Years ago, this site was but a small, intimate little affair with a sprightly host and never to be forgotten posters, with names like Necromancer, Puffin Boy and Yer Dad. On those pages, in a dark recess, lived a precious little list entitled the “Suspension Tightrope”, where the poor and damned were outed and their misdemeanors listed for all to see.

As this site has grown and grown, inevitably some of the old favourites were left behind, to be replaced by new shiny and fancy widgets. The “tightrope†found itself discarded – names like Ferguson, Keane, Vieira, Reo-Coker, Palacios, no longer had their name in lights.

Now however, it’s time to roll back the years.

For ScoutCast listeners, this wont be so much of a shock, but for anyone who failed to tune in to Mark and Granville’s dulcet tones earlier in the week, let me introduce myself. I’m Anorak and I’ve been resurrecting the Suspension Tightrope over the last year or so. Now the time has finally come to bring it back to the Fantasy Football Scout homepage. Next week we’ll see the widget return in the sidebar – for now, you’ll have to make do with my first round-up.

Saturday’s update sees no fewer than 22 yellows dished out across the games, with two of those combining into an unfortunate red for our first name on the ban list this weekend – Blackburn’s David Dunn. A pair of yellows means a one-match ban to be served in Gameweek 13. Joining him for a one week soiree on the suspension list, we have QPR’s Joey Barton and the Wolves pair of Stephen Hunt and Jamie O’Hara ; all three picked up their fifth yellows of the season today. That quartet replace Blackburn’s Jason Lowe and Seb Larsson of Sunderland who have both served their Gameweek 12 punishment; the FA charge for Antolin Alcaraz means he remains out of the picture.

Banned players for Gameweek 13: David Dunn, Joey Barton, Antolin Alcaraz, Stephen Hunt, Jamie O’Hara

As a couple of names move off the tightrope, they are immediately replaced. First up, fresh from his action packed afternoon is Ryan Shawcross, he picked up his fourth in the 3-2 defeat to QPR. Joining him with the same card count is Lee Cattermole. Two names who are no stranger to suspension tightrope.

Current Suspension Tightrope : Gabby Agbonlahor, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Brede Hangeland, Steve Sidwell, Gareth Barry, Ryan Shawcross, Glen Whelan, Lee Cattermole, Richard Stearman.

We’ll round things up again following Monday’s game, as Gameweek 12 concludes.

was thinking that, then thinking of downgrading to Shane Long and upgrading a cheap mid to a heavyhitter, Hernandez is a good captain shout for when RVP is injured though

it was a bad game for reference as united were defending most of the time, but hernandez is the most advanced united, just in front of rooney. think of it as a 4-4-1-1

He'll get a yellow. Why? Cos I brought him in, madly for a hit, like I did with Dzeko for Ballotelli this gamesweek. Probably my worst transfer ever. I can'r believe I'm above average at the mo, with VDV and Enrique to play. I had Silva and Woodgate too! Tripe, man.

Last night? Why ever did you do that? Maverick move.

That said, Lampard has a fair chance of sitting on the tightrope for a while. He only managed 1 yellow in the whole of last season, so this run of 4 has been a bit of an anomaly*.

*Possibly an anomaly due to the change in style from AVB though - cue inevitable yellow this afternoon.....

Am contemplating Helgy myself Nomar as in a few GW's time I will have enough to add Lamps to VDV & Silva.

HUGE win for us yesterday up at Stoke. Who would have thought we'd have come out of a run of Chelsea, Spurs, Man UTD and Stoke (away) with 6 pts in the bag?! So proud of our boys. No way we're gonna be in the relegation battle when we can do that!

I thought we'd get something at Stoke especially after how we payed against Man City.

Rewind back a month and lots of people on here were considering this 4 game streak we've just come out of as the hardest stretch of games we'd have this season and were expecting us to get nil points and be in the bottom 3 by the end of it.

Instead, we got 6 points, almost held the champions in waiting and are in the top 10.

Helguson is capable of causing all sorts of problems for Norwich's defence and I can't see him being dropped any time soon.

After going to the Spurs game, I certainly feared for QPR in this run of fixtures. They've definitely proved me wrong and good on them.

Helguson apart, I'd still find it tricky to pick a fantasy player I'd want (I do like the look of Faurlin from a real life perspective though).

          Can't help it, Doosra.

In the form he's in, not having Lamps against Wolves is a very scary thought.

I don't think you need Hart and Kompany. Maybe get Jags which will allow you to upgrade Rodwell to Drenthe or Sess later if you fancy that.

Villa don't have great fixtures but if Agbon is fit he seems to be involved in almost all their goals.

      Slim pickings at 4m.
Tierney unlikely to get you CS points, but keeps popping up with points regardless.
McAuley still 4m for WBA (good fixtures).
Monk for Swansea, though looks like Caulker could be available next week (and he is 3.9m).

Otherwise you are into QPR and Bolton, and I don't fancy their defence for CS (or attacking) points much.

Yeah, turned out pretty well so far! You were a bit unlucky with Howard - was quite a soft pen.

Main concern now is I have no MUN (great medium term fixtures) or CHE (WOL this week which could be a cricket score!) coverage. Any ideas (2 freebies, 1.0m in the bank - team linked)?

      Distant memory now though.

This looks unerringly like exactly what happened to Chelsea and Drogba about this time last season too. United have not been convincing for several weeks now and those easy fixtures haven't exactly returned a bounty of points.

As long as RVP is firing on all cylinders I think Rooney is a luxury that I'm not sure I can afford to keep any longer.

The need to downgrade him for Lamps gets stronger by the minute, which is kind of why I'm hoping Lamps gets booked today. The need for Helguson is starting to grow strong as well.

      Form over fixtures, remember.

I think the league is made up of 500,000 ral players (us)
500k part timers, who forget their teams from time to time etc
A few hundred k who play odd games, weekly scores, best score, worst score, value etc
up to a milion who lost interest
      200k second teams

Trouble is the main teams who lost interest all have Rooney (c) still, so we really need him to do f all for th next few weeks

RVP for me. When Chelsea play well they get goals from everywhere when Arsenal play well they get goals from RVP. Chelsea could win that game 4-0 and Lamps could get 1 goal or an assist, if Arsenal win 4-0 RVP will probably have scored a hat trick.

    Permutation ponderings...

IF Lamps is booked today and IF Nani plays midweek, then what do you think of these transfers for two frees:

    Nani to Larsson
    Wilkinson/MaCauley to Baines

Sturridge to Klasnic after Wolves at home.

The only other expensive defender that tempts me is Jones, but when everyone is available I can only think he will be rested at certain points. I don't mind rotation in attacking positions but when defenders need a minimum of 60 mins then they have to be safe.

Is 31 + Enrique, Mata, Suarez and VDV + 6 points from RVP going to be enough for qualification in the cup?

If Lamps avoids booking today may do:
    Moses > Lamps
    Suarez > Helguson
    Patience.

    Good morning, gentlemen.

    A) Adebayor and Ba

    B) Hernandez and Helguson

The second option looks a little better on paper, but Utd aren't scoring many and QPR have the worst fixtures out of the 4. Also my rival has Adebayor, and Ba has scored 8 in his last 7.

    Any thoughts?

I have Ade and Ba. Ade stopped scoring the moment I brought him in, and I was clever enough to have Ba on the bench when he got his hat-trick against Stoke. I think Ba is worth hanging on to (based on WestHam days and form this season. Ade I'm stuggling to justify keeping - depends on tomorrow but may remove him for Dzeko. Hernandez I think is too pricey for someone who's a rotation risk. Helguson I have not developed an opinion on.

Nah. Easy Saffers win, yet again. But the closest test match series we've had in a while. Phew 😀
