With the Pre-match Preamble making a return last weekend, we’ve started plundering the archives for other old heads to bolster the usual weekly coverage.

While our friends at Paddy Power have long been fuelling our regular Fantasy Flutters, it’s been a while since we turned to their markets to help guide our decision-making. It’s time to bring back the Paddy Says articles then, as we pull apart their latest odds and feed them into our thoughts with the gameweek deadline drawing near.

Clean Sheet Odds

TeamOddsTeamOdds
Man City1.83Liverpool2.5
Tottenham2Chelsea2.7
Everton2.2QPR2.87
Man United2.29Blackburn2.87
Arsenal2.37Wolves3.0

Paddy’s clean sheet odds have both City and Tottenham as clear favourites for shut-outs against Bolton and Norwich respectively. It’s hard to argue, although Fantasy managers will be wary investing in the Spurs defence – Kyle Walker’s potent attacking intent looks tempting, however.

Everton’s odds are of particular interest, ranking above both United at Villa and Arsenal at Wigan – offering further food for thought for those considering the hefty outlay on Leighton Baines. Clearly the bookies aren’t confident in Stoke breaking through the Toffees rearguard, with Everton tipped for back-to-back cleanies.

Team Goals Odds

Team1+ Goals3+ Goals
Man City1.021.72
Tottenham1.032.0
Arsenal1.062.75
Man United1.113.5
Chelsea1.164.33
Blackburn1.164.5
QPR1.25
Wolves1.225.5
Liverpool1.225.5

When it comes to goals, clearly both City and Tottenham are hot favourites for big returns- City’s odds for three or more goals are half that of United at Villa. Clearly, Paddy compound the view that we need coverage of both the City and Spurs attacks going into the gameweek.

Arsenal are also well fancied for decent returns at Wigan but beyond those three, Paddy have less confidence in the likes of United, Chelsea and particularly Liverpool. Indeed, those holding Luis Suarez and considering the likes of Charlie Adam will note that Paddy currently rates both Blackburn and QPR as more likely to score this weekend.

Anytime Goalscorer

ForwardsMidfielders
PlayerOddsPlayerOdds

Dzeko1.44Silva2.1
Balotelli1.53Bale2.4
Van Persie1.57Walcott2.87

Helguson2.87Osman3.6
Bent3.0O’Hara3.75
Bellamy3.1Sessegnon3.75
Bendtner3.1Adam3.75
Ba3.1Wright-Phillips3.75

Not surprisingly, City’s attacking talent dominates the “Anytime Goalscorer” market. Sergio Ageuro, along with fellow strikers Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli all top Paddy’s odds, with Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie their nearest rival.

The Gunners skipper has identical odds to Emmanuel Adebayor (1.57), with Jermain Defoe completing the trio chasing the City strikers. Defoe’s start is greatly depending on the fitness of Rafael Van der Vaart and it’s worth noting that the Dutchman ranks next in Paddy’s odds – at 1.72, he edges out City’s David Silva (2.1) as the most fancied midfielder to score this weekend.

Again, Paddy gives Luis Suarez owners some food for thought – at 2.4 for an anytime goal, Paddy feel that both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez are more likely to notch at Villa Park. Suarez also shares his odds with Louis Saha of Everton, facing up to Stoke, and Gareth Bale, who, at 2.4, is well backed to continue his run of form with a goal against Bolton.

Demba Ba’s odds look significant, particularly given that he has returned Fantasy points in seven of his last eight matches. Paddy don’t rate his chances of notching against the Chelsea defence too highly. With odds of 3.1 on an anytime goal, Ba is rated below the likes of Yakubu against Swansea, Heidar Helguson against West Brom and certainly Louis Saha, who has odds of 2.4 to score against Stoke.

Paddy’s goalscoring midfield selection this weekend is headed up by Van der Vaart and Silva as we’ve mentioned. Bale comes in next at 2.4, with Theo Walcott at 2.87, Tim Cahill at 3, Scott Sinclair and Aaron Ramsey at 3.25, Nani at 3.5 and the Chelsea pairing of Frank Lampard and Juan Mata at 3.6. Interestingly, Paddy appears to favour Blackburn’s Mauro Formica to get in on the action – he’s more fancied that the United and Chelsea midfield, with current odds of 3.1 to score for Rovers against the visiting Swans.

    Evening everybody, team is:

    Vorm - Ruddy
Brown - Caulker - Simpson- Vermaelen - Jose Enrique
    Sessegnon - Silva - VDV - Allen - Drenthe
    VP - Adebayor - Rooney

Got 2 FT and 0 in bank.

    Thinking about
    1) Drenthe -> O'Hara
    2) Rooney & Brown -> Baines & Ba
    3) VDV & Brown -> Baines & O'Hara
    4) Rooney -> Balotelli

1 would be a very conservative choice. 2 would keep be VDV. 3 would keep me Rooney.

What would be your choice? And I don't want Hernandez.

My front 7 this week is:

    Ramsey, Mata, Silva, Bale
    Sturridge, RvP, Adebayor

Not bad I don't think, and I have Drenthe on the bench (who I'm not sure will start).

If Drenthe doesn't start I'm considering transferring him out for Brunt, and then playing him over Sturridge. Does that sound wise or would it be stupid to bench Sturridge when he's playing so well?

Only potential downsides are Drenthe not playing, Walters after a Europa tie (I know he's on the bench), Man City rotation, and VdV potentially not starting.

    Vorm ( Given )
Enrique Walker Jags ( Simpson Turner )
Mata ( VC ) VDV Silva Rodwell ( Dyer )
    Ade RVP (C ) Studge

Am seriously considering Rodwell to O’Hara for a 4 point hit – then can play Dyer next week for Fulham ( H )

Don’t like hits, but think O’Hara is a good punt and differential? My team is far too similar to my opponent in the cup and need a differential or two!

do it - Roddy is hurt right? Dyer is only ever worth 2 or 3 pts and should always come off the bench if anything

    This is my current lineup:

    Vorm
    Santos - Jones - Brown - Clichy
    Bale - Silva - Walters
    RVP - Aguero - Adebayor

I was going to keep this team and save up xfers for week 15 but with Sunderland's sacking and a rotational worry with aguero, im thinking of making these changes:

    Vorm
    Santos - Jones - Clichy
    Bale - Silva - Walters - Walcott
    RVP - Ba - Adebayor

Also had thoughts of Adam instead of Walcott to cover Liverpool's run of form.
What do you guys think? please help! 🙂

My crazy VDV backup plan which I'm almost certainly not going to do:

    - Can't afford Ade without really downgrading Rooney
    - However, if I switch Rooney to Chicha I have enough money for...

    Jermaine Defoe.
Which would cover the Spurs base entirely as when VDV isn't playing, he is. They could even both start with Lennon on the bench. And I'd still have United covered.

Loose Rooney, he's magic start is over and if he comes back to form just get him back. He's gone for now. If you can afford Ade, get him with that money, Defoe will not cover Tottenham's points for you as VDV is just getting back from injury and Bale / Ade are the ones who will score pts. Chicharito is a great pickup as well as he is the one on form in the united shirt
