Last weekend football fans nationwide enjoyed controversy and history underlined by the sublime. Red cards and historic scorelines aside, stunning passes and acrobatic goals left Fantasy managers picking up points from all over the park, although some sources perhaps more expected than others. The Fantasy Flutter bore the brunt of the snarling underdog, as the three home games featured in our picks went the way of the visitors, whilst against the odds, Grant Holt held Liverpool to a draw at Anfield.
Among this week’s Flutter for punter perusal are Kyle Walker, Scott Sinclair, Jon Walters and Nicklas Bendtner. No heavy-hitters this time around, not in the individual markets at least. Rafael Van der Vaart, David Silva and Nani grace Paddy’s books in the “Who will score the most goals” special though. Read on to find who we twist or stick on in this week’s Fantasy Flutter.
Kyle Walker seems to be one of Spurs’ busiest players this season, oft featuring in Harry’s Europa eleven and now a mainstay at the back for his league campaign. For Fantasy managers Walker’s been pretty handy – he’s picked up more than five points in four of his last six matches – and seems to be gaining momentum despite a lack of clean sheets. He faces a buoyant QPR after a stuttering win over 9-man Chelsea, but with former Spurs hot potato Adel Taarabt causing a rift in the dressing room, the spurs defence may hold firm despite the injuries. Kyle Walker not to get booked with a Spurs clean sheet at 11/8 opens our wallets for a couple of quid.
Scott Sinclair often carries the attacking threat for Swansea and although he’s had to rely on spot-kicks to convert so far, he clearly has goals in his locker. Swansea have not yet conceded in a home match this season, and picked up five goals to boot, so all of Paddy’s Sinclair markets look tempting. Sinclair avoiding a booking with a Swansea cleanie has already popped up four times this season. However, we’ll take the Sinclair to score from the spot or free-kick at 9/2 for a £1 stake.
Jon Walters looks a hot property for the month ahead, as this week’s Watchlist revealed. The Stoke man has contributed goals, assists, cleanies and bonus points this term to offer fine Fantasy value. He faces a resolute and intimidating Newcastle side this weekend, who have edged confidently into the top four and seem intent on staying there. Goals could be at a premium in this one but we’ll slap a quid on Walters fetching an assist at 11/4.
Not everyone would associated Nicklas Bendtner with the word ‘talent’ – although he certainly would. Even the skeptics must admit that his spell at Sunderland has been nothing but a success story so far. Every game he’s started, bar one, he has contributed with either a goal or an assist. Confidence flows as Villa visit the Stadium of Light then, making Bendtner for an anytime goal at 2/1 a bankable prospect for £2 of our money.
Although all of the above are decent prospects, they perhaps boast potential rather than proven Fantasy credentials. This is certainly not the case for the next bunch in the “Who will score the most” special market.
Rafael Van der Vaart has made a slow start to the season, but with five goals in his last four games he’s definitely in top gear now. City’s magician, David Silva, faces Wolves at home, while Nani will be looking to be instrumental in the United backlash when he visits Goodison. Although all have shown form this season, Van der Vaart looks unstoppable right now, even if Harry cuts his pitch time once again. Our last £4 will ride on the Dutchman at 5/4, as we back the Captain poll winner to come good.
