

Guess your'e a young lad . So you never witnessed what Wenger brought to PL football. Take it from the icon then SAF. In is own words , credited Wenger with changing the face of British football. Of course I believe he is tactically astute. When we were limited he made a few mistakes , but so be it ,, we accepted this as as a transition time.

I agree though in one area only DM , should have strengthened there . But i still have faith in the man

nope not a MU supporter and not that young.

I give him credit for his early work at Arsenal, changed nutritiion for players etc. v good.

He was also handed an unbelievable defensive unit in the first place and hasnt ever built anything as good as that. But since the invincibles team (well over 10 years ago) he hasnt developed his ideas further, everyone else has caught up and even overtaken in some cases. Wenger is out of date, his ideas are out of date, but he has a lot of respect for what he has done in the past (not recently)

Was he tactically astute when Liverpool dominated you in the first half, or when Chelsea beat you 6-0 or going further back all the other countless times when arsenal are overrun? can he set up his team to get a hard fought point or hold onto a lead, i dont think he can.

Im glad you have faith in the man, i know several arsenal fans who dont.

You forget then what he brought to British football . Ignore SAF if you must ?
As a long time time Arsenal supporter , I remember the George Graham dour fair we were served up . He was a breath of fresh air when he came to Arsenal. With limited funds from 2004/2005 most accepted we would not be much of a threat. Yet we were always entertained . Of course there were moments of embarrasment . But he continued in those trying time to entertain.
Forget those few "supporters" you know , they are not

Arsenal have not had limited funds for a few years now and still same issues with personnel, mental and physical toughness & tactical awareness
