The concept of a player being fixture proof in Fantasy football is a much discussed topic around these parts. Wayne Rooney put forward a strong case a few gameweeks back, defying United’s tricky opening to the season with a points tally that left all but Sergio Aguero in his wake. Today, Robin Van Persie perhaps presented even stronger evidence that, when a player has talent and form, no opposition can stand in their way.

Van Persie is certainly a force of nature right now. Seven goals in his last three games have propelled him to the top of every Fantasy manager’s most wanted list. The Dutchman, along with Rooney and Aguero, have all enjoyed devastating spells of form this season. Any Fantasy manager who has failed to catch at least one of them, surely finds themselves floundering.

Ironically, it’s Wayne Rooney who has been hugely overshadowed by Van Persie’s recent returns. Today at Goodison, Rooney dropped alarmingly deep, as Alex Ferguson charged Danny Welback and Javier Hernandez to push on. In Fantasy terms, certainly as far as our own ICT Index is concerned, Rooney suffered his least effective 90 minutes of the season – the numbers are there – our Members can see for themselves.

Van Persie meanwhile, made a mockery of the fixture list which told us that a trip to Chelsea would pose him problems; that perhaps he couldn’t maintain his recent form at Stamford Bridge. Friday night’s decision to go with Van Persie over Sergio Aguero in the Scout Picks wasn’t taken lightly. We suspected that the Chelsea defence would be unable to keep the Dutchman at bay. Nobody could have predicted the havoc he would cause, the delicious end product he would deliver.

In three games, Van Persie has returned 36 Fantasy Premier League points – a tally that will surely increase with bonus points on Monday and perhaps the award of an assist for Theo Walcott’s goal. In contrast, Rooney has produced 5 points over the same three gameweeks. When you throw in the captaincy, that’s a big swing and painful reading for those who held Rooney with faith that his undoubted talent and early season form would see him through.

Conveniently, then, that takes us full circle. While Van Persie has done so much today to prove the theory that, with class and form, the opposition is irrelevant, Rooney’s recent returns present strong evidence of the contrary. The matches against Liverpool, City and Everton looked tough for Rooney- five points is certainly proof of that. Another twist in what is rapidly becoming a fascinating Fantasy season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Wow that is unfortunate.
Once RVP's assist and Bonus comes, Adebayor will have to get more than 22 to justify the transfers!
I hope for both our sake that happens, Ade (c) FTW
Ive taken a hit to get in RVP, but it depends on the transfer and how many hits youve taken IMO

              Alright, keep thinking that...

After yesterdays display, and some of the changes he made sturridge can get it too. If you're taken off by someone more than once and not trying to be saved for an impending match-up, then you are a rotation risk. They may to think of a formation tweak, at least one more person in the midfield, thy don't maintain enough possession and this seems to be putting more pressure on the defense, and this is with way less forays forward for Bos and Cole too.

    Ruddy (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Enrique Simpson (Kompany Brown)
    VDV Silva Nani Petrov (Moses)
    Suarez Aguero Sturridge
    0.1 in bank

Worried about Sturridge, Bosingwa and Petrov.. keepin faith in the rest.. this is the plan.. not kneejerk this week.. Play all 3 this week and save transfer and next week get Wilkinson/Shawcross and Ramsey for Bos and Petrov, and get bendtner in for sturridge at some point.. sound? no way can i afford RVP

I don't think he's nailed on, he'll drop down to the bench for a couple of games here and there. The good thing is that Moyes has been happy to play him on left OR right, so he only has to knock Osman or Coleman out of the team to get the start. I would say that if decent form is maintained he'll start 5 games out of 6.

    Hey guys,

Long time reader first time poster. Just looking for some advise on my team. Mainly defence as it is really shite and i have not bothered with it for a while, but also some midfield changes as there is some dead wood in there. Current Lineup is:

    GK: Vorm / Krul
    DF: Mertesacker / Taylor R / Ward / Jose Enrique / Bosingwa
MF: Ferguson / Van der Vaart / Silva / Sinclair / Moses
FW: Adebayor / Sturridge / Van Persie

Still have 4.4mil in the bank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

mertsaker ward fregs are the must go only
while mertsaker is the least urgent due to the favorable fixtures u might want to look into sunderland & stoke for mid price defenders (shawx brown and maybe turner are the most reasonable) a swansea defender to always play at home is also good, monk 4.0 and rangel 4.5 are the best. riise is another option for fulham who are always god at home
for fergs u can get sess who is stating to come good, pilkles from norwich is another option or and most importantly ramsey

There are lots of differentials if you're a risk taker. Milner, Johnson, Gerrard, Drenthe and Bendtner have all scored fairly well recently and have (or had) fairly low ownership.

Very few people had Ballotelli until recently.

there are differientials around but the problem is many people are very fickle and follow crazy bandwagons, dump players after one poor performance despite have proven track records and generally play a "this GW strategy" rather than looking more long term. Looking back, i could have easily dumped RVP after the Swansea game in GW4, many probably did - keep the faith.

I believe that the differientials will come from standing by proven performers throughout the season while others chop and change weekly. You cant have the best team on paper every week.

So I did my first ever real knee jerk transfer last night. I did Nani->Ramires and Suarez->RVP. I can't help but feel I'll get punished this week by some sort of divine retribution for being so, well, 'knee jerky'.

i've done it 10 Gameweeks in a row mate, i think my captain choice averages about 3 points per game.
if i trade a player out he does well, regardless of the fixture list. I've had 3 redcards in two gameweeks, and i'm 160 points behind after winning all my leagues the last two years.
I can't make up any ground because everyone has near enough the same team also.

u should play your game regardless of anyone around u week in week out. on GW30 u look around and start playing strategy.
look at arsenal, where they were at the start of the season and now they are 3 pts behind the likes of chelsea and liverpool (and newcastle :p)

Sounds like a difficult situation, but all I can say is that the absolute pros amongst Fantasy Football manages aren't those that have a good year here or there, but those who plug away when the going gets tough, and pull a decent year out of the bag even when things have gone against them.

If your mates are playing casually then there is absolutely no doubt that you will have the chance to gain some points over them come Christmas and January, with the double gameweeks, extra wildcards and rotation which pop up around that period. That's always a great time for the haredcore player, and these players with increasing ownership like RVP, and mainstays like Rooney, will be subject to rotation around that time. Stick at it, and don't throw your toys out of the pram.

what big oak says. this season has been unpredictable, so there is defo chances for differentials. yes there are some consistent point getters out there and most ppl will tend to end up with similar team, this doesnt mean you cant score more week in week out. remember theyll have less ability to react.
I have no man c or man u players and I missed gw1, yet im upper mid table in my league, my aim each week is simply to get more than average points, that way i slowly chip away and creep up.
the season is looooooooong dude dont give up now.

You'll need to plan it well, so look at fixtures and your freebies and stuck to the plan. No time for any kneejerks over the next few weeks. Your immediate concerns are Ferguson and mettersacker, so get them out, then look at ward and Moses. You got a nice lump in the bank, so use it to get komps, shawx and a decent mud priced mid, like larrsson. Then do sturridge.

If they can concede two away against the likes of Bolton and Fulham, then you would expect Liverpool (and Suarez as you point out) to be able to manufacture something. City seems to be more attack orientated this year, and it's working well so far.

Disagree. They've still got the physical presence from the back to the mid to disrupt any team. Remember United only scored through Fletcher. Not sure if Suarez can pull something off but it's all guesstimates at this stage.

Agree Nigel, what the hell is going on here? haha
I see both Pool/City and Pool/Chelsea being relatively high scoring games.
IF he can find his shooting boots with the amount of chances he creates it could be brilliant.
Ken, I know they are still solid at the back BUT they have conceded quite a few away from home. Surely Liverpool will score at least 1...

I'm not disagreeing with the last point. I just feel Man City and Liverpool players will raise their game. In which case Liverpool will either lose or the score will look something like Liverpool-MU which is 1-1. Not great for us Fantasy players. I'm a Chelsea fan btw, and I think our game against Liverpool will probably yield goals cos we're attacking like crazy so we're vulnerable on counters. I'm not a believer of past statistics, just who's likely to perform in the coming weeks. Then again I almost subbed RVP for Rooney this week so what do I know. 😛

I dont know if he's a good choice but Graham (Swansea) has scored in his last 4 games.

That i may, but i've decided to just not bother with FPL for a while as fed up with it!
It is a source of misery!

no mystery mate - take it as seriously or unseriously as you like. Everyone has poor GW's and bad runs but by sticking at it and sticking to a good game plan it will turn around - guaranteed.

Giving up is a cop-out - have some determination!

Only two DF to play next Gw.

    Krul Vorm
Simpson Naylor Brown Kompany De Laet

    A: Replace Kompany >>> Richards or P.Jones?
B: Replace De Laet >>> J.Evans? Is he a good bet?

      He is for this week.
But long term, you are just ending up with another De Laet but in a better team.
I'd do Kompany > Richards if I didnt bring in RVP this week FWIW

Thanks Jack. Another De Laet in a better team strike me.. 🙂

        What's about P.Jones? Don't you rate him?

Yeah I almost got Jones ahead of Kompany the other week.
I just think City are a better defensive outfit and Richards seems to be slotting in the assists every second game.
Both are slight rotation risks, but long-term Richards will most likely play (and score) better.

Right.. I've seen Richards played very high up the pitch and often seen in front of opponents' goal. His style of play could earn more points than Kompany and Jones if playing regularly.

Thanks Colonel Shoe. De Laet is definitely out soon but I couldn't see a good replacement, at that price, for immediate playing in Gw11.. I plan to get Wilkinson on Gw12.. 🙂

You missed a bunch of them last night too.

Always better to WC immediately after deadline and make initial changes then to maximise any price changes.
