With the semi-finals now completed we look back on two hotly contested, albeit low scoring, ties as well as ahead to this weekend’s final and third place play off matches.

The Semi-Finals

Argentina v Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Argentinian hit squad came into the tie undefeated in their last eight games and fittingly started their semi final on minus eight points yet again to take their fielded hit count to a staggering -76 for the tournament. While Bosnia, who struggled to get through a tough qualifying pool and World Cup group, unsatisfied with the highest score of the quarter finals took a hit too to start of the match up on -4 points.

The tie itself was a very low scoring affair separated by the odd Costa goal and Sanchez assist as Bosnia did enough to book a place in the final with just 176 points across their five players. Argentina highly homogenised attacks failed in unison as their five Agueros, five Kanes and five Vardys all fired blanks and they could only limp along to 156 points for the gameweek.

Zambia v Cuba

Coming into the game Los Cubanos appeared slight favourites after qualifying for a high scoring group and the knocking out the Djiboutian machine in the last 16 before beating a noisy Belgian ensemble in at the quarters. Zambia on the other hand qualified from their group still playing in first gear as the Argentinian hit machine took the plaudits in group E before they edged past a nervy Jamaican side with the aid of a bench boost in week 26 and the Iceland Icebergs at the quarter final stage.

There was some cage rattling from the Cubans before the game started as Reedy played his triple captain on Riyad Mahrez as he backed the Algerian Maestro to do some long range damage against a Tony Pulis side set to be too concerned with crowding out Jamie Vardy’s penalty box. On the day though it wasn’t enough as Zambia took the lead with a small contingent of Charlie Daniels clean sheets. Throughout the second matchday Cuba pushed and pushed but Zambia held onto it by the slimmest of margins with a goalkeeper bonus point for Jack Butland proving the difference as they went on to win the match 193 -192.

Weekly Awards

Team of the Week – Zambia scoring 193 points.

Player of the Week – JohnnyLeeds of Zambia, who scored 45 points.

Unluckiest Team – Cuba, the second highest score of the round and they played the bench well but just lost to an even better Zambia side.

Worst benching decision – Bosnia & Herzegovina left a potential “Player of the Week” on their bench as Labud Ostojic racked up 47 points and will be screaming at his manager for inclusion this week.

Best Presser – Costa (Belgium) for his parting song as his side crashed out of the quarter finals.

The Finals

Bosnia and Herzegovina face Zambia in the inaugural FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup final while the Argentinian hit squad play Los Cubanos in one last match in a the play-off for 3rd place.

Remember, please keep up the pressers! It was great to see some new posters last week. We are down to the last four teams now so if you are still in, you have a great chance of winning this tournament. Let yourselves be heard and let the passion flow.

The Golden Boot

For this award, we are taking points from the whole campaign, beginning with the continental qualifiers back in week 13 and scoring points on the bench does not count towards your tally. So as it stands this is our top 5 going into the final two games of the tournament.

1)      Zolakumara (BIH) 742 points from 12 appearances

2)      42Towels (ZAM) 739 points from 13 appearances

3)      Lucy (CUB) 705 points from 12 appearances

4)      Giggs Boson (ARG) 682 points from 12 appearances

5)      Roscola (ARG) 652 points from 12 appearances

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each Gameweek, teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each team’s gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for.

As we are now in the knockout rounds, if there is a tie captains’ scores shall determine the winner, unless the captain is on the bench in which case it goes to 2nd on the teamsheet. If it is still a tie, the match shall be taken to standard FPL H2H tiebreakers.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) on Friday March 4th, otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the first kick-off on Saturday at the above spreadsheet.

Please see our Tournament Spreadsheet. All scores, player, fixture and tables information can be found here.

Two Argentians in the top 5 for the Golden Boot 😎 Clearly we had the best team and were just unfortunate in a strange GW 😛

    @Cuba
Get your team ready, we're coming for the 3rd place spot.

Just needed one of those old Silva/Aguero goals and we'd have been through. What a week for them to bomb.

It has to be our song as we prepare for the final

ABBA - The Winner Takes It All Lyrics (edit version) - Radio Cheeseoid.

    We don't want to talk
About the things we've gone through
    Though it's hurting me
    Now it's history
    We've played all our chips
And that's what you've done too
    Nothing more to say
    No more chips to play

    The winner takes it all
    The loser standing small
    Beside the victory
    That's our destiny

    I was in the bar
    Thinking I belonged there
    I figured it made sense
As the build up was getting too tense
    Building me a team
    Thinking I'd be strong there
    But I was a fool
    Playing by the rules

The mods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
    And someone way down here
    Loses someone dear
    The winner takes it all
    The loser has to fall
    It's simple and it's plain
    Why should I complain

But tell me will Aguero miss
    or will he score two
    Does it feel the same
    When you hear our name
    Somewhere deep inside
You must know we made it through
    But what can I say
    Rules must be obeyed

    The mods will decide
    The likes of me abide
    Spectators of the show
    Zambia scoring low
    The game is on again
A corner or an assist send
A big thing or a small
    The winner takes it all

    We don't want to talk
If it makes you feel sad
    And we understand
You've come to shake our hand
    We apologize
If it makes you feel bad
    Seeing you so tense
    No self-confidence
    But you see
    The winner takes it all
    The winner takes it all

So the winner takes it all
And the the loser has to fall
Throw a dice, cold as ice
    Way down here, someone dear
Takes it all, has to fall
    It seems plain to me

I would like to congratulate to all the admins on the excellent organization of this beautiful tournament. Also, i need to congratulate to all you who participated in this championship and wish you all the best in the future. 64 teams started this journey and out of this 64 teams, two teams remained. Zambia, i wish you good and fair fight for the number 1 spot and may the best team win. I m so proud for every of my team member ( which are all from Bosnia by the way) on our fight on this journey. Now, let's go and win this world championship.

Completely agree on the excellence and awsomeness of the organisers of the tournament.

All the best in the final and may the best team win. I've no doubt it will be a close one.

As for the provenance of our team, I live in Zambia, John once did a school project on Zambia, Oscar once flew over Zambia on his way to a holiday in Cape Town, Shyam has a friend whose cousin once met someone from Zambia, Anurag can locate Zambia on a map, and Ben once bought a frying pan made with copper mined in Zambia.....

Team Zambia - you have been unbelievable. We've fought and scraped every step of the way to get to the final. We've not had an easy ride, and we've ridden our luck at times. I've been proud to be part of this team and this group. Tomorrow we stand side by side again. Come on the chipolopolo.

Oscar (statistics fc) - thanks for the vice captain support and all of the statistics. When you took on the reigns and the benching decision, you somehow managed to bench our lowest scoring player in a 1 point victory over Jamaica in the knock outs.

John (johnnyleeds) - your are our best team player. you set the tone from the start with your incredible support despite being on the bench in gameweek 1. you have since taken on the role of PR director for the team to great effect.

Anurag (ak) - despite struggles with connectivity and time difference, you've always been there with sound advice for the rest of the team.

Shyam (42 towels) - you're the man who will win the golden boot. you are our top scorer and mr consistent. Of course, I couldnt let this go without also acknowledging our semi final luck, when you forgot to confirm his team and we ended up with a 1 more victory instead of a 1 point defeat. Even the best need a bit of luck every now and then.

Ben (thebodgehodge) - you were the final person to join the team, but your contribution has been key, starting with his top score in week 1 getting us off to a winning start.

Without each and every one of you, we would not be in the final. Lets finish what we started!!!

I think you guys are all being way to harsh. We, just like Bosnia, are totally within our rights to use our chips. We want to win this thing, it shows we take it seriously. In fact, I think it shows respect towards the event that we deemed it worthy to use our chips. I personally think Bosnia should have done the same.

😀 tbh I'm really surprised Bosnia didn't go for it after all this is Zolakumara's chip history:

        Date Name Status GW ?
        22 Dec 13:00 Wildcard Played GW18
        04 Feb 22:53 Bench Boost Played GW25
        08 Feb 21:06 Wildcard Played GW26
        15 Feb 20:08 Triple Captain Played GW27

If you get the most points you deserve it, totally fair play on using the chips to do it. In the FFS UEFA tournie last year I took a -24 point hit the week I got benched to prepare for the knockout stages.

I'm still rooting against you though 😉

The missed Aguero pen and some last minute goals have cost us some points. Given the chips we've used, we should be posting a big total - but may not be as big as it should be.

Not sure what the state of play is at the minute as our differentials spreadsheet is refusing to play ball.

Completely understand you supporting Bosnia - I'd be going for the underdog as well. But thanks for taking our chips overload as a tribute to the excellence of your tournament and how we'd rather win this at the expense of other competitions this season. The best comp we've been involved in.

      Well at the break Cuba are 30pts ahead and have the following differentials (Argentina have nobody left to come in tomorrow);

De Gea, Dawson, Smalling (or Ward), Firmino.

      Argentina 262 - 286 Cuba

They are a mighty tough side as we found out to our cost. Great to see one of the FIFFSA Executive gain revenge for his former team mates. 🙂

Wow. Just catching up on this.

Brilliant play Zambia truly impressive use of chips.

If we had been in the final I would liek to think we would have tried something similar but martialing 5 people to use TC in a non DGW is extremely good teamwork and captaincy.

      I salute you all

Which move is best with this defence:

      Schmeichel Hennessey
      Azpi VVD Wolly Wimmer Targett

      a) Azpi to Kompany
      b) Targett to up to 5.7 - Bertrand/Sagna/Williams

We get through to the final and most of the rounds we were called "lucky" , "low scorers" etc etc.
Well, we arrive in the final so well prepared and boom..... What a score!!! The fire is burning fiercely tonight. Since the qualifying rounds and right through to the final all 6 of us have communicated on a weekly basis...preparation was key to our success and yes we had some luck on the way but no one can deny our commitment to the tournament. We entered the competition to win.... Mission accomplished Zambia. Still cannot believe it.

Very well played, deserved winners. You sacrificed using your chips in the DGW.

It takes a real team effort to do well in a tournament like this doesn't it? By the sounds of it you've made your own luck and are certainly deserved champions. Once again, well played Zambia.

Well played Zambia!! I loved the high risk, high reward strategy you used in the final. It paid off handsomely 🙂

Will Arsenal WBA be postponed if Arsenal do win the replay against Hull on Tuesday?
