The concept of a player being fixture proof in Fantasy football is a much discussed topic around these parts. Wayne Rooney put forward a strong case a few gameweeks back, defying United’s tricky opening to the season with a points tally that left all but Sergio Aguero in his wake. Today, Robin Van Persie perhaps presented even stronger evidence that, when a player has talent and form, no opposition can stand in their way.

Van Persie is certainly a force of nature right now. Seven goals in his last three games have propelled him to the top of every Fantasy manager’s most wanted list. The Dutchman, along with Rooney and Aguero, have all enjoyed devastating spells of form this season. Any Fantasy manager who has failed to catch at least one of them, surely finds themselves floundering.

Ironically, it’s Wayne Rooney who has been hugely overshadowed by Van Persie’s recent returns. Today at Goodison, Rooney dropped alarmingly deep, as Alex Ferguson charged Danny Welback and Javier Hernandez to push on. In Fantasy terms, certainly as far as our own ICT Index is concerned, Rooney suffered his least effective 90 minutes of the season – the numbers are there – our Members can see for themselves.

Van Persie meanwhile, made a mockery of the fixture list which told us that a trip to Chelsea would pose him problems; that perhaps he couldn’t maintain his recent form at Stamford Bridge. Friday night’s decision to go with Van Persie over Sergio Aguero in the Scout Picks wasn’t taken lightly. We suspected that the Chelsea defence would be unable to keep the Dutchman at bay. Nobody could have predicted the havoc he would cause, the delicious end product he would deliver.

In three games, Van Persie has returned 36 Fantasy Premier League points – a tally that will surely increase with bonus points on Monday and perhaps the award of an assist for Theo Walcott’s goal. In contrast, Rooney has produced 5 points over the same three gameweeks. When you throw in the captaincy, that’s a big swing and painful reading for those who held Rooney with faith that his undoubted talent and early season form would see him through.

Conveniently, then, that takes us full circle. While Van Persie has done so much today to prove the theory that, with class and form, the opposition is irrelevant, Rooney’s recent returns present strong evidence of the contrary. The matches against Liverpool, City and Everton looked tough for Rooney- five points is certainly proof of that. Another twist in what is rapidly becoming a fascinating Fantasy season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Well i think Suarez will score better than Ade and Aguero next weekend although admittedly you'd probably want to get rid of Suarez the week after as Liverpool's fixtures toughen significantly. Perhaps Suarez > RVP this week may pay off but tbh i'd hate to be without the little Uruguayan for the Swansea game

Well i'm just anti early transfers full stop. Unless you literally have 0.0 left in the bank and he is due to rise i can't see the sense.

Hoping the guy isn't injured midweek, finding out he'll be rested on Friday afternoon, his girlfriend gives birth Friday night etc etc. All just to gain one thousandth of your budget?

Yeah maybe, In this case it's 2x that plus, (albeit with hindsight), Nani benched so VDV to notch 5 pts to justify the transfer this week.Obviously wouldnt have made it if spurs were playing midweek.

I assume you're in the same boat so far as considering man u cover but probably not going to bother with Rooney vs Sunderland now as he was playing so deep?

United are a bit of a problem for me. I've gone with zero coverage for the last 3 weeks now and every GW it seems like a minor miracle i haven't lost ground. Will have to get someone sooner or later. Cleverley perhaps.

Personally, I don't see the value in going for Cleverly - not guaranteed to play and when he does, not often involved.

Think you either have to go Rooney / Nani / (Chicarito?) or go for a defender .. Jones? I'm not convinced Jones covers them in the next 6 weeks is my problem though.

Horrible dilemmas in FPL at the moment.

Suppose ideally Aguero RVP Rooney is the ideal combo of form & fixtures but that ruins the rest of your side. I'd loath to take Aguero or Rooney out for RVP conferring the fixtures but I can't make Adebayor -> RVP work. I don't no what the hell to do.

Same dilemna though I have RVP Aguero Sturridge and want to get Rooney somehow as I have no United coverage. Thinking of doing Mata to Ramsey and getting Hernandez in for Sturridge because there's no way I fit in Rooney unless I get rid of RVP Aguero and I really don't want to do that.

I think u could afford to go without. United will come good FPL point wise but it's just who's gonna be the source of those points. Hernandez & Wellbeck aren't assured of starts. Rooney is expensive for his recent point scoring, Nani has been turd and Young hasn't been gettin the points. I think u can get away with any coverage and then see how the Sunderland game goes.

Okay already planned my transfers, not gonna hesitate.. Sturridge and Kuyt out for RVP and Ramsey
    Giving me an 11 of;
    Given
    Wilkinson (stupid Kompany) Enrique Simpson
    Silva Mata VDV Ramsey
    Suarez (vc) RVP (c) Adebayor
Dunno why everyone is saying Suarez has horrible fixtures after next week..
    Next 6 are;
Chelsea away - Look at the Arsenal game and pretty much every game before that, Chelsea cant defend, will be a high scoring match
City at home - Okay, pretty horrible, but have City kept a cleanie away yet?
Fulham away - Look what Everton did to them last week.
QPR at home - Enough said.
Villa away - Also cant keep a cleanie.
    Wigan away - see QPR.
I know, he can't finish for shit, but if people are getting rid because of fixtures i'd say think twice.
Anyways, was looking through the posts from last night, i dont even remember being online lol!
35 with Adebayor (c) VDV and Wilkinson to come, hows everyone else going?

I like your team but are you planning on going without any United coverage? I have no United players either but looking at their fixtures it could turn out to be a very costly mistake. I'm think Mata/Sturridge out Ramsey/Chico in. I would love to get Rooney but I already have Aguero and RVP. 🙁

Hmm I wouldnt if I were you, I think Sturridge + Mata is better anyway, Ramsey is a good pick and he was excellent yesterday but Chico aint nailed on, coverage for the sake of coverage is never a good idea. Just cant find any way to be honest.
Nani is seemingly a rotation risk and I dont see myself parting with Mata/VDV/Silva anytime soon.
        Young...see above.
Rooney, I doubt he will play centre-mid again but its always a possibility and he just isnt playing good at the moment, RVP and Agueroare better choices.
Who else is there? Might consider Jones in defence but thats it.

    Mixed fortunes:

FPL - transferred out Mata and Suarez for a 4 point hit, not ideal, but brought in VDV and Dzeko, so chuffed that I predicted Dzeko to start and VDV could redeem my tactics. Mignolet, Kompany, Ramsey, Sturridge - bad. Dzeko, Enrique, Sinclair, Silva(c) - good. VDV, Bale and Simpson to play.

IKTS - Looking good, in line for 100+

Metro - 50 point hit for Young, Nasri & Suarez out, VDV, Dempsey & RVP in. Silva(c) not as good as it could have been.

Draft - RVP + Hernandez doing the business, but just 11 points from 6 other players, and only Taarabt, Gutierrez and Simpson to come.

Did you mean to post this here?

That is pretty mixed. Big points shipped out in FPL, could be matched if VDV gets what everyone appears to be predicting tomorrow.
RVP and Dempsey in Metro is already pretty massive before VDV has played, so must've have easily justified the hit
IKTS - I'm not sure how you do it. I can't catch a break there at all. No luck.

I'm planning on using my wildcard during the international break. For next week should I bring in:
    a) RVP (C) for Sturridge + Moses for Silva/Nani = 4 point hit
    b) Ramsey ---> Milner for no hit, and wait a week to bring in a more expensive RVP?
If I bring in RVP I want to do it tonight to cash in on the profit...

With Bramble otherwise engaged, Turner looks set to play.
Whether or not that will equate to points is a different matter, as although Sunderland have been tighter in the early season, they still looked a little lightweight today.

Just done Walters. Risky with this weeks game to play, but due to go up in price. Great fixtures coming up (bol QPR BLA) and on pens. Otherwise, Larsson or Sess look good for the fixtures after United match. I've got Ramsey, who's got great fixtures, but if you only get two points when your team scores five goals, I'm not as hopeful as I was.

Yes, pretty sure of his place alongside Fox in the centre of midfield.
Lambert has rotated often at the start of the season, but kept much the same team in the last few.

Pilkington, Hoolahan and Bennett are supposed to be more attacking, but Johnson seems to get enough chances during the game himself.
