The Stock Check – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How template is it already getting
    Foster De Gea Valdez
Stones Kingsley Amat Freind McCauley Valencia Azpi Bellerin Everton Soton
Tadic Redmond Coutinho Haz Firmino Capoue Fletcher Marez KDB Oscar Lamella Mane
Kun Vardy Ibra Gray Rondon Soton Negredo

That covers 85% of my mini league and 60% are casuals!
I know I have missed a few but it is earlier than usual IMO.

You have rattled off a fair bit of names there, you've missed some, and there will be new ones next GW.

      What's so template about it?

I know I have missed some as I pointed out. There will be the ins coming and the outs going but my point is the pool was twice the size last year in my mini league. I expect this site to have those names. What is surprising is the casuals in my league to be far more educated than in prior years.

It's very easy to come across this site, and nobody ever speaks about it.

Maybe they are not as casual as you think

Those sticking with Gray: Rondon has form and fixtures and Carroll vs Bournemouth looks too tasty.. Will be swapping to one of them. Made the mistake of sticking with Ritchie far too long last season

Carroll's looking the best pick for me anyway. If he played a full season last time out his goal rate was like a 20 goal season. Bournemouth defence also.. I think it could be huge.

Rondon played almost every game and got 9 goals. I think he will get 12-13 this time out.

Actually I'm keeping. Not sure if you saw the game, but although Burnley looked poor, Gray had a really good chance that he struck very cleanly and confidently. He's going to score goals and be Burnley's main source of goals

Koeman likes him because he is a multi position player. So Miralles, Del Boy and even Barkley will be threatened. All are inconsistent (Including Bolasie) and Ronald will play them off against each other.

Aftet 1 game? Were you expecting him to score in every game and if he doesn't then get someone else? That's 38 goals minimum then. I could've told you before he wasn't that good.

Ha Ha, no, just maybe that Redmond might be better than Tadic and then Long might be too much coverage. I still think he'll do fairly well.

His longshots works sometimes and some other times it 's the reason for the 3 Bonus pts to any Gk who is against him 😀

Have they frozen the transfer activity? Coutinho never went up when he was expected to.

    Foster (Heaton)
    Valencia, Stones (Friend, Pieters, Wasilewski)
    Capoue, Martial, Mahrez, Eriksen, Redmond
    Gray, Vardy, Aguero

Now seems like as good a time as any to play AOA? Don't fancy getting stung benching Capoue (CHE) again, and Friend (sun), Pieters (MCI) don't have the easiest clean sheet prospects either. What do you think?

    1. FPL Hitman

I think that it's an almost useless chip and one that got me 0 points last year, but I don't think you need to use it this week at least. I'd hold on to it.

Nah, bench Capoue for Friend imo.

I'd try to use the AOA after the bench boost. You'll likely have a stronger 5th mid.

Clearly I spoke to soon with my... "No transfer in GW1" comment.

Thought it was to good to be true.

    So Ayew crocked.

    Replacement?

Siggy for one game (HUL), then see how Barkley goes then switch to him in GW3?

Any thoughts on this, or any other obvious options?

Really considering Siggy, another player in pens, attacking, probably more in the points this year as Ayew has left.

Also considering Lamela or Coutinho as Ayew replacement.

Good point. Dont see them right now, or any place in the interface where they might bring it in once a transfer's done.

I guess you could combine the data in Transfer History, with the player's GW history (Info section, shows their price in that GW), and manually figure out the difference.

            1) More time spent on site = more money.
            2) Casuals didnt probably use that info, so they're making it tougher
            3) New site designers

The data tab display included price paid, current price and sale price. It was useful for working out whether you would lose or gain 0.1 with a price change. Without it, FPL managers will either need a very good memory or take a screen shot at the moment they buy a player and file it away for future reference.

As soon as the first player reaches a price drop or price rise threshold. We don't know when that will be and the price change prediction sites can only estimate based on what worked in previous years. Unless they have changed the system dramatically, we should start seeing some movement in the next day or two.

    Ramble.

    - Andre Gray. I really liked what i saw of him. Do not sell. Fixtures are an issue but you knew that anyway.

    - Ibra. Get him.

    - Firmino. Hold.

    - Gaston could be the best underpriced mid imo. Has the fixtures.

    - Delf. Hold. Looked like he could get a haul. Dangerous with fixtures.

Home debut...You don't become a god by not scoring a hat on your home debut. I see big things for this man on Friday.

Really hate that they are playing on a Friday though 🙁

Who Gaston? Sturridge should walk back in. Gaston got some good fpl history for a guy at 5.5.

Might actually hold for 1 more week. Guys like Sanchez & Vardy cannot be assessed after 1 performance. They played well in the game before this.

Coutinho is not a good move, he does this every year, sucks people in with a haul or two then follows it with a string of blanks.

    a) Capoue + Carroll
    or
    b) Noble + Deeney?

If only to pick one, who's more essential? Ibra or Hazard?

Based on only one game for each, I'd say Hazard... It could change though, but Haz with pens (Ibra probably doesn't have pens, right?) and the way he played yesterday it has to be him...

Fair enough, Haz almost links up the attack for the team

I'd try and fit both in, Hazard, Ibra and Aguero could be the strong captain options this season.

The one you go without will hurt you more often than not.

Sure, I have Haz & Aguero at the moment, but I'm looking into Kane --> Ibra soon... Want to see at least one more game though...

Everton midfield is bit of a rotation/selection nightmare ... Deulofeu was greeted as the 'second coming' on here over the last week but game time looks tricky?

On Saturday all the subs cut across the mids and with Bolaise and Lukaku to come in not sure Deulofeu will be a nailed starter ?

    Gueye
    Barry for Cleverley at 85
    Barkley
    Deulofeu for Kone 68
    Miralles for Lennon 76

As soon as he doesn't start, sell him.

Looks a nightmare but the fixtures means a lot will still risk it.

Now lets prep for next week.

    How we looking?

    Valdes
    Shaw Stones Williams
    Hazard Mahrez Mirallas Redmond
    Aguero Ibrahimovic Negredo

    (Jakupovic, Amat, Evans, Capoue)

      Routledge

Routledge - Gylfi to start, maybe Baston too along side Llorente. Swans mids (and Barrow - no idea why he is classed as a Forward) a rotation nightmare

Tough call, both Man U & Hull defenses looked well organised.
Routledge probably, as Redmond is playing oop.

Guys do we expect Vardy to drop in price? And if so when?

    1. Hotdogs for Tea

No, not this week imv. His ownership is so high that it takes a lot of transfers to shift him, not just the FFS knee jerk factor

Go without Zlatan for another week or get him in for a hit? (Was initially going to swap Vardy and Alli for Ibra + Lamela but servers crashed)

    Foster Jakupovic
    Valencia Stones Evans Friend Amat
    Haz Firmino Alli Redmond Capoue
    Aguero Vardy Gray

    1FT, 1.0 banked.

    Open to suggestions. Cheers

      Save FT.
      Reckon Ibra + Lamela < Alli + Vardy + 4 in GW2.

I have exactly the same front 8 bar Kane not Vardy.... Was thinking I want to go Kane --> Ibra too, but can't do it for free (don't have the monies) so not so sure whether to make it for a hit or not... At least Kane's average position was higher than Ibra's in the first game... But yeah, Ibra's stats overall were better... Just one game though...
