James Tomkins and James Collins both return from injury to appear in Mark Noble’s testimonial. Wahbi Khazri and Lamine Kone are expected to be fit for Sunderland’s clash with the Baggies, Gerard Deulofeu notches for Spain Under 21s, whilst Rafa Benitez hints at more minutes for Newcastle’s forgotten Dutchman.

Hammers duo step up recoveries

James Tomkins and James Collins both took to the field for Mark Noble’s testimonial match after recovering from injuries. Tomkins played the first 45 minutes, whilst Collins was afforded the final nine minutes of the match as the pair look to step up their fitness ahead of a plum home clash with Crystal Palace this weekend. Sam Byram, meanwhile, is still nursing an injury and failed to take part.

The Scout Says: Assuming Tomkins is given the all-clear for the Eagles’ visit, Slaven Bilic could well decide to station him at right-back if Byram misses out again. Such a scenario would allow Michail Antonio – who has played at right wing-back and right-back recently due to the injuries in defence – to reclaim a spot in the Hammers’ attacking quartet. Considering that the former Nottingham Forest wide man has averaged 5.2 points per appearance and comes in considerably cheaper than Dimitri Payet (5.4 compared to 8.3), Antonio’s progress will be keenly observed prior to West Ham’s two doubles in Gameweeks 34 and Gameweek 37, with Manuel Lanzini – at 4.9 – also on our radars in light of his goal at Goodison last time out. It’s worth noting, however, that the London club play Manchester United in their FA Cup quarter-final replay on 13 April, setting up a schedule (four matches in 12 days) that’s ripe for rotation.

Black Cats optimistic on new boys

Having both withdrawn from international duty after picking up injuries in the Tyne-Wear derby, Wahbi Khazri and Lamine Kone are both expected to be back in the frame for Sunderland’s home tie against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The Scout Says: With the Baggies’ visit and a trip to Norwich on the Black Cats’ agenda across the next trio of Gameweeks, the short-term schedule looks crucial for Big Sam’s side. Khazri’s propensity for Fantasy returns was illustrated by a haul of 19 points against Liverpool and United over Gameweek 26-27 before a run of four straight blanks, with Jermain Defoe (two goals in as many matches) offering the in-form route into an attack that’s fired 17 shots on target in their last four matches – only four teams managed more. Although Sunderland don’t enjoy a double in Gameweek 34, their successive home encounters in Gameweek 37 (CHE, EVE) encourage us to keep tabs on their prime assets.

Deulofeu dazzles for Spain

Gerard Deulofeu scored the only goal for Spain’s U21 outfit (a stunning solo effort) as they ran out out 1-0 victors over Norway.

The Scout Says: With regards to Everton’s wing options, Aaron Lennon (four goals and one assist in six starts) and Tom Cleverley are Roberto Martinez’s favoured pairing at present, but the likes of Deulofeu, Kevin Mirallas (back from suspension) and Oumar Niasse (having scored for Senegal over the break) are all pushing for starts. Certainly, the Toffees’ back-to-back doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat & cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) may lend itself to rotation on the flanks, given that their trip to Liverpool in the second double arrives three days before an FA Cup semi-final encounter against either West Ham or Man United. Given his security of starts, Ross Barkley furnishes us with the safest route into the Merseysiders’ midfield, though 11 blanks in his last 12 are hardly reassuring. Although he’s flattered to deceive of late, only two midfielders mustered more shots (12) than Barkley over their previous four outings, which suggests that a slight calibration could trigger strong returns.

Benitez talks up De Jong

Rafa Benitez intimated that Siem de Jong will enjoy more playing time under his stewardship, having been impressed with the Dutchman’s two cameo outings since arriving on Tyneside:

“At this time, you need experience, you need people that can understand the game and they can play the game under pressure. That is the most difficult thing, to play the game under pressure. Some players are good players but struggle under pressure, but he will be important for the rest of the season.”

The Scout Says: Looking at the output of Newcastle’s midfielders since Benitez took up the mantle, Moussa Sissoko (5.6) posted the most impressive statistics, ranking top for attempts (five), top for shots inside the box (five) and second for key passes (four). Conversely, Georginio Wijnaldum managed zero attempts and two key passes, which in part can be attributed to his deployment at the double pivot last time out, with Benitez fielding Ayoze Perez in “the hole” behind a lone striker. Should De Jong (who has managed a single assists in an injury-hit season) oust the latter, he could prove a surprise option ahead of the Magpies’ double Gameweek 34 (SWA & MCI) . Despite the fact that the Toon tallied two goals in their last four fixtures, Benitez’s influence is illustrated by the fact they charted sixth for shots inside the box (18) in their past two match-ups.

Blind hopeful on hamstring

Daley Blind sustained a stiff hamstring while training for Netherlands but expects to be passed fit for Oranje’s trip to Wembley:

“My hamstring is stiff. I didn’t want to take any risks in view of the upcoming games. We have to see how it goes. But I don’t think it’s that bad.”

The Scout Says: Blind’s classification as a midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League starves us of a path into the Red Devils’ rearguard, ensuring that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the only safe selections. At a price of just 5.0, Marcos Rojo – who has been handed four consecutive starts – is beginning to establish himself as a candidate for Man United’s double Gameweek 34 (AVL & CRY), though there’s always the fear that Ashley Young’s imminent return to the fold will increase his rotation risk. Regardless, Louis van Gaal’s men have conceded three fewer goals (seven) than any team at home this term, which makes Man United’s backline a more alluring source of investment than a lacklustre attack that’s mustered just seven goals in their last six outings.

    Robles Elliot
    Sakho Ward Mangala Gabriel £5.7m
    Ozil Silva Bolasie Lennon Lingard
    Aguero Sturridge Lukaku

How's this for a WC team? Very much in initial state at the moment. Who to bring in for the £5.7m? And am I missing any glaring players?

    Thanks!

GKs I like , good value

Like defenders except Gabriel who I do not rate as a good defender . Maybe get Cathcart/Ake and upgrade Gabriel

Lennon and Lingard meh. Silva is misbalancing your team

      Love the strikers!!!!!! 😀

Sturridge is very bad option as they face BOU in GW 34 2 days after Borussia...Lennon is also a big rotation risk....so is Gabriel

Would replace these 3 with Kane/Martial + Bellerin + Payet

        Disagree 🙂

Sturridge is one of the most explosive players around, he has just had a break / good rest and Klopp doesn't seem too worried about his fitness given that he played against Man Utd in the 2nd leg of the Europa and also started 3 days later against Southampton!

I have a BB and WC to use, but Im am not really buying into this hype of stripping of my team for DGWs.
This is the my Potential starting 11for GW 34 without hits
Is it MADNESS to go with this? I know there is only 6/7 DGWs but the other players have good fixtures and I could leave BB and WC for 37. Thoughts appreciated

Have Bellerin, Ozil & Coutinho. Which is the better double up?
    A) Kosc & Firmino
    B) Sakho & Sanchez.

Looks like Redknapp's stint as Jordan's manager is likely to be just 2 games. They're 2-0 down to Jordan so likely to be eliminated.

Would appreciate thoughts on this WC draft. (Note: low TV)

With careful use of transfers and hopefully not too many injuries should allow me to field:

    33: WC = 3 DGWS players;
    34: BB = 13 DGWS;
    37: TC = 10 DGWS without a hit.

    GW34:

    Robles / Elliot

    Rojo / Simpson / Clyne / Ward / Bellerin

    Coutinho / Firmno / Sanchez / Mahrez / Payet

    Aguero / Lukaku / Mitrovic

    Mignolet Robles
    Monreal Bellerin Coleman Janmaat Moreno

    Lukaku Kun Deeney

    0.8 ITB

Will have 3 DGW for Everton then will be bringing in Rojo for Coleman in GW34 for his much preferable double.

You are wasting a GW 35 bench spot by choosing those keepers. Get Elliot/Hart instead of Mignolet imo

Hate Janmaat. Love Coleman punt. Moreno is a risk. Just get Sakho imo

I do not like Coutinho , prefer Firmino. Iwobi over Lingard personally

      Ighalo over Deeney imo.

If I go with Elliott & Robles, surely it's exactly the same as one will have a blank in GW35? I don't quite understand?

I will probably be swapping Moreno for Sakho to be honest.

If Firmino is fit I will probably play him as I've had fine for a couple of months so would be losing a lot of money.

Ighalo / Deeney is a tought one- Deeney swayed me as he is on penalties but I can decide nearer the time.

Get Elliot/Hart instead of Mignolet and do Janmaat > Sakho/Clyne. Hence 1 more GW 35 player and 1 more DGW 37 player . Understood?

Ighalo has awesome stats . Trust me on this. 🙂

Not necessary to go for double Liverpool. You could get an ARS/MCI defender , maybe Mangala but that means 1 less DGW 37 player. So plan your GW 37 team now .

      2) Think there are much better options than Lingard for the DGW
      3) Only 2 DGWS for GW33 perhaps try squeeze in one more

        1) Sakho is a great option.
        2) This is probably true, being a United fan is making me slightly biased.. Do you recommend anyone?
        3) I was thinking this earlier!

        Cheers pal.

yeah, see I would read this table as "players that shoot from set pieces will miss most of the time but will still score more than players who don't have them", hence the top of your list being Siggy, Eriksen and Toure

True, what I'm getting at is that you're using that table to steer people away from Coutinho, who, yes, does take a lot of long shots that miss, but also gets into dangerous positions and has a lot of shots from inside the box (e.g. 31 to Eriksen's 19)

Maybe 0.1 or 0.2 gpg difference, but 1 gpg for one player seems awfully high - this would suggest he should be regarded alongside the likes of Messi and Ronaldo in terms of influence.

Ronaldo does not press high up the pitch. He strolls , so invalid point there.

You also have to look at Bolasie's replacement , i.e , Sako/Lee . Who are mediocre players imho

Well, Arnies fixture is really good, and Siggys got a lot better with all the Stoke defensive/Shaqiri injuries

Debating whether to wildcard this week, or next. Any help much appreciated.

    Plan A:

Wildcard next week, keep this team for this week, have one less FT over the DGW period.

    Forster//
    Bellerin//Fuchs//Ivanovic
    Ozil//Mahrez//Alli//Arnie
    Aguero(c) // Kane // Lukaku

    Plan B:

Wildcard this week. Play this team and have an extra FT plus the ability to TC in GW 33.

    Mignolet
    Monreal//Janmaat//Smalling
    Firmino//Sanchez//Ozil//Payet
    Rashford//Aguero//Lukaku

Basically does team A looks that much better than B so that I need to wait a week to WC?

Team B has poor fixtures compared to Team A(Everton and Liverpool mainly) , so go with Plan A imho

    Good to go?...

Only non-nailed are Lennon and Lanzini but I think both are good punts- rest is pretty templatey I admit but should be enough to climb my ML!....

    3 DGW'ers w33
    14 DGW'ers w34
    10 players in w35 (using 2 FT)

    Elliot-Robles
    Bellerin-Koscielny-Smalling-Sakho-Reid
    Ozil-Payet-Firminho-Lennon-Lanzini
    Kane-Kun-Lukaku

    right, gonna try this again

    a) Clyne, Mahrez/Wiji and Antonio (have Sakho)
    b) Reid, Milner, Townsend
    c) Mangala, Milner/Mahrez.Wiji and Antonio/Townsend

Need at least 2 of the 3 to play in 35

would rather have Clyne than Mangala I think for the extra DGW, but that's pretty much what I have now

If you could only have one, would you have Sanchez or Kane from gw 33 to gw 38?

Sanchez: whm CPL/WBA sun NOR mci AV
Kane: MUN stk WBA che SOU new

Kane the man on form, but those four home games Arsenal have left + the extra game in gw 34 is pushing me towards Sanchez

    Thoughts?
