The concept of a player being fixture proof in Fantasy football is a much discussed topic around these parts. Wayne Rooney put forward a strong case a few gameweeks back, defying United’s tricky opening to the season with a points tally that left all but Sergio Aguero in his wake. Today, Robin Van Persie perhaps presented even stronger evidence that, when a player has talent and form, no opposition can stand in their way.

Van Persie is certainly a force of nature right now. Seven goals in his last three games have propelled him to the top of every Fantasy manager’s most wanted list. The Dutchman, along with Rooney and Aguero, have all enjoyed devastating spells of form this season. Any Fantasy manager who has failed to catch at least one of them, surely finds themselves floundering.

Ironically, it’s Wayne Rooney who has been hugely overshadowed by Van Persie’s recent returns. Today at Goodison, Rooney dropped alarmingly deep, as Alex Ferguson charged Danny Welback and Javier Hernandez to push on. In Fantasy terms, certainly as far as our own ICT Index is concerned, Rooney suffered his least effective 90 minutes of the season – the numbers are there – our Members can see for themselves.

Van Persie meanwhile, made a mockery of the fixture list which told us that a trip to Chelsea would pose him problems; that perhaps he couldn’t maintain his recent form at Stamford Bridge. Friday night’s decision to go with Van Persie over Sergio Aguero in the Scout Picks wasn’t taken lightly. We suspected that the Chelsea defence would be unable to keep the Dutchman at bay. Nobody could have predicted the havoc he would cause, the delicious end product he would deliver.

In three games, Van Persie has returned 36 Fantasy Premier League points – a tally that will surely increase with bonus points on Monday and perhaps the award of an assist for Theo Walcott’s goal. In contrast, Rooney has produced 5 points over the same three gameweeks. When you throw in the captaincy, that’s a big swing and painful reading for those who held Rooney with faith that his undoubted talent and early season form would see him through.

Conveniently, then, that takes us full circle. While Van Persie has done so much today to prove the theory that, with class and form, the opposition is irrelevant, Rooney’s recent returns present strong evidence of the contrary. The matches against Liverpool, City and Everton looked tough for Rooney- five points is certainly proof of that. Another twist in what is rapidly becoming a fascinating Fantasy season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        che/MCI/ful/QPR/avl

Chelsea may be leaking goals but Suarez isn't lethal enough to captialise on that, City are a tough team, Fulham at home are still a decent defensive unit, QPR have pulled off a few reasonable defensive displays and Villa at home are going to be no push over.

I'd say there's only really 2 possibly high scoring games in that list.

Suarez is definately lethal enough to rip apart Chelseas defence Liverpool/Chelsea will be high scoring, City yeah, Fulham conceded 3 to Everton last week at home, QPR are incredibly inconsistent defensively and Villa cant keep a cleanie to save their lives.

i agree with Grimmaldi, arsenal's matches are a lot easier and liverpool are not scoring much anyway...theyre too inconsistent and norwich at home is proof of that...had to get rvp before the price rises cuz i wont be able to afford him later hes already 0.1 up and i think hell rise again once or maybe twice

Im not arguing with you, and I think it was a good transfer, Arsenal have better fixtures than almost any other team for the next 6.
I was just saying that Liverpool's fixtures aren't as tough as everyone is saying.

I suppose there is alot of validity in what you're saying, he's against alot of teams with inconsistent or simply poor defences considering recent results. I think I'm partially trying to justify my intended transfer after SWA.

I'll have to fall back on telling myself that others have better fixtures and Suarez is straight up frustrating as far as players go.

Until there's a sign that he's a rotation risk he just isn't. I would say he's just as safe as Torres, Torres played poorly over this weekend yet there is little to no doubt that he's a rotation risk.

If I had Sturridge I'd keep him for the Blackburn game, Chelsea should destroy them.

Apparently in his post match interview he was saying how the goals conceded weren't much of a problem? He instead concentrated on missed goal-scoring opportunities, it seems like AVB's intentions is outscore the opponents rather than defend in a reasonable manner.

Have to say I was all set to sell Sturridge and get Bendy after week 11 but on reflection I think selling Sturridge at his price is madness.

I already have RVP and Ade and Sturridge is the perfect 3rd striker , good price cracking value.

And all this he is in poor form is a red herring.

Was taken off early v QPR due to red cards

      Scored v Everton in CC

Scored an off side goal yesterday

So for me all this he is out of form is just an easy excuse to sell him because there is no substance to it.

The only way i will sell him is if its clear he has fallen out ofavour wirh AVB.

There are better options out there.
There is the likes of Adebayor/Suarez instead of Hernandez who is a rotation risk.
For Young/Nani at the moment Silva/Mata/VDV are in much better form, and RVP/Aguero are in better form than Rooney, although if you can have RVP and Rooney that would be ideal, otherwise I wouldnt bother.

Hernandez is poor value despite his goal yesterday , when you have others starting every week and are cheaper.

        Saurez
        Ade
        Sturridge

        to name 3

Damn they have good fixtures for the next 10-15 gw, I think you need at least some cover.

After playing FF for 4 years, I still dont get what the hype is with coverage, it seems to be an overrated term used by many on here.
If there are better options out there, then there is no need for 'coverage'

I get your point when you say it like that, People looking to have someone from every good team for coverage, that is BS like you said. I have had 0 united players since rooney got injured and I took him out(and I support united), because their fixtures got bad.
Now they have the best fixtures of any team, and they can kick into gear at any time, so it would be stupid not to have at least some cover over that 15 gameweeks or smthng that they have excellent fixtures. To give you an example I was looking for stoke coverage for their next games, also for Tott coverage. In saying that also keeping players who are gonna spend the entire season in my team barring any injuries.

I have VDV, Adebayor, RVP, Silva, Aguero.

I feel one big MAn Utd player is needed for sure. I and afford Rooney with RVP if I downsize a few bits (by selling Aguero obv)

Cos of easy fixtures Nani AND Young will play when fit IMO like before their dip.

Meaning Rooney plays higher I think.

I hope Young keeps dropping in price tbh.

Form changes quickly I remember something like 5 gameweeks back when I got Ramsay and Persie in, people were talking that arsenal are crap and that you should not have any cover, even dough the fixtures were brilliant.

good thing i came on here today.. was all set to kneejerk sturridge/nani etc out, but think i'll keep them for a while now.. gonna save my transfer and do Bosingwa and Petrov to Ramsey + 5.3 defender(prob Wilkinson if he starts tomorrow and next week).. team for this week is
    Ruddy
    Bosingwa Enrique Simpson
    VDV Silva Nani Petrov
    Suarez Aguero Sturridge
    0.1 in bank
    Vorm Moses Brown Kompany

So save transfer right? Moses got an easy fixture too so dont mind playin him incase of other injuries

Will this be better in the long term

Torres + Gerrard + Suarez >>> RVP, Rooney and Sessegnon - 8 point hit

Could do gerrard + suarez/torres >> RVP/Rooney and sessegnon-4 point hit for this week

I need some RVP in my team..

    Given Vorm
Kompany Bosingwa Enrique Simpson De Laet
    Silva VDV Cabaye Walters Dyer
    Rooney Adebayor Sturridge

3.6 in bank. Want to keep Rooney so looking at a -4.

    Options are:

    1 - Bosingwa + Ade ---> Shawcross/Walker/5.8 defender and RVP
    2 - Bosingwa + Sturridge ---> Wilkinson and RVP

Surely it is madness to get rid of sturridge before Blackburn? 1 or 2?

As soon as you bring in Wilkinson he'll be dropped again - don't do it
I'd go for the consistency of Shawcross (and the fact that he's due a goal)

Anyway, you already have VDV, A is the way to go I reckon

2 mil in the bank and wondering what to do about

Rooney / Adebayor / Agbonlahor FWD situation....

could take an 8 point hit to get: Aguero / Van Persie / Wickham

Would it be worth it considering the returns of citeh and RVP?

With the fixtures Rooney has I wouldnt change him. I'd probably keep Ade too but if you decide to change him or Agbon I like Gervinho at the moment.

    Evening all...

Having resisted the RVP tide, I can now resist no longer!
    Currently:
    Vorm (Schwarzer)
    Woodgate Bosingwa Enrique (Simpson Bardsley)
    Rodwell Ramsey Silva Bale (Murphy)
    Suarez Sturridge Rooney

Feel I've got to do it now, as a price-rise will mean some major tinkering.
Although was planning to WC after GW11, so perhaps just sit tight?

    Decisions, decisions...
